started looking into it more.

it seems that when I plan on registering the delegate i'll have my choice of pay rate.

What's an acceptable, appropriate pay-rate for a delegate wanting to compensate himself a little bit, and burn the rest? I'm guessing 3% since the reset is putting all the current delegates there?

I want to set my pay rate for myself as if I don't plan to do much else as a delegate other than sign blocks and burn bitshares.

Pre hard fork I would suggest 50-80%. Post fork 3% should be fine.  I'm not sure if it's still required but many of us also run seed nodes which adds a bit to the total cost.

I say go for it. What do you have to lose?

There's no reason you shouldn't campaign a delegate. You are a well known and trusted supporter of BTS. The technical bits for the running of a delegate are not very hard at all and there are plenty of folks here that will be glad to help you.

The hard part though isn't running a delegate on a VPS but getting voted in. For about $10-$20/month you can setup a delegate and start advertising it. 3% pay right now yields about $2/month. After the fork 3% will yield about 1.5 BTS/Block or about $70/m at the current price of $0.02USD/BTS.

I love the idea of running a delegate, and I've been thinking about renting a VPN and taking a crack at it for a long time. I can't help but notice there are still a few init delegates signing blocks.

I'm not a programmer, but I should be able to compile the program and run it correctly (maybe with a little help if I hit a snag)

But not being the most knowledgeable, I'm still a little self conscious.

How much should a 3% payrate yield on average right now? Be blunt with me people, should I take a crack at this, or leave it to the experts?
