I agree with all of the above... And this thread is best categorized as a "Meta" topic .  :)

How's this for articulation:

1) almost all of the posts occur in general discussion rather than an appropriate child board.
2) I don't see any mods actively moving threads around to help organize the forum better.

I fully agree it makes no sense to waste a dev's time to manage this forum. But it does take quite a bit of effort or stay on top of this monster. I only occasionally look at the main forum index b/c most activity occurs here in gen disc, but I probably should check it more often.

I agree but I just glanced at first page.  I think top 10 threads were appropriate for general.  THen after that there were some that could be moved.. but I don't really see them as hurting the forum that much because they're already not at the top?  I guess some could go into economics or something, but meh it just isn't clear to me that doing such a thing really makes much of a difference.

So I agree moving threads won't hurt, I just am skeptical there is a problem to be solved.  I think maybe just asking for mods to be more active?

I am not so sure this forum is as bad as people think.  Someone moving threads a bit more actively does most of the work.

Most people who accuse the forum of being in bad shape are never able to articulate what is wrong with it.  It seems like the main issue is just too many posts, but oh well.

Learn how to glance at the frontpage and see what might interest you.  Don't read every thread.  The best ones always have a way at staying at the top and have the most views etc.

I think active mods could reorganize the forum and help maintain it pretty easily.

Other then some of the dev's who are the mod's? Developers have better things to do then move threads to correct sections.

The new forum software is already online, we're just working on synchronizing the old one with the new one so people can keep using this one (some don't like to change). If you want to get a feel for what the new forum will look like and behave, see the following examples (also in the crypto community).

I find the maidsafe forum a bit annoying because you can't click 'back' to go back to the previous page.  They're not bad forums but i don't know if they're a upgrade or just equally good as what we've got already.

Wait until we get a decentralised forum for changes like these :)

How about a two tiered system? Posting is always free as conversation should be free, but you can also pay to pin highlighted content at the top for max 24 hours. 5 or so pinned slots, highest bidder wins. If someone knocks you out of the slots you get paid some back, so you only end up paying for the time you were in one of the slots. Anyone can pay to pin anyone's post too if they think it is noteworthy. Payments are either burned or go towards forum running costs.

Nope.

(Under your system, this post would be free.  But if I typed out all the reasons why it was a bad idea, it would cost me 5 BTS).

As many of you know, this forum is almost impossible to keep up with.  Be it from duplicate threads to posts that are just too damn long...

My proposal is this

-Allow responses/replies up to 200 characters to be free; don't allow back to back posting
-If the response is over 200 characters then charge a BTS fee of 5 bts
-A new thread costs 10 BTS to open
-Threads/Posts that are in incorrect sub-forums can be moved by mods to there correct forums for a 2 BTS Reward
-The remaining collected bts after every 30 day period is burned

I don't know how to run a delegate, but this seems like a job that would be a perfect fit

This would really cut down on the unnecessarily long posts and flame wars that pop up on here and get in the way of the productive threads
