I too had this issue, but it was resolved by updating to the newest client on this release page:

https://github.com/BitShares/bitshares/releases/

Some links on this forum, and on Bitshares.org are stale, and point to out of date versions, which was the issue I faced.  Running the newest client allowed for Registering of names/accounts and all features.

Did you ever get it to work?  Mine is at 96d and gaining rather than counting down time.  Frustrating.

This could just be a GUI issue. Try to go to the console and type in 'getinfo', then wait a few mins and type 'getinfo' again. Check if the block number is increasing.

I can take a screenshot but it will not paste or copy here.
I will work on it some more.

I do appreciate your help.

You can paste a screenshot here: http://snag.gy/ and then give us the link here.

Hi ibis48,

I don't know if this is going to be of any help, but check System Preference - Security & Privacy - General - Allow applications downloaded from - Anywhere.
Please ignore if it is not helpful.

Aloha  :)

Can you post more of the error? Take a screenshot if you can't copy it
Do not use this post as information for making any important decisions. The only agreements I ever make are informal and non-binding. Take the same precautions as when dealing with a compromised account, scammer, sockpuppet, etc.

No, I cannot post the entire error message. I will not copy to my clipboard.
Is there a portion that give a clue?

Offline vikram

Can you post the whole error message/code here?

I am a newby, but very old and therefore very stupid.
I am trying to initiate and register a bitshares account.
I have downloaded the latest BitShares  (dmg) release (from GitHub) to my mac and placed it in in applications.
When I go to start it a small window comes up to tell me that it "quit unexpectedly" Have done this repeatedly.
A report comes up with some code that is waaaay beyond my addled brain.
Can someone help?

This may depend on the version of your operating system.  In my experience, versions of OSX 10.6.8 and earlier are not compatible.

I am getting the same error on my iMac. It just quits and sends a long error message.
