Is there a way to tell how much income the blockchain generated from this?

Do you want to see businesses join this blockchain? That's where the growth can come from at this point. You are proposing to eliminate the incentive for them to do so.

If penny investors cannot afford the fee, then how much money are they really going to bring into BitShares? I'd rather have the CCEDKs of the world investing their own time and money to grow and innovate in this ecosystem.

If you don't like it, fork it. Free BitShares for everyone. And you figure out how to pay for the maintenance and support of your own system.

totally agree donkey

BTS is officially dead if the fees are lowered to 1...  There will be no incentive for development much less block production.

Update on this: I managed to stay focused for a few weeks, then it lost my interest, in classic failure fashion.

Blew another week or two playing civ iv. realized that I've played that game for a decade and am still terrible at it. learning programming can't be THAT much harder than this.

the way I see it, this could be a major bitter defeat that results in me giving for an even longer amount of time and making zero progress.

or I could get my ass up and back on the horse, analyze what went wrong, and try again.

here's what I think went wrong:

1) I picked the wrong kind of book. In my quest to find something comprehensive, i went a little overboard and picked a book completely dedicated to syntax. I think it would have made a much better reference book than something for a near-newbie to learn from.

2) I think I picked the wrong programming language. I need to be picking a tool based on what I want to do. And what I want to do, people use c++, so that should be the syntax I'm learning, even if it is a little tougher. as I was forcing myself to press on in that book I kept thinking "even after I learn python, I'm still another book on programming away from getting closer to what I really want to study." that allowed a discouraging feedback loop to fester.

So I'm reexamining the situation. I really want to make something of this so I'm researching new learning options. These ones oriented towards C++, and designed to be a TUTORIAL, not a reference. I'm going to choose carefully this time. I want something readable, that doesn't go into way too much detail, but still goes deep and teaches what I need to know.

If anybody gives a shit, I'll let you know what I decide.

I did a bunch of the paths in codecademy and realized that it is just a primer.  I needed to practice better as codecademy just has you fill in little snipits here and there.  It's great as an introduction but i needed something thorough and with more examples so that I could get my brain to actually comprehend and apply what I was reading.

I ended up going to Javascriptissexxy.com and following the learn javascript properly path.  So far so good as it combines codecademy, a text book, code school and some blog posts.  The course is broken down into 6 weeks of learning.  Best of all it's free other than buying the textbook for $30.

@merockstar I chose Javascript because BM said that plasma was going to be very friendly to people who know js... I thought I would get a jumpstart.

that is excellent! are you still popping into mumble in the afternoons? my work situation is weird right now. they'll use me for a week then abandon me. then call me in a few days a couple weeks later and I'm finding it hard to get into a routine.

it's too bad there isn't more interest in something like this here. just three different guys with interests in learning different things. I feel like something like the original purpose of this thread would be difficult to organize that way.

but it sounds like javascriptissexy has done just that for you!

I think I missed the thread where it was revealed what Plasma is going to be exactly. Still a mystery in my mind. That could maybe be the motivation I need to jump in and join you on javascript. what you describe does sound like something I really need.

But designing websites just doesn't appeal to me the way writing applications does. the ability to tell a computer what you want it to do with the hardware it's running on just sounds so much cooler to me than coding up a webpage. Bitcoin is C++, and so is BitShares. Most major for profit products are written in C++. C++ just seems like the language for somebody who wants to step up and wield the true power of a computer. It's the one that really excites me to think about knowing.

I was considering other learning paths, but the FAQ in the C++ section of the learnprogramming subreddit had the following advice: It doesn't matter what programming language you want to learn, pick the tool that suits what you want to do and learn it. If you want to learn C++, learn C++. If you want to learn Python learn Python, but don't pick Python because it's easier for learning. That was exactly what I was doing.

That's exactly what I'd be doing for Javascript too, unless somebody sells me on it. Maybe I should google "Why learn Javascript," see if I can stimulate my own interest.

Does anybody know what would be a good language to study for somebody interesting in writing apps on ethereum? Just out of curiosity.

I actually had a semester of coding in C++ and C# during college.  From what I can tell they are very similar to javascript.  They are all object oriented programming languages with similar syntax.

