General Discussion / Re: Block Explorer and Delegates Listing
« on: September 02, 2014, 09:39:46 pm »
Hey svk,

You might already know and be working on it, but it looks like your site's connection to the blockchain is down as all areas appear to be not populated with data.

I tried it from 2 different sources so I don't believe the problem is on my end.

Just a heads up in case you weren't aware.

Thanks.
I had the issue when I was on my work's vpn. Soon as I killed it the site populated correctly. Not sure what's up with that.
Hmm Ok weird, it was working on my VPS but now won't load any data anymore, I double checked on my work computer and got the same no data, I'll remote to my home computer and test there as well.  Thanks.

Edit: It's randomly working on my VPS again.

General Discussion / Re: DACs for Virtual Reality
« on: September 02, 2014, 06:18:19 pm »
I'm a big fan of VR and have enjoyed playing with the new Oculus development kits (try one out if presented with the opportunity!).  I'm not sure where DACs will fit in with virtual reality but I'm sure they will at some point.

I suppose you could build a VR game that utilizes a DAC as the in game currency or a DAC could be interfaced with in virtual social environments where it might make sense to make financial or other type transactions with others.

Unfortunately I'm just scratching the surface on creating some simple demos so I'm quite a few steps away from being able to speak on integration with various DACs from a technical perspective.

Very useful site, will be using it quite a bit.  Also the design is simple but clear and easy to use.  Thanks for the good work.

Nice explanation xeroc.

I've read about how TITAN works in a few other spots but this description was effective and concise, thanks.

General Discussion / Re: Burn Rate
« on: September 02, 2014, 03:57:59 pm »
bluebit, the best thing people can do to increase the burn rate is vote in delegates that have set low pay rates.  Riverhead's delegate is an excellent example of this at 5% pay rate, I also have an active delegate with a 20% pay rate.  Currently the average delegate pay rate percentage is in the mid 80s.

This isn't the only thing to look at though, some delegates with high pay rates have pledged to use the funds earned for various purposes.  Many use the funds to donate to charity or other causes that might help people and make BTSX look good at the same time.

I'd highly encourage you and anyone else to stay active in voting as well as going into DAC Delegates section of the forums and voicing your thoughts on what you'd like to see from your delegates.  The voting system is great but will only work well if people stay involved, communicate and vote for what they want.

Stakeholder Proposals / Re: delegate.liondani... let me introduce myself ;)
« on: September 02, 2014, 03:32:00 pm »
I came back to home and saw I have lost 8 consecutive blocks....   >:(
Now is all ok due to manualy backup server activation... ;)

I will inform further when I figured out what happened....
That is very annoying, however I think not too big deal, main thing is you are involved and communicating and keeping people up to date.  Let us know if you figure it out.  I'm also voting for you by the way, thanks for the good introduction.

Stakeholder Proposals / Re: Attention Delegates: Project Delegatus One
« on: September 01, 2014, 11:25:58 pm »
Let me know if any more information is needed in the future, thanks.

1. what for do you spend your delegates income? (e.g charity, VPS, beer etc.)
Income funds will be held in wallet and used for costs where appropriate.  With a high burn rate most is being returned to stake holders, what is left over and not used to cover costs will be allocated to initiatives that are brought to my attention or I feel will help push Bitshares to success.

2. whats your burn-rate and why?
I have an 80% burn rate.  I think it is a safe assumption to assume that few will have a problem with my delegate using earned fee income to disburse back to stakeholders.  I plan to stick with a high burn rate until there is some kind of clear consensus of what Bitshares X users want to see.

3. where is your delegate located?
Greater Phoenix area in Arizona in the US.

4. whats your machine/connection/redundancy specs?
Local server, 16GB RAM, SSD HD, 150up/20down with unlimited bandwidth plus battery backup.

5. "short" up to 300 character description why are you running a delegate or many of them
I think it is a perfect opportunity to contribute to the Bitshares effort.  I hope to run my delegate how most Bitshares users would like their active delegates to be run.  The delegation is a critical piece of Bitshares X and in becoming one of the 101 I know there is at least one honest delegate for sure.  Hopefully with time, running an honest delegate will give the community trust in me and I will have further opportunities to help with various other projects.
6. are you related to other delegate operators?
No.
7. how many delegates are in your control?
Only one delegate.  I only plan to ever have one delegate active as well.

