Hello I am new and I want to min[e] bitshare x. Is that possible?

No.

How to mine it?

- Mine LTC
- Sell LTC for BTC on your favorite exchange
- Buy BTSX with BTC on bter.com
- This works with any coin you can mine (not just LTC)
- There may be websites that automate the exchange operations, so it looks like you "mine BTSX with scrypt miner".  But really behind the scenes the website is having you mine something else and using what you actually mined to buy BTSX for you.

BTSX was initially given out to everyone who donated before February towards the development of the software. From now on you can just buy them from someone else.

I bought some more BTSX on Bter.com - trade in all your inflationary Bitcoin there.

Here is the mining pool, not sure when they will actually be ready:

Hello I am new and I want to min bitshare x. Is that possible? How to mine it?

I think someone is setting up a "virtual" miner site that lets you mine Scrypt coins that get automatically sold for BTSX. But you cant directly "mine" Bitshares. It was issued in one go by an IPO, and its supply decreases. This means it is deflationary, not inflationary - which is good.

Edit: welcome to Bitshares :) Enjoy the ride!

npm install actually installs dependencies in a local node_modules folder if run by user .. not sure about the difference if run by root ...

I see. It's possible I ran some earlier step with sudo when I didn't need to which would screw up the permissions. I seem to be the only one that's had to use sudo for npm install so it's likely unique to my degrading Ubuntu install lol.

I just fiddled together the compile instructions to the wiki
http://wiki.bitshares.org/index.php/BuildInstructionsBitSharesX

turns out: compiling is WAY easier under linux than under windows :)

Nice! I found I had to use sudo for the npm install though.  Perhaps that's just with my setup.

I could host a compiled Linux GUI somewhere. I realize that requires a certain amount of trust though. Anyone interested?

How do I run the qt wallet on linux (not a debian based pc...) ?
I followed this issue ...
https://github.com/dacsunlimited/bitsharesx/issues/4
Currently you need to compile it youself. Whats your distribution?

And in case the blockchain needs to be reset will the BTSX balances be reinstated in the new blockchain via some kind of snapshot of the previous blockchain?
Yes.

How safe is it to invest real money into BTSX? I've gone through this topic but haven't found a direct answer to this.
In general this is a difficult question. If most people of those who could ever buy this asset would know an answer to it it wouldn't be a good investment anymore ;)
Most people here think that it is a good investment though.

I was asking purely from the technical perspective and got the answer I needed. Thanks a lot.
Lots of respect for what you guys are doing.
