Technical Support / Re: Inconsistent Balances
« on: September 15, 2014, 09:24:50 am »
The balance that displays when I send or receive a transaction (to the right of fees) is different than the balance that displays in the blue banner at the top (next to estimated yield). There is about a 20% difference.

An earlier version of the client had a bug that corrupted some of the meta-data associated with some of your transactions.   Look through your transaction history for transactions where the amount transferred was "0" then use "wallet_scan_transaction TRX_ID true"   to correct it.

I have the same issue, although this did not fix it for me.

I have many "TO UNKNOWN" transactions that remove from my balance. using "wallet_scan_transaction TRX_ID true" doesn't fix.
I presume these are market orders that were placed, canceled, but never returned?

transaction detail:
Code: [Select]
{"type":"short_op_type","data":{"amount":xxxxxxx,"short_index":{"order_price":{"ratio":"0.00303030303030303","quote_asset_id":22,"base_asset_id":0}

Yeah it never resolved for me either. Which balance is the correct one for you? The one in transaction history or the main balance in the upper right?

for me neither of the balances is correct...
xeroc posted this under github https://github.com/BitShares/bitshares_toolkit/issues/769  not yet resolved but devs know...

I don't know how anyone else reads this but they way I read this is that Ripple Labs, Fidor &  City National are each giving presentations during that session.  I'm not sure if it indicates that they are working together but that would be good to know.  Still interesting that Ripple is getting a seat at the table.

https://alliance.nacha.org/sites/alliance.nacha.org/files/files/Meetings%20website%20page/DRAFT%20Preliminary%20%20Agenda%20-%209_4_14.pdf

this document says

Global Strategy Session – New Solutions – Eliminating Friction from Cross- Border Payments
International payments represent a significant business opportunity, but these payments can be difficult to manage. Challenges still exist regarding transparency, time required for funds to clear, tracking payment progress, foreign exchange, etc. Are there innovative solutions to ease the pain? This session will feature executives from Fidor Bank and City National Bank, who will share their thoughts on innovation in this space – and their recent announcements to partner with Ripple Labs. Ripple is an open, decentralized payments protocol that enables anything of value to be traded through a global web. How and why will they use Ripple for cross-border? Session includes discussion of drivers such as real-time.

Funny enough, the follow-up session is called "Federal Reserve Payments Roadmap" by Chicago FED

lets first start the bitEUR and get it liquid .. say a few 100kEUR or so .. before that it does not make any sense to market it towards a bank :-)

oh sure, this is in a somewhat distant future :)

guys hello... not sure where to post this, perhaps have a look if that could be of interest to btsx team? apparently XRP is going up today because there is a speculation that City National Bank of US is playing with Ripple - look at the Golbal Strategy Session page 4

i was just thinking those banks who start rippling first could be the ones who become interested in building first bitUSD/bitEUR bridges into fiat...

Fidor bank should be contacted as well for biteur gateway

sorry now link corrected. agree fidor should be contacted wrt bitEUR. both fidor and city national bank are working with RippleLabs

Edit: ok i do three steps
- back up wallet folder from %appdata/Roaming/BitsharesX%
- then download 0.4.15 from github
- then run...

* the message above password field "There is a new mandatory client update available at bitshares-x.info" reads then strange *

General Discussion / Re: Next bitAsset to go: bitGLD and bitEUR
« on: September 13, 2014, 03:50:18 pm »
bitEUR is important also. then we can trace how bitEUR/bitUSD rate compares to EUR/USD. And some folks from Europe probably prefer bitEUR to bitUSD as a currency. Will be difficult to get market depth at start, as BTSX not trading in EUR terms on exchanges.

bitGLD sounds exciting and probably good marketing tool, but IMHO bridges USD -> bitUSD and EUR -> bitEUR are more important for wider adoption and will be easier to implement worldwide than GLD -> bitGLD...

(wouldn't be EUR/bitEUR market the easiest new product for bitstamp to offer?)

now reading that BM warned here https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=8156.0 that attempts to restore from older back-ups, and market activity in particular, would cause problems at this stage. i must admit that i didn't read through best practices thread early enough due to wrong prioritization of time allocation. so i discovered that appying certain practices which worked fine with other cryptos to BTSX can easily be wrong, and for a non-tech person even more so. as the system crash during trading, and the older wallet backup is used, then unfortunately issues arise...
but still ... theses "issues" do not make you loose funds ... the issues he is basically talking about is "loosing" of memo and recipient information ..
The keys for the exchange/market are still derived deterministically and can always be recovered from the account private key ..
It's just an inconvenience for the user

yeah i know, just feel somewhat embarassed that both myself and user support + devs have to take time and effort to address issues which could have been avoided if I was more aware and attentive. well, this is a learning process for all of us - and learning never ends ;) and in the end the winning platform will likely be the fool-proof one *lol*

Thanks for the tip xeroc !
But most of all thanks for your great efforts and dedication to this community.
I am sure you are one of the reasons that people are involved with the bitshares project right now...

ok .. same issue again then ..

I just heard of BM that there still is a issue in the client ..
but would you anyway post this to the github issue tracker, or shall I do that for you?
https://github.com/BitShares/bitshares_toolkit/issues

Be ensured, that your funds are still on the blockchain and will NOT get lost ..
keys are deterministic .. once the bug is fixed you will be able to accees them again

xeroc thanks you for helping me through this all that learning process! i am not really worrying, as most of my balance showing up ;)
please would you kindly post this for me on github, as i am not so familiar with github yet? and wish you good nite and nice weekend!
