Market Pegged Assets - Shenzhen and Shanghai Stock Exchange Composite Indexes
First shout out to the props of Monsterer for his work on this, without him this would not be done.
We need 51 delegates, please talk to any of your 101 delegate friends to approve this asset.
You will be able to trade the Shenzhen and Shanghai stock exchange composite indexes found here on the Bitshares Decentralized Exchange Platform ticker symbols SHENZHEN and SHANGHAI.
http://www.bitsharesblocks.com/asset/info?asset=SHENZHEN
http://www.bitsharesblocks.com/asset/info?asset=SHANGHAI
These market pegged assets (MPAS) mimic (track) the Shenzhen Stock Exchange Composite Index (399106.SZ) http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=399106.SZ and the Shanghai Stock Exchange Composite Index (000001.SS) https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/q?s=000001.SS
Please approve this so we can start getting the volume up.
We need bots, we need market markers, we need traders, we need investors. Be one of them and welcome to the Stock Boom.
Also if anyone wants to get the NYSE, LSE, NASDAQ up, im all for it.

We've set the ground work, but we're not quite there yet - we still need a feed script hero to create a pull request which includes these two indices :)
edit: I've also created:
http://www.bitsharesblocks.com/asset/orderbook?asset=HANGSENG
http://www.bitsharesblocks.com/asset/orderbook?asset=NASDAQC
http://www.bitsharesblocks.com/asset/orderbook?asset=NIKKEI
In the past, so any of these is also going to be awesome!

Im willing to pay a 2k BTS bounty for anyone to do what monsterer just said. This bounty will be denominated in bitcoin but you can trade it into bts.

This really is a great idea.

Add 2k to that on me.
Thank you BitcoinJesus 2.0, your graphic in the other thread rocks!
-
Please amend the feed script and I will update my delegate asap. If you need help I can take a look at the script.
-
Im now paying $100 USD from Paypal (not using bitshares or bitcoin) for this bounty.
BitcoinJesus2.0 has said he'll give 2000 BTS.
So $100 USD if you use it to buy bitshares will be 14000 BTS + the 2000 BTS from Jesus

Community action at work!
How much of an advantage is the fact that MPAs will be able to trade 24/7?
I'm thinking we could get a lot of liquidity at the weekends.
Do any other stock indexes continue to trade at the weekend?

The futures market in the United States starts trading on Sunday afternoon.
Because our transaction fees are so low, we could dethrone the equity markets.

Brilliant :D

Definitely HUGE potential here.

Wait for BitAssets 2.0 and then back these by BitCNY rather than BTS. Speculating that BTS will outperform the stock market is much riskier than speculating that it will outperform cash.

How long till BitAssets 2.0? If we lose these markets we are done for.
In 1 week we outperformed the SSE Composite over a year.
If it takes another month to get the bitAssets 2.0 we could have already generated 200 million in index assets.

The issue I am having when implementing this is that an INDEX is not denominated in an other currency .. but we need the price as a ratio to BTS ..
Or am I seeing something wrong?
Are SHENZHEN COMPOSITs denominated in CNY?

I don't know the answer to this question - I had imagined these new indicies would be priced in BTS directly, but I guess you could price them in CNY->BTS if that's a better way to go?

That's good to know .. but what is of "price for 1 point" in Shenzhen and Shanghai Stock Exchange Composite Indexes?

I would just price it in BTS like, shenzhen is currently 2793.25, here: http://www.bloomberg.com/quote/SZCOMP:IND, so 2793.25 BTS seems logical? Guess that's 1:1?

Would make it easy to update the price feed script and would also make it independent of CNY price .. not sure if this is the desired effect .. also this is not something we can "just decide" .. is it?

'Pricing' it in BTS this way will be truly funny. :)

'Pricing' it in BTS will be truly funny. :)
Hey tony .. good to have you back .. haven't seen you in a while ..
could you elaborate why pricing it in BTS would be "funny"?

I guess we could do with some chinese input on the subject of how to price these?
-
If we price it in BTS we could become the new standard in the future.
CNY is a heavily manipulated currency, we could always do what byte master says whenever bitasset 2.0 is coming up but waiting is not prudent. People from other crypts could be watching this forum, waiting for us to f up.

OK funny to me...reminds me in my 4-5 grade proof that D (distance traveled) = time^2 or D=speed^2,
...thought I discovered something great....well for couple of hours at least while enjoying the discovery instead of searching for the error in my proof.

