November 27th Hangout Transcript Summary

bytemaster: You can imagine it's been a relatively slow week on the feature development side of things, but a new release did come out yesterday. I want to thank svk and others for working hard this week to get that out with numerous bug fixes and new features. I'm very excited to see how each week the wallet is getting better. Slow and steady progress will eventually get us to where we want to go.

There's been a lot of discussion this week on the nature of smartcoins on the market rules. I was reading those on the forum, I think I'd like to review some of those today. Just so everyone understands the trade-offs and the parameters associated with things like forced settlement versus not forced settlement and so on and so forth. Especially now that forced settlement is exposed in the user interface. We can asks some of those there.

So there was a bug from last week of a referrer income being off by a factor of 100. Numbers weren't scaled properly in the command line wallet which caused the blockchain to create accounts with the wrong configuration. We've identified a fix for that. I believe Ben was working on it this week, but of course he went home to visit family this week. So I don't know the exact status ...

November 20th Hangout Transcript Summary

BitShares 2.0 Licensing

bytemaster: It's been another exciting week in the realm of BitShares. We've had several first events this week.

The Committee members acted without my involvement and made a decision and got a change to the fees pushed through to the blockchain. I was very happy to see the Community self-organize to review those decisions and publish. It caused it to take effect all without my influence.

That's good for BitShares, that's good for me and overall I was very pleased with that. There were many lessons learned from the process. For one the Committee members need to be a little more transparent, offer a little more time for discussion between making their decision and having it apply. It should probably seek feedback in the form of a proposal prior to actually saying that's what's actually going to happen.

But everyone's got to learn, we've got to start somewhere. We will refine this process, refine the layers of communication. From my perspective I'm just happy that more people experience what it's like to be in my shoes of trying to make decisions quickly, having someone hate you regardless of what you decide. It's nice to spread that around a little bit, it's quite the burden.

But overall I think it's a step in the right direction, it's proving things are decentralized. I don't have the stake necessary, either directly or indirectly to unilaterally push anything through any more. Voting for both Witnesses and Committee members has aggregated to totals of several hundred million BitShares, which is beyond what I have direct influence over. So I no longer have 51%, so from here on out it is going to require community consensus gathering and effort from people like the proxy voters.

Other things this week, we've come up with a process for doing Worker Proposals on Github. We have a special tag on various issues that ...
