@Stan: can we have "map.bitshares.org" point to that map?

BTW, I am willing to:
 - move the administration to Stan or any other "community manager"
 - export the name/GPS coordinates as a CSV file for public download

Sure.  Perhaps Cass can link to it when he gets the new web site operational...

http://map.bitshares.org/

This is not working for me, I get a blank map :-\

pls check again .. maybe DNS ..

Found the problem, appears to be a Chrome issue..

Does http://map.bitshares.org work for anyone else who uses Chrome
with the "Block third-party cookies and site data" setting enabled?

you can dump the coordinates as json format and it should be possible to use open streetmap with a costum made page .. however adding new members will then require manual work or more coding ... id love to see this linked with public data field of bitshares accounts

is there a way to get open street map into a custom CI layouted map style !? Or an alternative?
Zeemap is great but we don't have any chance to get a custom look etc and deleting ads at bottom.
It seems not kind professonial for some users i begin to think… FB appreciated

maybe we can find some talented coder (pfff -- no need to search for long) .. who can integrate this maybe with BTS login/verification and or forum verification ..
putting a marker and storing coordinates with a name shouldn't be too difficult considering the amount of source code available with openstreetmap already
but let's put that to the end of the to-do-list :)

this would be indeed great…

yup this would be great --- xeroc will contact over skype later on ...

I may not be available over skype today ... gonna be out for the evening ..

but I think a 'frame-redirect' will do for now ..

I love Colorado! I used to live in Colorado Springs! :) Beautiful state and one of the states in the nation with more sense in terms of the green herb. I don't smoke anything I just think it makes more sense to legalize it and tax it.

I'm being silly.  The suggestion being that everyone stating where they are on a map makes things easier for government.  It was meant in jest though as no one is doing things that are illegal.  Just things that government might not like.. but I've derailed this thread. ;)
That's why people should not pin point their house but their city ..

but I agree ..
at least over here, things that are not forbidden cannot be illegal .. IMHO .. as long as BTC is legal .. so should be BTSX ..

Organized crime is who you have to worry about. Government already knows where everyone is.

Hey friends,

i just found a nice page which we could use to collect the (approx) locations of community members.
The features are:

 * Sign-Up Not Required
 * Custom Fields
 * Map Images
 * Multimedia
 * Customizable Icons
 * Color Regions
 * Marker Groups
 * Entry List
 * Moderated Additions
 * Private Mapping
 * GeoSearch
 * Edit Grids

I have not yet extensively tested the platform but I think we can start from there and export all added locations if required.

view only: http://www.zeemaps.com/view?group=1162907&x=-80.400616&y=37.224179&z=6
add you location: https://www.zeemaps.com/map?group=1162907

Note: Please only add your home town and maybe not put the market at your own house :)
