If Ethereum implements POS by next summer 2017, does that mean that they are effectively ~2 years behind Graphene?  I know it's probably more complicated than that, but I'm just trying to get the 20,000 foot view. 

And will this make Eth technologically competitive with Graphene?

Its actually worse. They are coming up with a new POS technology that is complicated, complex and unproven.
i dont even see how they will be able to reduce confirmation times sub 5 sec, but i am curious to see how they are doing once implemented
