My opinion is if you have Bitshares Video there should be a way for shareholders to vote up or vote down content. Otherwise who would want to be a delegate for a DAC like this?

I have talked with David at Maidsafe... they will use our DNS system as they don't have a solid solution to that at this time.

wow, great news

While not rely what we wanted, David Irvine does invite our input on the direction they will take, which is positive. I'm not technical enough to help here but i hope some of you guys will take him up on it.

Looks like we better not count our chickens until they've hatched.

Lack of arbitrage is the problem, isn't it. And this 'should' solves it.

BAM!

I remember some very very old posts of your already stating a collaboration with maidsafe ..

found it:
We talked with maidsafe today and will be using our Dns system and they will be consulting with us on the economics of their system.

In the end the mastercoin ipo will be insignificant compared to our partnership potential.

There is still quite a bit of value here for websites with questionable political content.  (and hopefully not nauseating illegal porn)

Decentralized does not have to mean that anything goes. It should mean that no one authority can shut it down. P2P could be designed so a consensus of opinion could shut a site down. Again this would add real value to .p2p and great publicity as it shows  responsibility and a way of tackling the things on the internet that the majority (over 51% of voters) of us believe to be wrong even in a decentralised world.  This decentralised morality would also help maidsafe's image immensely after launch when the media is bound to pick on its potential for unsavory characters.

Toast, have you had a chat with David at maidsafe? He seems open and responsive to suggestion.

DAC Bitshares Video!!!
Sneak announcement!

Why the name? - I would have preferred Bitshares XXX but it will shed a negative light on BTS X, so ...

Other than that here are the basics: 'Bitshares Video  does for video what Bitshares Music is doing for music!'

This includes:

-Any  artist can include his (preferably her) product on the blockchain and everybody can see the video - for free!

-Artists' shares will be offered - Actual sharing will not be available in v.1.0, but the buyers will be given the tools to  incentivize the artist to produce more videos.

-Own in-house exchange? - Definitely! With  bitXXX_USD being the flagship asset. Everything will be priced in it.

-Bare minimum distribution (10% each) for PTS/AGS holders - reason: This way I can keep more shares for myself, of course.

-IPO? - working on it! We (read me) are trying to combine the 'non-calculable' % of the shares each investor gets (Ether style) -very good thing in my view - with the clique like distribution NuShares came up today. In other words we want to grab as much money as we can while, at the same time keeping the max amount of shares for ourselves. Hard dilemma, but we are working on it!

The only significant way we tend to differ from Bitshares Music, is that we do not have enough connection with big labels in the business. That’s why, we will target our platform at the ‘home made videos’ segment... initially. We believe that there is enough unexplored ‘talent’ there, just waiting for the right platform to be unleashed…

Those are the basic ideas. Community input (but only improving the stated goals) will be appreciated.

If decentralized storage of website content is the main goal wouldn't Storj be a more practical way to go?

Maybe, let's see how Storj will solve this, until now they have only nice screenshots or I miss something?

Bitshares Music (and my own DAC Bitshares Video) can store its music/video files in MaidSafe (or other of the same ink).

I've been thinking about this a bit too.  I think you need to wait for maidsafe to have a released product.

Distributed storage means static websites without a backend. (Well not totally static, but they wouldn't save state outside cookies)

There is still quite a bit of value here for websites with questionable political content.  (and hopefully not nauseating illegal porn)

So what platform would a distributed web-server run off ?  Anyone seen any serious projects in this area ?

If you could link up with maidsafe on this the value of .p2p would be really interesting.
*agreed* .. not sure how that linking could work though .. I need to read more about maidsafe

Sorry if this has been discussed already, i've only just started to follow this project.

Of what I have read so far i don't see an incentive to get a .p2p domain. A decentralized dns only solves part of the problem we need decentralised servers and browsers to make it interesting (and give real speculative value to .p2p). There have been 100's of new tld launches all of them with small value compared to .com or country domain extensions.

If you could link up with maidsafe on this the value of .p2p would be really interesting.