What's the problem getting it up, seeing how much demand there is then getting a bitCNY pegged one up in a month or 2 when bitasset 2.0 is out.
-

As you said: People from other crypts could be watching this forum, waiting for us to f up.
I think they just want to do things right.
If it's worth doing, it's worth doing it right.
I think that was basically why bytemaster already suggested to hold on.
-
Why don't we just price it like bitSILVER is priced? There is no exchange trading bitsilver, so the price comes through USD, I think. So, just price the index against CNY, and then convert CNY into BTS?
-
Excuse my ignorance here, but the two items you're discussing feeds for are stock market indexes, whose price is set only once per day (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSE_Composite_Index (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSE_Composite_Index)), so why is a price feed necessary, why not rely on the published index price?
Is it b/c there is something like a mutual fund (a single, tradable entity) that represents this index? If so I could see the need to track the trading price for such an item, but I don't get it for the index itself which is only set once a day.

They are priced all the time when the stock exchanges are open, they are indexes that are a complimation of all stocks in the exchanges but it's a bit more complicated then that because there are different ones and ones like the S&P 500 which is the 500 biggest stocks in the USA.

Why go to college when you could earn money right away by waiting tables? Because it's an investment in your future. Do this once and do it right, even if you have to wait for the technology.

I think we can have our cake, and eat it. If we price the index in CNY, then just convert that to BTS (since all feeds must be listed in BTS anyway). That way it will work consistently when we are able to price in CNY without converting?

Definitely HUGE potential here.
Absolutely!

Ok .. so this would be a patch for my script:
https://github.com/xeroc/bitshares-pytools/compare/master...indices
I denominate the index in CNY but before I merge this with "master" I need someone to figure out some more details about the INDEX .. in particular, I am interested to know HOW exactly the index is derived and what the weights/percentages for the individual stocks/assets are ..
Can someone figure them out or point me to where I can find them?
-

What values do you get spat out of that script? It looks ok from a cursory glance, but without running it, I can't tell for sure :)
Here are the component parts of the index:
http://www.szse.cn/main/en/marketdata/Indiceslist/
It doesn't say how they are weighted, tho.

according to wikipedia : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSE_Composite_Index
SSE Indices are all calculated using a Paasche weighted composite price index formula. This means that the index is based on a base period on a specific base day for its calculation. The base day for SSE Composite Index is December 19, 1990, and the base period is the total market capitalization of all stocks of that day. The Base Value is 100. The index was launched on July 15, 1991.
The formula is:
Current index = Current total market cap of constituents × Base Value / Base Period
Total market capitalization = ∑ (price × shares issued)
So, for this index the weight is the number of shares issued by each individual company. The problem I see is that you must have current correct amount of shares issued for every company at all times. It can be a pain...and no I do not know where to get (and update) those numbers from.

At least it seems reasonable now to denomiate them in CNY ...
This is another page that at least lists the components

Why do we need to recompute the index when it already has a value from yahoo? I'm not following the logic there.

I do not see much value in recalculating it, but that was the question asked.

Dan byte master was right when in bitCNY it will be better but let's get this up for now and see if there is any demand.

Shenzhen was up 3.5% today while Shanghai was up 1.6%

I had sth running yesterday, but I'm without laptop today, I will post an update to the bts_tools tomorrow at the latest and will also publish the feed (shenzhen only, same problem as xeroc for shanghai. I think I've found a workaround but I need to spend a bit more time on it)

Xeroc and wacko u, you guys rock.
Is it at a level I can start promoting it to the delegates, if even we can just do Shenzhen?

I just released version 0.2.4 of the bts_tools package which now allows to publish feeds for SHENZHEN (priced in CNY), NASDAQC (in USD), NIKKEI (in JPY) and HANGSENG (in HKD).
My delegate bts_tools.digitalgaia is now publishing those feeds as well.
Please remember to vote for btstools.digitalgaia, which is now in position 102! If it gets voted in, here's a list of the things I propose to develop: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,14501.0.html and https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,12534.0.html

as the link that xeroc posted mentions, you just need to configure a running delegate and add the "feeds" value to its "monitoring" field, this should ensure both checking feeds and publishing them. To troubleshoot feeds, you can set the debug level for feeds to DEBUG in the ~/.bts_tools/config.yaml file.

We need to popularize Hang Seng and Shenzhen with the Chinese community as they are the traders.
We need to get into cointelegrah saying we did indexes which is the beginning of a decentralized stock market.
Also putting in the Facebook page and groups that this is now online.
As well as getting a marketing delegate or worker advertising on Facebook and render would be good, or QQ if they offer a type of advertising service.

We need to get market making bots done for this, we need an accurate price.
-
Most of all you need people willing to short them into existence, so I'd suggest focusing on one index at a time in order to build some liquidity..
