While I'm not sure bitshares has the right formula in entirety to pull this off for mass public consumption (there are problems I have with the "dividend"/"Smart Contract" system here and would prefer something closer to what Ethereum is working on), the DPOS consensus mechanism is great for this because A) It will sell artists (who tend to be more environmentally conscious) on the fact that it's green and B) It will be able to keep up with the pace of what a torrent network will demand on the blockchain due to the scalability and speed offered. In order to achieve what he wants, you need 1. Accountability for who "owns" that file that is being distributed 2. A system of smart contracts integrated into the platform set up to exchange bitcoin and 3. A blockchain that will track who is downloading/streaming said file so that funds can be distributed accordingly. Without these, it cannot happen.

I look forward to the Turing complete scripts. Once that is available, there are all kinds of smart contracts I would like to experiment with such as symmetric micropayment channels.

Can we help him with our Bitshares technology?

Why isn't BitUSD built into a Bittorrent client? That would be brilliant.

What if in order to download you have to pay BitUSD and uploaders recieve BitUSD?
Isnt bt free to use?

I'm on it. I have similar ideas that I'm trying to achieve. The pieces are aligning for me :) Should make for some nice shaking up in this joint.

It sounds like he's heard of Peertracks, and wants to develop a similar model with bittorrent/bitcoin.

While we are at it, I remember reading that BM would sound out Reddit about their crypto. Any news about it?

I don't know if BitShares does give him a specific advantage here (besides all the advantages BitShares has over bitcoin in general), but this is a very cool idea regardless. I can see this opening up huge dark markets.
