General Discussion / Re: VOTE DAC Just Got More Interesting 2.0
« on: October 18, 2014, 07:47:42 am »
1) BTSX hard cap of 2 billion is going to limit its growth potential.

Now I'm confused? It is up to shareholders to determine if BTSX has a "hard cap of 2 billion". If shareholders deem it necessary they can vote in delegates that support delusion, right?

From the "How much is a new user worth?" thread (https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=9603.0) it seems like +60% of the people are for delusion as long as there is a good plan. And many of the people who were against it change their minds and some even said it should be done if need be but only as a last resort.

So BTSX doesn't have a hard cap and doesn't have limited growth potential. Or at least I think it should be left up to shareholders to decide if it does.

Or have I missed something???

What is happening to BTSX right now on BTER, BTC38, and the other exchanges, to me, is meaningless. We are only known to a very very small audience of crypto-heads and most of them have their heads so far up Bitcoin's ass they can't tell a scam coin from an emerging ecosystem.

XP? Isn't it time for an upgrade?

I mean sell remaining btc.  Keeping pts and btsx

About 2000 btc left

Can you say when you will do this? 2000 btc would eat the sell wall like the cookie monster.

Now wouldn't be a good time to do it. BTC is too cheap.

It would be wise to divest BTC over a six or 12 month period.

It's never wise to sell on a downward pressure in something which has long term growth potential. BTC has long term growth potential and is at an all time low. It would be wise not to sell this year also because a lot of BTC has been stolen, Wall Street hasn't jumped in yet, mainstreet hasn't jumped in yet, 2000 BTC is millions of dollars worth of BTC.

In my opinion when it's worth enough that the interest on the BTC is enough to start hiring people then Bytemaster should trade BTC for BitBTC or BitUSD. If it's BitBTC then 2000 BTC is always 2000 BTC but you get interest. If it's BitUSD it doesn't make much sense at these prices.

When Bitcoin is at all time highs all of us are going to want that interest. The really interesting question is will the interest be in BitBTC or in BitUSD?

Ok let's assume BTC goes to $2000, if that were to happen then most alts would follow it. So wouldn't it help the community a lot more if it was converted to BTSX and maybe only some was converted to bitUSD to hedge?

That would show that the devs have 100% faith that the system will work and grow imo.

Soon - As defined by Blizzard Entertainment: "Soon" does not imply any particular date, time, decade, century, or millennia in the past, present, and certainly not the future. "Soon" shall make no contract or warranty between Blizzard Entertainment and the end user. "Soon" will arrive some day, Blizzard does guarantee that "soon" will be here before the end of time. Maybe. Do not make plans based on "soon" as Blizzard will not be liable for any misuse, use, or even casual glancing at "soon."
The patch will be released soon.

Consumer gets a better deal negotiating fees on his own behalf rather than attempting to let delegates do it on their behalf....  I thought about this at first, but it gets messy fast.
Yea that makes sense.

I think there should be cheap btsx user issued assets too, maybe have 2 categories, a premium and a cheap one, the only difference being prominence in the client.

I think that is the point of Bitshares ME

Why have a different DAC for that? I really don't understand the point of that, it just fragments the community and reduces the chance of both DACS to take off and gain network effect.
In the long term I would agree with you. But for right now I think it would cause more confusion and not really benefit anyone to a great extent. Basically what I'm saying is in the short term it would do more damage than good imo.

If we have that attitude why would people who have jobs paying in fiat ever care about BitUSD or Bitcoin? They'll only care when the job they have pays in BitUSD or the new job they get is offering to pay in BitUSD. At that point they will investigate what BitUSD is and discover Bitshares. That is free marketing to anyone looking for work and also if we are getting paid in BitUSD then we show we trust the system enough ourselves.

+5% I agree with this. We have to start somewhere and this would be a great starting place!

Yeah it sounds exciting. It should work depending on how familiar and seamless the whole experience is to the average consumer. If it's done well then circa 5% yield is probably ideal. (Because counter-intuitively past a certain yield, the average consumer may perhaps think it's 'too good' and questionable as a result. The same goes for a deposit bonus if they did one.)

Yes, the sleeper consumers would need to be assured that they would get back the same amount of USD (ie the bitUSD peg holds true)  as they put into the debit card.

I do think fees make this not so appealing.

Since we don't want the "average joe" to have to think about all this we should come up with a way where their yield from bitUSD goes towards the fees and the rest they can keep. Would that be possible?

I would hold off on the video until the new system is rolled out.

General Discussion / Re: Cost basis in BTC or USD
« on: October 15, 2014, 05:40:42 am »
If I thought bitcoin was going down the best place I could keep my money is USD. Alts generally follow bitcoin so it wouldn't make much sense to put ones money in them if bitcoin's price is going down. Bitshares is my first "altcoin" so I'm not to familiar with how altcoins are traded but I don't think it would make sense to buy bitcoin if you thought the altcoin's price was going down because as I said before alts generally follow bitcoin. That's why I think calculating cost basis for altcoins in btc doesn't make sense. Just my 2 cents.
