General Discussion / Re: BitShares vs Ethereum

unacceptable uses include using the EVM as a file storage, email or text messaging system, anything to do with graphical interfaces, and applications best suited for cloud computing like genetic algorithms, graph analysis or machine learning.

There would be less of a difference when bitshares eventually implement a compatible EVM.

honestly I am surprised no one on the development team looked into the possibilities last year.  but better late then never.

it will be much easier for bitshares to get fin services users with that bolted on ...

General Discussion / Re: Cost of Creating an Asset?
« on: August 23, 2014, 05:17:40 am »
I went to check this out and it seems that the cost of creating an asset is currently about $5000

How can this be?

Quote
Fees for creating a new asset: 196,589.0304 BTSX

BTS X is not designed for every user under the sun to issue assets, but instead is trying to focus on larger high-value assets.  BitShares ME will be for everyone else.

ah ok

and when is ME slated to come out?

This thread is to keep track of projects that accept the PTS social contract, which allow you to import your PTS to obtain something. Please let me know by reply or pm me, if you found a new project that isn't listed here.

The format is as follows:
Announcement date
Exchange rate
PTS block (you must have confirmed balance at an address you control, when this particular PTS block is mined, to be able to receive anything)
Project links

2014-02-18
1 PTS for 1.3 BTS
block 57,787
Get your BTS wallet here thread

2013-12-10
10 PTS for 1 MMC
block 32,000
MemoryCoin2 bitsharestalk
MemoryCoin2 bitcointalk

this is a very helpful thread, keep it going!

BitShares PTS / Re: Price

besides the awful title, i love this part:

This means that the price of PTS could be about to drop like a bowl of petunias in midair. Or not.

Either way…

Don’t Panic!

yea let's highlight that in bold  :o

the price is actually lower now than it was before the announcement

BitShares PTS / Re: ProtoShares holding ground in the face of the Storm

PTS Rising like the phoenix, 50% rise in just 1 day !

just saw that.  anything new happened??

It was announced that later BTS X chains would be based off of the test BTS chain and thus everyone is rushing to get PTS/AGS before the 28th since most of the market seems to think that BTS is worth a lot as a DAC but other concepts are not.

Personally, I think the market is a bit short-sighted in this regard.

oh sweet i am glad i need holding for 3 months

i can totally sympathize not wanting to waste money on legal over this.   i will still call it protoshares. i have actually heard of protoshare only because i was looking up protoshares. i myself use mock up tools, but i will make sure never use their tool :)

BitShares PTS / Re: Anyone remember these prices?
« on: January 22, 2014, 12:05:31 pm »
We actually didn't dilute PTS holders but gave them a significant increase in value.   PTS use to represent 10% of BTS supply, now it represents 50%.      BTS use to have mining and pay 50% dividends to miners, now it pays 100% dividends to shareholders.  So in effect we doubled the value proposition through this change alone.

Prior to AGS we would have lacked the funding necessary to make PTS truly valuable.  Now we are on a roadmap to really make a difference very rapidly.

weird, i had no idea.  i've never even moved any of my pts and still mine a little bit each day on a laptop so I am glad to hear this.

I spend most of my time working on the mastercoin project but i do keep tabs on what is going on and have been somewhat surprised at the volatility of stuff like NXT.

Holding onto my PTS and put BTC in AGS. Feel a bit stupid not to have diluted PTS earlier to get more BTC and hence for AGS now.

PTS could get more value if the AGS donations are not used for BitsharesX generation, which means more BitsharesX/ PTS. Also, I wonder if its possible to leave out exchange wallets when generating the genesis block. They don't give any discount in trading or withdrawl fees (Bter actually has a 0.1 PTS withdrawl fee) and so no reason they should benefit.

If the exchange and AGS wallets are left out that means there is a huge boost to PTS immediately.

This is an interesting concept, but unless someone can get the exchange to voluntarily reveal all of their public keys (with proof) and give up their rights to BTS then I cannot take any such action.

hence the issue with centralized exchanges.

the second you have a working DEx, and announce a DAC dividend or whatever award, people will realize they shouldn't keep money on exchanges.  and to those who don't, as long as you give 30 days notice... well too bad so sad...
