mac version 0.2.1 >> I can't seem to find out what version I am running. The console doesn't have a clear command for this and there is no "About BitSharesX" option under the program's menu bar (which is standard for mac programs).

overall client looks great. I am confused about the "Daily Income, Daily Expenses, and Daily Burn stats... are those network stats?

I'm updating to 0.3.0 right now and I'll post back with any concerns or suggestions. Thanks for the hard work! Beautiful design. Some features are pretty buried and maybe an alternative way of navigating the client (such as menubar at top) would be a nice addition... (or simple/advanced view options).

burnourdough, I could be wrong, but I think I might be having the same issue.  Did you end up with this message?:  https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=5968.msg79809#msg79809

serious bug report:

After changing the log out time to an extremely big number, like 8000000, a window keeps coming out, saying "idle--you will lock out in 60 seconds, then starts counting down", but this window can not be closed. I can only use "alt+f4 to close the wallet. But after reopening it, this window comes again, even after I  re-installed it, this problem still exists,  it means I can not use this wallet anymore. Could someone kindly tell me what I should do?

update: I tried uninstall it again and deleted all the files I can find, then it is OK, but my previous account disappeared, cause I didn't backup the wallet. Luckily, I didn't lost any btsx, because I can re-import pts wallet, but I lost my ID, same ID can not be registered twice :'(

Hello and thank you for the feedback!

Some questions:

1. How do I "fund" my account and register it?
2. How/Why/When do I use the Import Wallet feature under Advanced?

1. Right now, you have to go to the dry run thread (https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=5523.0) and request funds (XTS) from someone already on the network. You then use a very small amount of funds in order to register. This method of registration is temporary, and will be replaced with a free registration for new users in the future. Users will need an address to send these funds to, so don't forget to include your Account Key in the post (don't worry, this is NOT a private key!)

2. From what I understand, you will use the Import Wallet feature to import PTS wallets, and also to import PTS and BTC wallets which have donated to AGS and will receive a stake in future DACs (BitShares X, Music, Lotto, DNS, etc). But as you pointed this out, the feature is currently unfinished

Thanks!

Hehe you're welcome. :) IMO best workaround is to preselect issues and enhancements here and then creating issues in git after discussing in this thread.  My 2 cents

I have also been wondering at what point issues in this thread might be worthy of Github. I think discussing them in this thread like you suggested is a great start. I would not mind adding a lot of these issues to Github, but at the same time I would like to avoid flooding the issue tracker with unrealistic suggestions or bug reports that are not well documented

Got the windows wallet working no problem.  Looks good, as others have mentioned, stands out compared to standard clone wallets.

Also as reported by others, it produces an error when you quit via menu (File, Quit) or clicking window x.

Some questions:

1. How do I "fund" my account and register it?
2. How/Why/When do I use the Import Wallet feature under Advanced?

Also, I assume that import wallet path will have a file selection dialog button at some point so people don't have to type the path.

Glad to see something working.  :D

Two suggestions for consideration.

  • Make it so that users have to save changes to their "Approve" selections. The idea is that it will protect from accidental changes which would be both undesirable and a PITA. The downside is that some may find that having to remember to save changes is a PITA
  • Add the ability to "Deselect All" for the "Approve" selections. The idea is that the list is very long and a user may want to start from scratch with their selections.
Pls consider adding a github issue .. its difficult for the devs to track all threads an feature requests ... thx a lot for it anyway

Thanks xeroc, I'll consider going to GitHub.
These are kind of personal preference issues so I wasn't sure whether the suggestions would be improvements or hindrances.
(I've not used GitHub before so wasn't sure on proper procedure. Are people supposed to just put whatever they want on there, and the devs make the decision? Or am I supposed to gauge the issue first by getting feedback from the community?)
Do others here think I should submit these?
Gotta go to bed now so I'll check this tomorrow and go to GitHub then if that's best.
Sorry to be a newbie pest!

Create a New Wallet...
Password need more than 8 characters.
So it needs at least a 9 characters password to create a new wallet.
Please write it needs "9 or more" characters and not "more than 8".
The written number should be the min password length on first view without thinking about it.

Can we have ability to sort delegates based on their reliability?

- Add 'first time user' screens which guide and prompt new users to register a BitShares account/address immediately
- Hide the Console from 'regular' users
- Password recovery?
- Improve delegate payout notification/visibility
- [Block Explorer] Add ability to "watch" addresses balances.

