General Discussion / An open letter to Tonyk
« on: September 26, 2014, 03:04:57 pm »
HI Tonyk,

I have no idea who you are or what you do. Like everyone else I have met in Bitshares, I am sure you are an invaluable member of the team, and a true rockstar at something. Perhaps your are a genius coder, or a legendary UI guy. And given the number of posts you have made you most certainly have been here longer than me.

What I am quite certain of though is that you are not a rockstar at anything to do with interacting with customers or prospects.

A person who was a rockstar at those tasks would know that it takes an enormous amount of effort and strategy to put out press releases, make videos, write articles, speak at meetups and do webinars in the hopes of introducing maybe 10,000 people to bitshares.

A rockstar at customer service would be aware that of those 10,000 people touched only about 500 would have their interest piqued. Of those only about 50 would have the spare time after going a to their job and playing with their kids to do any research at all, let alone read several posts/articles and watch videos.

Of those, after being frustrated by not being able to fully grasp these very new and difficult concepts, only about 5 would still be curios enough and courageous enough to post questions in public forum where they run the risk of ridicule.

And a rockstar would know that after all that hard work, to get those 5 curious and courageous people to get involved in bistshares after they have asked those questions would be as simple as being friendly, humble and patient as they connect the last few dots on this very large and difficult concept.

In short, a rockstar would treat those 5, like the hard-earned precious gems that they are.

So please, stop sabotaging bitsharesx by responding to new inquiries. That is a specialty job whose primary prerequisite is that the person is not accused of being a dick so often, that they feel the need to preemptively defend against those accusations in their signature.

I think we will make the community very very very aware of the cost of inflation and they will price in the halving in the 6 months before, causing a near doubling before hand.  My guess it will be quite smooth.

Heads of to Dan for his passion, dedication and vision!

I think you mean hats off.  No need to decapitate yourself or others in appreciation of Dans work.    :D   But I agree with the sentiment.

"How can a cryptocurrency be made profitable?" / "what if you could get paid to hold bitcoin from the transaction fees?"

I'd wait until after dan's keynote so you can refer to it as an authority

When is that?

General Discussion / Headline suggestions
« on: September 25, 2014, 01:02:36 am »
Hey team,

So I am thinking the next concept I will introduce via video to the bitcoin community is DAC's. Profitable Crypto's vs non-profitable crypto's.   Again this will not be a ram it down your throat btsx is awesome video.

It will be a bitcoin and blockchain are awesome because it allows DAC's.

What is a headline that would make a devout bitcoiner click on to learn about this topic?

Thanks for suggestions in advance.

This is a first start:
https://bter.com/trade/BITUSD_USD

IMHO the peg is holding very well. Some stats and nice pages with an overview are still missing though ..

The fact that the peg is holding without bots to speak of or massive intervention by selfless actors in a low volatility market is a good sign.

The pegs works well enough that you can use BitUSD to hedge against BTSX falling and make money when BTSX does fall.

The peg is working despite:
1) buggy client, buggy market, low volume, etc....

Once all of these issues work themselves out it can only improve from here.

This is very encouraging.   Did this just "happen" as predicted or did you guys end up doing a bit of "manipulating" as youpreviously discusses to get this done?

BTW, Any suggestions on what the next topics we should introduce to the community should be are most welcome.

Actually specifically the headlines are what is important.  I think we all know the points of difference we are trying to get across. Its about the headline that appeals to a bitcoin lover about bitcoin, that gets them intrigues in the video.  Teach them something about bitcoin.  That is what they want to learn about.  Then explain why  there is something even better.

Anytime you try to introduce a brand new concept that solves a problem people were unaware they had and you have not platform (brand, email list, celebrity status) to leverage off of, it is going to be a long hard slog.  There will be no easy routes.

Expect low conversions rates.  Expect spits in the face. (Think mormons knocking on doors reactions)   But we chip away and 1or2% take notice, and momentum builds and builds.   I would argue we already have great success (of course I am biased).  There are many comments in my videos thanking me for introducing them to bitshares... And remember this is just the first and second touch.   Most sales take 7+ touches.

I know there are other people doing awesome work as well, but just one of my videos has 7,000+ views. That knowledge (inefficiency of POW) is now stuck in their head.   They can't forget it if they wanted to, no matter how hard they scream blasphemy on the forums.

As we touch them again, with other superior points of difference (videos yet to be determined) the evidence mounts and minds are changed.

I am an anarchist and an atheist. I have had thousands of conversations bringing reason and evidence to people who believe in and advocate destructive and logically inconsistent ideas.

If I were generous I would say I have managed to change the minds of maybe 1% of them.  Of those I probably did not introduce the idea to any of them. Probably others had before me and I was just the final touch that got them across the line.   Many of the people who said I was crazy might one day change their mind while speaking to another ambassador of those causes.   I will never know about it but I will have done my part.

All you can do is be a kind and generous ambassador, and love them no matter how long it takes them to change their mind and results will follow. It is not personal.  They are just dealing with their own shit and trying to get through life as best they can.  The moment you take it personally and be even a touch rude or curt, you are a poor ambassador and set the goals you are trying to achieve back massively.

By the way... we have 3 bitassets now.  Are the pegs holding?   Once the pegs hold I will do more videos on that. I can see bitGLD appeal to a certain crowd though. Although I see a split in physical and paper gold prices very soon.  How will that work?  That would hold me back from trusting bitGld too much.

Thank you for furthering my understanding of the crypto world.
Do you accept donations for your work and if you do how can I do it.

aloha  :)

I am not offended by donations  :)  Signature added.  Thank you.

yeah arhag, your responses are rocking it.   This is the hard slog that is teaching theists about atheism.   One at a time among slurry of insuslts.  That is who they will be won over.

Is Brian still resigning as head of marketing? I think we have found a replacement.
What the ... ??!  ??? ???

Well there was this discussion a month ago now:
https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=6845.0
I am sure you know my post counter .. I do know about this thread .. and I do know about the ongoing discussions .. but I do believe you are mixing things up ...
brian has not "resigned" .. he founded an own company for the purpose of marketing bitshares ... not just btsX .. and as far as I know noone from the community is paying a penny for that .. so how come you dare speaking like this?

honest question: do you even know what Brian is doing all-day long?

It's I3s and DSLs decision to hire a marketing guy .. if you don't like it .. hire an own one

FYI Brian hired me.

Vote it up in all locations if you wish.

Remember don't hate on bitcoin in the comments. Talk only how we can help bitcoin go to the moon.
