"Abine has confirmed that it has plans to open up the service to other wallet holders in the future. "We want to give users the choice to fund their accounts and payments in a way that is most convenient for them", the CTO concluded. "

It works through Coinbase.  With the recent comment from Coinbase CEO that alts are a distraction, I don't see much of a possibility.

Currently it works *with Coinbase.  No reason it couldn't work with any other bitcoin wallet.

From the article:
"in a similar way to pre-paid gift vouchers. They are created on-the-fly and are loaded with US dollars funded from the user's bitcoin account."

It works without bitcoin as well, so they in no way are reliant on Coinbase for the service.

With a BTC bitUSD bridge theres no reason Abine couldn't use bUSD just as easily.

And why would they say "Abine has confirmed that it has plans to open up the service to other wallet holders in the future."  if they didn't intend to do just that.