I have gone through the wallet with my mom (who doesnt know much about bitcoin) to get feedback:

Add 'first time user' screens for the entire GUI

Control of wallets without having to
C:>Users>Admin>AppData>Roaming
Delete wallet from UI and start new wallet. Multiple wallets.
I see Solaaire had to help multiple users (including me) with this hint. I knew what he was talking about when I got the hint but most non bitcoin users wont.
Most users would like to open a temp account and mess around a bit before using it with their money. But then you end up being stuck with your temp account.

Help section should have links to useful information.

The 'create account' button and other green push buttons are too dull. It gives the appearance that they cannot be pressed at this time.

Gravatar links broken. The name Gravatar makes it sound like this is a fake world with fake money and we playing a game.

On the overview: Daily income, daily burn, daily expense. This is confusing? A new user needs to come on and understand the important parts imminently, like with internet banking. Is my money being burnt in the daily burn? Income, is this a pozi scheme like bitcoin?
The accounts page may be better on top.

Hope that was somewhat useful. Exciting times

Windows version using Wine on latest Ubuntu

After startup the widow changed from Overview to Create New Account but i didn't click anywhere and just moved the mouse. After creating the account everything is normal. The lock screen is nice. Cool and clean, only one field on the screen.

It seems that normal words (account names) can be used instead of the long numbers of bitcoin wallets. Thats cool because the long numbers are not so pretty.

there is some problem of windows (OS is win7 64) version
can sync to newest block when first start the client , but cannot go on to syncing while client are opening.
and the client show I have 8 connected node.  I also run a  VM Ubuntu system in same computer , the client in Ubuntu system can sync.

,you can see the latency time show as red color above, is very larger value, so I doubt that maybe it is  overflow.

Latency bug has already been fixed in latest code.   CPU load while syncing is an issue that is mostly there because of our stress testing and wouldn't likely be there in a live network.

The Mac wallet opens fine for me, but crashes unexpectedly.  There doesn't seem to be any way to copy the account key to the clipboard.  Other than that it looks very gorgeous.

So that is what it is,thanks for your explain. Can we see the official BTSX version be released this month?

I would bet 75% chance at this stage.    They are waiting for the issues discovered in Dry Run 8 to be resolved such as Delegate Pay, Connection Issues.   There is also the potential that I may get the order matching implemented this week.   It then becomes an issue of deciding to launch and then fork a month later, wait.   I think DACS Unlimited is aiming for the final day of AGS/PTS to launch... but all of this is subject to conditions on the ground as testing finds things.

Any chance of getting some official info about DACS Unlimited? Unless I missed something they were first mentioned in the last newsletter, and we've had some snippets here and there, but nothing like a proper announcement. They have a website but it's only in Chinese, and the design/content/performance of that site doesn't really inspire confidence.

Who are they?
Why were they chosen to launch BTSX?
Will they focus purely on marketing, or will they also do coding and "maintenance" of the DAC?

I agree there is very little info about this decision. I understand the idea of having someone else release the software to avoid conflicts of interest, but how can we trust this group?

In installed the wallet previously and then just typed randomly on the screen for the password (I assumed I would not need it again as just testing the software).
I have uninstalled the old wallet and re-installed the wallet using the link provided in this thread.
It asks for my password which I cant remember and now I'm stuck out of the programme.
Perhaps a function that will allow multiple accounts on one computer would be good.
Or allow the user to delete a previous user account and open a new one.

I would like to comment on the UI. How do I access the wallet? Thanks

- uninstall current "the old wallet"
- delete file "C:\Users\"you"\AppData\Roaming\BitShares XTS"
- "re-install the wallet using the link provided in this thread"

Fantastic, that makes sense. The wallet looks so very different from the usual wallets I forgot the normal trouble shooting.

The BitsharesX wallet should have a user friendly way of solving the issue I had.

Still getting this on the new release: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=5303.msg71623#msg71623

Haven't been able to run anything on my home computer. Got it to work on amazon EC2.

Might want to look into this eventually, since most people won't want to pay Amazon to even see the wallet. It's been frustrating trying to figure it out, but nothing I do works. Open ports, firewall, restart, router port forwarding, download from different browsers etc... still doesn't want to work.

