What stops everyone from just referring themselves?

What stops you from signing up as an affiliate with Amazon and buying stuff through your referral link?
It is against the TOS and they know your identity.

Amazon doesn't particularly care. They still make money off the transaction.

Odds are good if someone is going to these lengths.. they are not running much volume.. or they really need the discount.. so consider it a solid for BitShares network to less blessed users. At least thats how I like to think of this.

I really like this tweak.

My concern however is that it will mean nothing to BunkerMining for the 1000s of miners we ar going to bring to bitshares that we will get nothing for because I brought them before 2.0 was launched.

So this tweak is moot actually for the next 3 or so months with no bridging strategy.

Put your projects on hold for 3 months, that's what I'm doing.

Since it's all transactions I don't see the issue with this. Sounds like a good way to get a small discount :). Also, when Amazon starts taking bitAssets this will be a good problem to have :).

Nothing, they have nothing to gain.   It costs a "lifetime" of transaction fees to upgrade to an account qualifying for refer income.

This. Makes. Sense.

Thanks a lot for this.

Only fees above a certain threshold defined by consensus must vest.   This means that in practice only the following fees require vesting:

1. Premium Name Registration
2. Lifetime and Annual Memberships
3. Large Data Transactions
4. Symbol Name Registration

Other fees (transfers, market orders, etc) will be below the threshold and thus vest immediately.
