Dual E5-2650 Xeon (Mac Pro 3,1) OS X 10.9.2
mmcminer 12 threads gets me 1.3 hash/min

It will sometimes spike (in the terminal window), but it doesn't get much above this for the value shown on mmcpool.com

Does anyone know if these results are typical?  Also, is there an optima code for my machine? I have 24GB of RAM, and mmcminer uses 1, and I don't see a way to let/tell it to use more

Download YAM for mining. (find it on mmc-square)

I like the idea but I am not sure how to answer that on my end.
I get electricity for free.  The farm my in-laws own has a methane electricity generation plant that basically makes electricity from poop.  I don't have a meter to see what I am pulling from the wall either but once I get a few things done and save up I can get one a find out how much I am pulling.

Please also ask for power usage information (if available) for both idle mining, along with hpm.  See:

You can't stop the signal, Mal. Everything goes somewhere, and I go everywhere.

Don't be sad, it is New Year after all. Anyway, you are better off spending $200 on Radeon than on AWS: in the end you will still have Radeon to play videogames!  And I hope AWS will stop annoying those who need it for real work with ridiculous limits.

Is there a better am3 board you'd recommend?
I have ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3 and my AMD 8 Core FX-8350 4.0 Ghz give 3.3 hpm.

Interesting, that was the board I was going to buy, but decided not to since it has the 760G chipset and everything I read said to get a board with 990 if you want to do any overclocking. I also have a Asrock 980DE3/U3S3 that has a fx-6300 in it, I did try running my fx-8350 on that board but it was very unstable, even at stock clock.

not sure why, but my fx-8350 @ 4.4ghz is only getting 2.8hpm (running ubuntu 13.10)  ???

I got that issue with one of my mining builds too, It's the mainboard. Buy a better mobo!

I'm using this motherboard "msi 990fxa-gd65". Which I not too fond of since it will only boot with a graphics card attached. Is there a better am3 board you'd recommend?

I'm sceptic that Linux can double the hs/min alone...

two blocks from this baby enough?

I trust you, I'm only saying that this (huge) difference can't be only referred to the Os efficiency.
I own a Dual Xeon 5670 and I'm getting about 8/9 hs/min under windows.

Maybe the problem is in the windows client...
