General Discussion / Re: Someone Give Me a Reason To Keep Holding BTS

While I think Augur in particular could have a great deal of success, a lot of businesses building on your platform doesn't necessarily translate to increased value...

Did you invest in Augur?

Nope :( There's some REP IOUs trading on Gatecoin though which already values Augur at $20 million on $5 million raised.

I'll probably be buying but will wait for it to properly start trading though, the limited supply could be inflating the price/valuation like the small amount of pre-traded ETH IOU did.

If I remember correctly.  For most of the time IOU ethereum was less than laugh date ethereum...

Like with Augur, I have more faith in the value of the services using the technology than the technology value itself.

Wait your bullish on Augur?  Did you invest?  I am the only one left out?

Over a year too late dan. A lot of good could have been accomplished back in Miami. You should have listened to your dad.

Do tell do tell-- what else was on the table?

So bitshares is no longer a specialized smart contract system.  What is bitshares then?  A faster ethereum?

Not sure how bitshares solves ethereum' problems.  They have solutions in the works with casper.

@Akado - I will never drop the goal and requirement of profitability.  Profit is the key to sustainability which was outlined in my vision.  Everything I do is focused on PROFIT, but I want to make doing the RIGHT THING profitable.  If we make helping others profitable then it will help us help more people.

Can you explain how exactly you plan to make MAS profitable in 2016? As I have said before, I think it will require massive amount of work. I highly suspect that it wont bring any meaningful profits for Bitshares for a long time.

Agreed.

I think the needs to to be a core development on the tools and infrastructure. If the tools and infrastructure is sound then multiple philosophies can be overlaid on Bitshares.  Get the proper roads and brigdes up and nearly any vehicle can use it. If your philosophy can't drive on the road then Bitshares is the wrong platform for you.  Trying to bend Bitshares to fit every philosophy will only cause it to snap.

Yes.  This comment deserves front page status

MAS is one more reason to leave bitshares.  I will leave if MAS is worked on before bond market and orediction markets.  It's highly theoretical and will take more funding and resources than you estimate.  Why?  cause it's a reoccurring theme here when bitshares tries to implement somethjng anew and untested.

only way our bond market is more useful than coinbases is to have prediction markets. period.

The “throughput” that Byrne is referring to is really the ability of the Bitcoin network to process large numbers of transactions and upload them to the blockchain without getting bogged down. As numerous spam attacks—or “stress tests,” depending on your outlook—have proven over the last year, the Bitcoin blockchain is pretty easily gummed up. If this happens, that proof of stock ownership might not take 10 minutes to go through, but hours, or even days. Another chain might not have these issues.

Here's a major player who wants to use Bitcoin as a settlement layer today, and has to look at other alternatives because of the block size cap.
I fear this is rapidly going to become a reoccurring theme...

what the hell you forgot prediction markets.

Me too, but he is not gambling, the risk is low. The 'potential' profits are coming anyway, otherwise this grumpy and greedy man would not send a dollar.

Risk is high. It's hardly certain to make a profit.
