I would recommend to use the CLI version "bitshares_client.exe" to sync the blockchain (you can verify by typing "info")
once the blockchain is synced, you can close the CLI version (by "quit") and run the GUI version again ..
After initial unlocking of your wallet it will certainly take some time to rescan for transactions ..

alternatively you can also download the blockchain
a) via chain servers http://wiki.bitshares.org/index.php/BitShares/Chain-Server or
b) via bittorrent (somewhere in this forum, published by @fav)

Hi,

I'm running Win 7x64 Bitshares 9.2.

Recently opened the client, to find the blockchain missing and it starting to download the whole chain again. I can see my account still there, but it crashes at about 60%, then when i start it up again, its starting @ 1% again.

Please help.