When I was starting I was kind of in the same boat as far as picking a language... what I realized is that choosing a language isn't like choosing a car.  It's not I'm a Ford guy vs I'm a Chevy guy.  Many languages compliment each other.  Just look at bitshares... the wallet I believe is Javascript while the code is C++.  I also was doing some research on Reactjs vs Angularjs.  What I found out is that these are both used to write apps, but become much more powerful when used together.

I think when you say javascript is just for designing websites, you are thinking more html, css, and jquery (which is just a library for javascript).  I believe javascript can do just about anything when it comes to apps and devices, including storing user authentication data.

I don't think you can go wrong starting with javascript.  I think you are going to be able to do everything that you listed and probably more, especially if plasma turns out to be similar to what BM was talking about.  And once you learn it, you shouldn't have much trouble picking up on C++ later.

I confess to selling from ANGEL today to cover some expenses.   Unfortunately, I sold just prior to the big pump :(

On the brighter side super33 appears to be out of BTS to sell.
how  many  bts that ags  fund  have ?  if  have  how to use this fund ,  it is belong  to  who ? ,according to ags donation commitment , it is belong to community, and now many community member do not satisfy with you
bm because you make big mistake that hurt bts (maybe it is not my view, it is just the views  i get from QQ group ) but this is not important. so do you  have right to use ags fund ?  i think  you  do not  have  right
i suggest  that you distory all bts of  ags fund  (if ags fund have bts). leave the last dignity

so i suggest  that  you dist

Just looking at this price action, you can tell that there are a ton of trapped longs just trying to get out around even...

Wut? Whatever ure trying to say, I think u have a very vague understanding of how these markets work.

they are probably going to chase ethereum and get burned in the same way.

Flawed logic right there.

Cryto traders are idiots... they chase whatever is hot.  Most have no plan and hope to get rich in 6 months on 1 hot investment.

Please enlighten me with why my logic may be flawed.

U sound like ur frustration comes from being out of the loop on this one. Mist is out, we had vitalik talking up zk-snarks again, R3 had their spokesman announcing the successful implementation of their experimental blockchain-based eth-aligned financial platfrom, azure service will come to fruition soon. Not a big science that pooptons of wealthy ppl that are not screwing around, will be coming aboard when the news hit the really big pockets and big economy. Why would u blame average joes for their interest to highly speculative markets like eth?

Trapped longs ... Dude... Have u followed the market? Distinct falling wage starting early nov and ending mid jan, double bottom 400/500 sato, cmf indicates big monies injection, alligator gone max retard, signalling of a trend reversal followed by a ascending triangle. I bet there would be lots of squeezed shorts at a 1300 range before the next huge bullish pennant is formed and the prices are taken to sub 2K level.

The trapped longs I am talking about are the people who invested in PTS/AGS... not short/medium term that you seem to be referring to.  These long term holders have had their shares vesting and havn't been able to sell.  At one point they saw their investment nearly 10x higher than current market cap only to watch those paper gains disappear.  There are lots of holders of bts in this position.  There is a ton of supply that is steadily hitting the bts market.

I understand that there are several "bullish" announcements and news events with crypto... but those don't always translate to price increases.  Ethereum is bubbling right now.  I wouldn't be surprised to see this back sub 100 million in the next 3 months or so just to shake out the weak late coming bulls.  Not saying that it won't be worth over a billion in the next few years though after the crypto specs are shaken out.

Metatrader4 with bitshares plugin

This is what we need... it will bring in more traders and more liquidity than almost any other proposal... throw in a lending market and were golden.

Regarding the liquidity thing... I recall we gave bunker 4+ delegates on the promise that his bunker-mining project would bring in thousands of dollars a day in liquidity to BTS in the short term, and millions in daily liquidity over the medium term.

Haven't heard much about that project other than it's stuck in some sort of prototyping phase...

Point is, we have been trying to gain liquidity forever without much success.  We have tried lots of gimmicks.  It's tough to just put a list up of things we "should" do and expect everyone to jump on board.  We've been burned enough, and really need to see some well thought out plans with actual ROI's attached.  Otherwise it's just shooting from the hip and will most likely end up with the same failures we so consistently achieve.

I think the AGS funds were spent long ago...

