General Discussion / bitOIL?
« on: March 24, 2018, 05:07:53 pm »
How possible would it be to start doing price feeds for this asset? I think it was always in the BitShares plan to have a decentralized oil asset. Some investors would be intrigued by this and would put more BTS into contracts.

Random Discussion / Where's the price discussion?
« on: September 04, 2017, 07:33:17 pm »
Also the discussion about the future of bitshares? I mean.... it'll keep growing. I wanted to talk about the recent fall in price.

Seems like it's partly about the chinese government cracking down on token sales... but BitShares will benefit in the long term from that surely?

I dunno... the ideal world is so far away.

Stakeholder Proposals / 96%? Let's shake up witness voting.
« on: December 23, 2016, 12:10:07 am »
It's bugging me that the participation rate is 96% and not 100%. It looks like bitcube (@cube) has not produced a block in a month but is still a witness. I suggest moving votes away from bitcube and to delegate-1.lafona (@lafona) who has the lowest missed blocks rate of the top standby witnesses.
Particularly @bitcrab @Harvey @newtree (baicai) @Xeldal and @cass

@fav is voting awesomely, as usual. I <3 the cryptofresh voting page: http://cryptofresh.com/ballots

I'm also happy for folks to proxy to me, @kmnk
I have an interested in bitshares staying fantastic and I'll keep my votes up to date with what's working and what's not.

Voting in bitshares is super important and you can participate passively by proxying your vote to someone else. A lot of people choose @xeroc and although he is an superb community member with great knowledge he already has enormous sway (too much even by his own accounting) and doesn't respond quickly to changing workers and witnesses.

Openledger / OpenLedger Market Censoring
« on: November 16, 2016, 01:44:16 am »
The OpenLedger implementation of the BAE (bitshares asset exchange) is hiding "bit." assets. I hope they realize that these assets are a vital part of bitshares' uniqueness and usefulness, a totally decentralized USD-pegged token is huge.

They seem to be doing this to promote their own open.assets. These are not decentralized assets and carry counterparty risk, like any asset on a traditional exchange. Certainly you will always have the blockchain asset, but if openledger folds then open.btc doesn't have value. Just like gox.btc or cryptsy.btc or eventually polo.btc in the future.

Users can still use these markets and and keep these bit.assets in their wallets, but the exchanges must be sought out manually.

I want openledger to show all BTS markets and include the markets with the greatest volume, not just the markets they gain fees from. bit.CNY and bit.USD should be near the top of the BTS markets.

All the best,
Kenmonkey

General Discussion / Obits
« on: October 09, 2016, 01:41:28 pm »
I've been doing some calculations on obits just to see what's cracking and if it's a good investment. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Right now obits are around 1c (usd) each. If the switch to sharedrop goes through, which I think it will (see obits.io/voting) I've done a calculation for how much I'll be getting back on a $100 investment.

OpenLedger has been very transparent with the data from obits and I expect they'll keep doing that. Over the last few months on the 2nd of each month Obits has put between 1 million and 3 million BTS towards a buyback of Obits. (obits.io : buyback history)

I think October will be a good month (with BlockPay and BTC:peerplays as well as obits trading itself generating big fees) so let's assume a 2 million BTS sharedrop on a 7,202,031 Obits supply:

10,000 Obits/7,000,000 Obits (my share of the supply) * 2,000,000 BTS * .005 BTS/USD = $13.84

That's a pretty insane return. In <10 months I'd have over 100% gain. Is this right?

General Discussion / Blockchain explorer
« on: August 17, 2016, 08:33:27 am »
I think to be a legit and sexy crypto we need another block explorer. I know cryptofresh is cool but it's lacking some basic charts like "supply over time" also the volumes are not correct (at least for bitUSD:BTS).
Also, just a good idea to have a backup explorer.
I'd like to be involved in the creation of this blockchain explorer. Who wants to guide me?

Meta / The future of the forum?
« on: May 13, 2016, 05:25:20 am »
Is discussion formally moving over to the bitshares page on steem?

there needs to be a place for beginners in bitshares to go and get information easily such as:

how to get bitshares?
how to use openledger
3-4 different choices of blockchain explorers right now I can only think of 2, cryptofresh and openledger.
how does bitshares work? witnesses? workers? committee members?

I know bitshares is always changing and I think it's changed by far, on the whole, for the better, but we can't let the communication get all tangled up more than it already is. Bitshares.org needs to point people in all the right directions.

Let's discuss where the discussion is taking place. I like steem, seems steemy. Saunas are hot.

I guess if nobody responds that's kinda an answer too.

General Discussion / Supply
« on: May 13, 2016, 02:40:17 am »
Crucial to price is the liquid supply and expected future supply. Where can I get good info and a chart of the supply of bitshares over time? Coinmarketcap lists the current supply but I can't see a chart. Cryptofresh should have all kinds of charts, like blockchain.info.

General Discussion / Where is the suggestion box
« on: April 29, 2016, 06:52:41 am »
Bitshares' organization needs help. From an outsider perspective Bitshares is difficult to approach. We need a portal for the up-to-date, informative, functional humans we actually are.

My suggestion is this: make a site (I suggest openledger.info) look more like blockchain.info or at least blockchain.com.

General Discussion / Smartcoin Premiums
« on: December 13, 2015, 03:57:08 am »
I know this is somehow basic Bitshares economics here but I can't find much information about smartcoins on the forum. Why are people willing to buy USD at a 10% more than the settlement price?

Also, when I click on settle asset there is a 1 billion bts fee... equivalent to this feature being turned off?

ohhh on double checking there is only a 200 bts fee. righto.... when I settle does it use the sell wall or the settlement price?