Sometimes it helps in win7 to use the "run as administrator" option on install and running the program.

With TITAN, no one can see the balance of others, that's quite different from bitcoin.

From the documentation: (https://github.com/BitShares/bitshares_toolkit/wiki/AYNTK_TITAN)

Quote
Are read-only/watch-only keys possible with TITAN?

Yes. The basic support is already in place.

I don't think the first version will have the read-only key, it will be upgraded to support this in later version. My understanding of this quote is that there is no design problem, just to implement it.

For scalability reasons I do not think observer keys are the desired solution.   We have something else in mind.

I don't think the first version will have the read-only key, it will be upgraded to support this in later version. My understanding of this quote is that there is no design problem, just to implement it.

How can I join to the testing? Could I have some XTS to test the sending and reciveing?

I'm exceptionally bad with computers.

I downloaded it, double clicked download, it auto-installed and was going to auto-start

Splash screen came up for a few seconds then a pop up said 'BitSharesXT.exe has stopped working'

Tried starting it again afterwards,  splash screen comes up for few sec then disappears.

Deleted App Data, roaming - BitSharesXTS file as suggested earlier in the thread - but same thing happens, 1st start up says it's stopped working after flash screen and following start ups just show flash screen for a few seconds then disappears.

I'm using windows 7 64 bit

I would like to consider myself technically inclined. I have yet to be able to successfully open the wallet. I've done everything short of wiping my computer completely. If this is on purpose then that is fine. If not then a solution really needs to be found. I have brought this up before but, it was not really looked into.

windows 7 pro 64bit.

Have you tried deleting the BitSharesXT folder located in C:>Users>Admin>AppData>Roaming and starting the client?

Yes. I don't know everything about IT but, I would like to think that I've done everything a person can do with a mouse. This means that I have not modified registry settings, changed items inside of a file, or reformatted my pc.

i am sorry to hear this. i am confident that future releases will work with your rig, but for now I think you may be stuck playing the waiting game.

could you describe your issue further: when you open the client, does a splash screen appear briefly, or does absolutely nothing happen? After you attempt to run the application, can you see any BitShares processes running in the background when you press control+alt+delete ?

The version previous to the current would open up and disappear. The version before that did nothing. The current version shows the initial splash screen for a few seconds. Shortly after I get a windows error "application not responding."

With TITAN, no one can see the balance of others, that's quite different from bitcoin.

From the documentation: (https://github.com/BitShares/bitshares_toolkit/wiki/AYNTK_TITAN)

Block Explorer

Can we have the ability to "get_balance" on ANY address from the UI itself? I don't see why we couldn't include that, we probably have the code that already checks the balances.

Also would be nice to be able to add "watch" addresses balances.

On OSX 10.9.4, it seems to open and function fine (although the only thing I have done was approved delegates), however it closes by itself after about 5 minutes. I don't that I get logged out, but I have to lauch the app again.

It does look good though!

More on command line

If a command line produces an error, instead of showing "Command aborted." Just run help <command> and show how it should be used.

Command line & History:

- would be nice if "UP" and "DOWN" was going through the history. Alternatively make commands in the output a link, so clicking them populates the command line with the text.

Delegates Payout + Bugs

Payouts are not obvious, but I found the wallet_delegate_withdraw_pay command.

In the history I see the payout. However it is not reflected in the balance of the account itself.

That said - payouts and even transfers seem to be lingering sometimes.

Security

This is quite the stretch, but why not - Ability to sign transactions offline. So many accounts are stolen/compromised. I would love to see a wallet that takes this seriously and never does the actual signature. Just make it so that the signature can be manually entered. Perhaps that's already in by using the RPC.

i also hope that creating a centralized place (!) for users to discuss wallet issues might help streamline usability testing and lead to design improvements

How is that different from dry run 8?

Edit: I see - feedback thread sorry need coffee :) but dry run has feedback too. Or is this feature wise?

good point, there is definitely already some great discussion about the wallet clients going on in the Dry Run topics. thanks for reminding me - i need to comb through the latest one and look for wallet related talk!

however, the reason i started this thread is because the Dry Run threads aren't focused discussions. Many people in those threads are asking for test funds, discussing theoretical financial attacks, proposing suggestions for the way delegates work... etc. Great topics for sure, but I have a feeling a lot of that talk is simply white noise for front end users like me who only wanna look at pretty things.

also, after seeing a few fake wallets floating around the web I thought it might be helpful to create yet another clearly marked place to grab the official wallets from

Bugs:

  • Windows 0.1.0: Does not close correctly, needs to be shut down through task manager.
  • Windows 0.1.0: The "Daily Income", "Daily Expenses" and "Daily Burn" panels have values of "inf" and "Nan" on first load, until you get synced maybe?