This is an excellent initiative, thanks for taking the time.

Stakeholder Proposals / Delegate Introduction: alecmenconi
« on: September 01, 2014, 11:06:16 pm »
Hello, my name is Alec Menconi.

I've been following Bitcoin for 2-3 years now and found out about Bitshares sometime around March.  I'm very excited about the possibilities Bitshares offers and that of DACs in general.  My other interests currently are following Storj and attempting to develop games for VR (I own both development kits for the Oculus Rift).  I live in the US in Arizona and have been there for 5+ years so far.

My day job consists mostly of ASP.NET C# MVC development and I've been working in the computer industry for close to a decade now.
Stack Overflow profile (not terribly active there unfortunately): http://stackoverflow.com/users/1763996/alec-menconi
LinkedIn profile: http://www.linkedin.com/pub/alec-menconi/47/685/a42

I wanted to thank everyone that voted for my delegate yesterday putting it in the top 101.  Unfortunately I was not expecting to get voted in so fast and I was experimenting with things with my client up and down so I missed a chunk of initial blocks, however after realizing I could produce blocks I've made sure the client stays online and active.

My delegate is up to date and is auto posting price feeds.  I currently have the pay rate set to 20%.  My philosophy here is that for now it is best to return the majority of fees back to the stake holders until the community matures and some consensuses emerge about how users would like their fees to be utilized.  If in the future it looks like a high burn rate is not desirable for whatever reason in relation to other options, I will create a new delegate to match the will of the stakeholders and ask that all votes be transferred to the new delegate.  I do not ever plan to have more than 1 active delegate at a time.

I'd like to help grow this community however I can so please reach out to me if you have a project in the works and are looking for some volunteers.  Also while I appreciate the importance of privacy I am willing to provide proof of who I am if anyone cares to ask for it.  Thank you for the support so far and I hope to continue producing blocks and staying involved with the community long into the future.

Auto-feed running since last night, thanks!

Stakeholder Proposals / Possible uses for delegate earnings
« on: August 31, 2014, 05:56:49 am »
Hey everyone,

Now that the system is working and we have some delegates earning income I thought it might be a good idea to brainstorm on the different ways delegates could use their earnings to help grow the community.

Off the top of my head here is what I can come up with:
 - Keep the funds as payment
 - Burn the funds by lowering payout %
 - Donate funds to various charities
 - Use funds to create bounties for development
 - Pay developers directly (not a good system for this worked out yet)

If you have some time and ideas please help me add to this list.

If I get some feedback I will build a site and link it here.  It will poll people about where they would like to see the fees go to and in what amounts.

Link to the original idea thread is here: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=5306.0

Initially the site will not verify input based on any blockchain user data, as such the data collection may be gamed a bit, but hopefully will still give me (and any other delegates interested) one of hopefully many different sources of information to assist in deciding where delegate funds should go.  If people actually go and submit their preferences and there seems to be a desire by delegates for that information then I will look into tying the voting to proof of stake or something similar to increase the value of submitted data.

Also if there are any other initiatives elsewhere to collect this data, please let me know about it, thanks!

Wow I stopped watching for a few weeks, come back and not only are we trading but the BTC value of my BTSX is higher than my original investment to acquire PTS/AGS.  I could sell all now, make BTC profit AND still have stake in future DACs!  Not that I plan to sell anytime soon.

Going higher, especially to $1/BTCX, is gravy at this point from a personal investment standpoint.

I'm more interested in DAC technology in general but was hoping that I would make some money long term investing here.  Looking at considerable unrealized gains already is certainly a welcome surprise.

I hope your predictions prove true bitmeat, but even if they don't I think BTSX has been impressive short term anyway.

I'm surprised the price on PTS continue to drop, it would seem like the first I3 DAC already hitting 3 or 4 on total market cap this early in the game would increase confidence that a stake in future I3 DACs is valuable.

I'm a bit torn between buying more PTS or BTSX currently they both seem likely to be good buys long term.

Hmm, sorry for the mostly off topic ramble.
