General Discussion / Re: The Main Problems with Bitshares
« on: October 18, 2015, 06:20:08 pm »
If you're not fully happy with the direction or governance decisions, then as I see this, you have two choices. First, follow Thom's advice and try to bring change through the existing system. Second, develop the exchange you want to see, either by developing your own alternative wallet or by forking this with a social consensus sharedrop. I'd rather have an economy of scale with one system, but if there are competing objectives, then at some point maybe it makes sense to try some different things. Let the market run its course and let natural selection decide what's most needed.

General Discussion / Re: Shanghai Blockchain Summit - After Action Report

Nice work. I love your analogy at the end about Shanghai and the common infrastructure. That's a good point to end with. BitShares has the industrial strength blockchain that every one of those businesses can use.

General Discussion / BTS bonfire tracker
« on: October 18, 2015, 04:32:01 am »
Is there a way to add a tracker to the website that show how much BTS is being burned (either on a daily basis or in real time)? I think such a feature would increase traffic and help create a buzz around the ultimate profitability of this blockchain.

stop watching the price.
no, don't let the price confuse you, don't let the price affect your work.
but you always need to think about  the price.

I'm not thinking about the price -- it's just a fiction at the moment. The price you see is utterly irrelevant. The 1.0 coin has been dying on some exchanges. The 2.0 version essentially is in beta testing. This transition will take a while to shake out and returns will come in time, not right away. Frankly, I'll be glad if we can run this thing with slow and steady growth. That will mean we have succeeded and the short term speculators will not be able to hold BTS hostage.

$1 is very achievable.

Guys....its been less than 4 days...not even 100 hours since launch....we have a mechanism in place to make changes and evolve the protocol when we see fit...we have partners who have said they are interested....even if none of them pan out, there will be others...Stan and several others are pitching BTS as we speak...the referral/affiliate system will be launched in most likely days, not weeks...we need to stay the course, ignore the price and discuss practical things we can do to improve the feature set...yes, the UI should be better...so let's talk about what changes we would like to see and get the ball rolling on implementation...everything else lets just take a deep breath and give this thing some time.

Many of us have been following a long time...what's a few more weeks? This isn't about a moonshot, it's about the long turbulent development of a protocol and platform with HUGE potential...we just have to stay the course. The writing is NOT on the wall for me. Exactly the opposite in fact.

...YEAH!

OpenLedger / Re: Constructive criticism creating synergies!

I love "Open Ledger Exchange'. Great name. I have used CCEDK and like it. But I must say I don't care for the name. Too many letters. Alphabet soup. My brain turns off after three our four letters and you have five. Open Ledger would be an awesome improvement!

Stakeholder Proposals / Re: Lets vote for lower fees!
« on: October 17, 2015, 07:02:56 am »
we could provide free banking for the world.

This is not a free project. We are still paying for the development and maintenance of BitShares. A lot of people have put a good deal of hard work and money into developing this. We all have hopes that it can be widely used to make peoples' lives better in the developing world. But we can't suddenly hand it out for free any more than a company that's developed an HIV vaccine can ignore all the costs it has spent developing the medicine. Now it may not be as cheap as you'd like, but I don't think BitShares is gouging anybody either. In time, as with any new product that needs to develop scale, the costs should come down naturally.

my heart is broken.

Looks like you've been buying up some cheap BTS. Now that you're a larger stakeholder, I guess you'll have to be more positive on the forums, right?  ;)

The old 1.0 coin is dying on some exchanges (being reported on CMC) and the new one is just being born as people begin to use the new wallet. It will be rocky for awhile longer. Remember, we're essentially beta testing this thing still, even though the back end is set. I have not looked at the price in the last few days and won't worry about it for the next few weeks.

Keep it and let's see this baby grow.

Our competition is not other crypto. It's legacy payment processors like PayPal and on-line usage of debit cards.

This. Exactly this.

I fully agree. My post referenced other coins because the OP mentioned them, but we're aiming far beyond cryptos with this. Most Fortune 1000 companies use a referral system of some sort in the marketing. That's our turf now.