Just looking at this price action, you can tell that there are a ton of trapped longs just trying to get out around even... they are probably going to chase ethereum and get burned in the same way.  Hopefully those whales that sold have had their funds picked up by multiple smaller investors.  Lot's of small holders is much better than a few whales.

I sure do hope they have their boots ready to kick themselves extra hard :)
We are slowly rolling out to an early alpha over the week. You will witness the site evolve into a transactional system over the next 4-7 days.

Regards

I recommend creating some simple videos to show-off the project as it starts moving to a transactional system. Something as simple as Camtastia would be awesome.  With this using BitShares, the community should be excited about the progress.

Yes, it is in the works. We'll have a promo video soon.

Are you exclusively using Bitshares?  Can you direct me to your website?

Given our past (sour) experience with another coin community, we no longer pledge allegiance to any coin particularly. It is just business at the end of the day.
As of now BTS integration serves our purpose (quick tx's) and due to the same it has been implemented. We will also have Bitcoins and in-game items.

In regards to a UIA - we had a very private fund raiser, with private investors whose names won't be revealed.
There will be a token issuance for them. Other than them, we are not looking to raise funds.
I'll be approaching institutional investors in 3-6 months from now to close a deal in regards to gamebet and its entire ecosystem.
That said, in the event that we do find large -scale interest in what we're building, we might open to the markets here.
Personally, (and the team) is apprehensive of public large scale fund raisers (in the tune of 500k+) due to a large number of reasons.
Under the right circumstances, we might consider it.

For now, my key focus is getting the product out asap, marketing it to a point where we do have a large user base and hitting profitability.
Fund raising is something that will keep happening procedurally in the backgrounds as we build our relationships with our investors and attain metrics over time.

Does using bitshares offer you guys any advantage over other coins?  It's great that you are incorporating BTS, but I'm still trying to find a business that uses bitshares as it's backbone.  So far that search has been futile...

What is one business that can be built on BTS that isn't exchange related?

If there was one example then I think bts would be in a much better place... unfortunately there are none.  I've expressed my view that CNX should layout a potential business plan, and let the community all take a shot at it.  They know the capabilities of the blockchain the best and fostering some early development would see exponential returns later on.  It doesn't seem like CNX wants to demonstrate any of the capabilities of graphene.  Its code that we all hear is "revolutionary" but don't see any evidence of how it is "revolutionary".  Why would an outside dev even waste his time trying to learn the 12th most valuable crypto on cmc?

Right now BTS is a way to save money using a derivative based on a yahoo finance price feed... and it's illiquidity makes it unattractive to savers.  The costs (fee's and spreads) to get in are not doing to price any favors either.

Are you still working on the CLI?  I'm almost done with "build your own website" track as well.  Were you planning on some sort of collaboration/project between the people doing codecademy?

im playing around and learning. whatever anyone wants to do is what i figure we will do.  this is just another initiative i think is important.

as for progress i plan to continue now that thame holidays are over and family is heading home after the holidays.

Hows that CLI training going?  Did you finish yet?

I know this wont be a popular comment.

I think you should switch to ethereum honestly .   Much easier for developers to learn and get up to speed on.

There are very few developers with graphene knowledge except the ones you guys already know about.  What are the reasons to stay with graphene?

Do you guys have a CTO or someone like it that can advise you?  Maybe ask @toast what he thinks about it.  I see him doing development on ethereum now.

Why would they switch now?  They wan't fast tps and graphene gives them that.  They are not trying to entice outside dev's to build apps and business's on the muse blockchain.

Because they need to hire developers to build muse/peertracks/troopers.  I think they are going to have issues finding anyone outside bytemaster's crew that could do what they ultimately need done.  Not sure why they even need fast tps at this point.  they have no product and no developers working with them.  The developer community is clearly much stronger and greater in ethereum thus it would allow them to attract the talent they need to actually build a product.

According to a few coders that have come to these forums, it should take an experienced programmer around 2 weeks to familiarize himself with the graphene code.  It's just C++, it's not rocket science.  I'm betting the learning curve for ethereum is going to be around the same amount of time.  Remember they are talking about hiring programmers from failed startups, not necessarily blockchain specialists.  Plus they have access to CNX for support in some way i'm sure.

Unless Cob wanted to set this project back another year or more... I don't think he would even entertain the idea.
