Also, I built some karma recently with my submission: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2tje0n/i_wake_up_to_read_my_wallstreet_journal_to_see/

And I'm voting up all of Bitshares articles on r/Bitcoin

I'm here to help Bitshares, I believe we can do it!!!

If you are voting up ALL Bitshares articles and nothing else, you'd better check to see if you have been shadow banned. A lot of us were.

It would be nice to build up Reddit, but our sub is not unique when you look at others. Peercoin and NXT are dead on there, too, but they both have active forums outside of Reddit, as we do also here. Some others, such as Doge, make heavier use of their Reddit sub.

I'd like to create a community BitUSD Pot Jar. donkeypong has already expressed interest in donating and I'm sure other users would donate as well if it means more users on Reddit. Each new Bitshares subscriber get's a percentage of the pot, I say 5 cents is plenty. Once we have over 30,000 users on Bitshares Reddit we look more attractive than our current 760 users.

I don't know how to create a Pot Jar, maybe someone here can help me.

Great point donkeypong: We can improve the odds by tipping the right people!!!

I agree it's worth a try. Maybe not with a big outlay, but once the infrastructure is more friendly for them here, it's low risk with some possibility of reward.

If tipping is your method for this, though, you can improve the odds a great deal by tipping the right people.

well, we can increase to 5 cent tips, that should be enough. I've seen lots of users beg just to get any tip. And they will need to download the wallet in order to use their tip. Which means that step 1 download the wallet is already completed. They might later browse around and decide to play with the wallet.

People who are begging for 5 cent tips are not users who will put value into the system IMO. They won't hurt, but they're not going to help anything.

Viral marketing doesn't require powerful hosts.  As long as they're able to carry and transmit the "virus", they're definitely worth something.

How much is difficult to predict, but you never know when someone begging for 5 cent tips has a massive social network.  How many people who could put value into the system know about Dogecoin vs BitShares?

EDIT: I'm not saying we should drop everything (or anything for that matter) to pursue this, but I'd certainly encourage anyone who wants to do this sort of thing rather than discouraging them.

If all 100 delegates decided to give $100 in tips ($1000 total) to every new Bitshares subscriber at 3 cents per tip BitUSD

guess you mean $10000

oops well my math is off jejeje

It's not just the math though. It's the assumption that a 3 cent tip is at all meaningful. At 3 cents that is just enough to cover registration of the account, which we already have (http://faucet.bitshares.org/).

Better than just throwing money at the problem and hoping it will result in conversions, we need to lower the barriers to entry. This means we need a stable lightweight client that people can quickly start using. We can also make use of reddit/twitter tip bots. Then, I think people would voluntarily start tipping people on these social networks and the tip bot would provide a link to a guide explaining how easy it is to register and use the lightweight client to claim the funds, which would significantly help with user adoption.

I don't follow your figures

$100 x 100 delegates = $10,000
$10,000 / 3 cents tip = 333,333 users

$1,000 = 30,000 new users

If all 100 delegates decided to give $100 $10 in tips ($1000 total) to every new Bitshares subscriber at 3 cents per tip BitUSD

we could have an extra 30,000 users (assuming a 3 cent tip to a unique person was enough to convince them to try BitShares with at least a 90% conversion rate), I'd love to see the community on Bitshares Reddit grow, it's barely even growing, sometimes not doing anything.