How do i import my PTS wallet to get my share of XTS?

Offline bytemaster

what should I do if I forget the password… :'(

We have plans to give the user instructions to write down their password.

Alternatively we could give them a way to print out their root private key.

Thanks for the encouraging feedback.  We are very hard on ourselves and I personally consider the UI to be "terrible" in comparison to what I envision in my head.  But your feedback is likely a better metric of what users are actually thinking.

OFFICIAL DOWNLOAD LINKS
REMINDER: This software is still in BETA and is for testing purposes only
Mac OS X: http://bitshares.org/BitSharesXT-0.1.2.dmg
Windows: http://bitshares.org/BitSharesXT-0.1.0.exe

One of the first and most important customer-facing aspects of the BitShares ecosystem is starting to look pretty good - the wallet!

...but it is not quite finished yet. Here's where we can help: as you might know an intuitive user experience is (just one of many) critical aspects of attracting users to a brand, so lets talk ui/ux design, bug fixes, planned updates, security, etc

QUICK NOTE: If you want to report an issue, please be sure to include a [Win] or [Mac] tag, thanks!

The Good
- It looks great, very aesthetically pleasing and far superior to any dime-a-dozen QT wallet
- Well supported, frequent client improvements and bug fixes
- Quick and responsive to inputs

Suggestions
- Add a back button that takes the user to the previous page (similar to a web browser back button)
- Add informational ecosystem links to the Help section - there's a lot to learn about BitShares and it can get overwhelming, directing people to the new wiki may help guide some lost souls
- Add 'first time user' screens which guide and prompt new users to register a BitShares account/address immediately
- Hide the Console from 'regular' users
- An option to scroll through the earlier console commands used with up/down arrow keys
- Password recovery?
- Improve delegate payout notification/visibility
- [Block Explorer] Add ability to "watch" addresses balances.
- [Command Line] If a command line produces an error, instead of showing "Command aborted." Just run help <command> and show how it should be used.
- A button that copies the Account Key to clipboard
- Ability to control private keys through GUI rather than navigating through hidden folders on the OS
- Temp/trial accounts for new users to test waters (perhaps give a very small bit of XTS upon wallet registration for the first couple of weeks to promote conversion)
- New KPIs on the Overview tab that are more user-friendly
- Option to sort delegates by reliability
- Better description for password creation requirements
- Make it so that users have to save changes to their "Approve" selections. The idea is that it will protect from accidental changes which would be both undesirable and a PITA. The downside is that some may find that having to remember to save changes is a PITA
- Add the ability to "Deselect All" for the "Approve" selections. The idea is that the list is very long and a user may want to start from scratch with their selections.

Bugs/Issues
-  Need more descriptive and user friendly error messages
- [Win] Typo: When unlocking a wallet, the client says "Scanning transaltions", it should say "Scanning transactions"
- [Win] Toggle vote up does not appear to function properly
- [Win] The tooltip that is supposed to display when you hover over "Blocks are synced" in the bottom right corner is a bit finicky and requires too much finesse to trigger
- [Win] Right clicking on images (eg the BitShares logo) brings up an incorrect context menu related to the images temselves
- [Win] Names do not appear in the Unregistered tab of the Directory
- [Win] Selected favorites do not appear in the Unregistered tab of the Directory
- [Win] Unable to load multibit wallet
- [Win] Application does not close correctly and needs to be shut down through task manager
- [Win] The "Daily Income", "Daily Expenses", and "Daily Burn" panels have values of "inf" and "Nan" on first load, until you get synced maybe
- [Mac] Client force closes at random
- [Mac] Errors when closing application
- Gravatar?
- Wallet Account Transaction Ledger displays ERROR for market transactions, that is a display bug.
- The volume metric on the price history is hardcoded to 1... coming soon  :)
- Wallet Account Transaction Ledger does not currently display an entry showing your collateral returned to your account after covering a short position.  (A display issue)
