General Discussion / Re: Ethereum price discussion

@luckybit and others I never owned a single eth because I don't understand its purpose but can you please explain me in 5 lines why ethereum should be worth $1 bil and what it can do that bitshares can't do and why bitshares shouldn't be worth equally? What are the differences and why eth is so superior?

I just don't get all this ethereum madness and I don't get it why people dump bts at these levels.
Please explain.
Thanks

Eth is worth that much because the speculative capital make that worth much .It's simple math .

BTS is not worth that much because BM likes to kill speculators on the ground of future development and real users . Without speculative capital , you have no bubble .

So , in order for BTS to grow , BTS has to get real users . And because real users will never use a product provided by some dev without legal protection/customer support/consumer protection,  unlike real company and real product . So ...you get the idea why it is so hard for BTS to grow .

I think our definition of 'users' is different.

What you are talking about applies to every single crypto in existence. So why are 'users' not objecting to those?

because every single crypto in existence has speculative-users . Unlike real users , speculative-users would disregard the disadvantage in the user experience/stability/legal protection , only because they hold a coin and want it to be successfully .

This is the reality . Users won't come in , at least not for years . Only speculative-users would . And if you kill speculators , you'll lost the only users that you can get .

... allocate it as best as we can. ...
How?

It would create a market competition for the BEST things to fund. If people don't like where the money is going they can bid better / more work for the same money.

you mean depend on the same crew who believed merger was the best thing for BitShares to decide/bid the fittest option for BitShares ?

Your idea always sounded good in a pure speculative sensation , but in reality , things doesn't work like that . "If X then Y" works in programming language because there is only fixed outcome and fixed condition , but in reality neither X or Y is fixed .

No . it would not create a market competition for the BEST things to fund because neither you or the crew know what is best to fund . Spending money and getting return is a rare ability , that kind of ability never belongs to most people .

VCs give money to hundreds of companies , only few of them would prevail . That's how hard it is to run a business , that's how hard it is to fund something and getting return .

To the most extent , competition for bids would create the solution with the best price for a specific task , but it wouldn't be good to the business if the task wasn't helping the business to begin with .

If you can't get bunch of people to help you run a successful company , you can't depend on a bunch of people who naive enough to believe "new features would boost the market cap" to spend dilution on "the best features" in order to boost the value of BitShares either .

Once the pump finishes, people will get bored holding a hypecoin with no GUI and and smart contracts that are clearly inferior to those on BitShares. They will then start to look at the liquidity and beauty of our DEX and come flocking over. Ethereum's market cap is just a glimpse of the great times to come for BitShares.

Im bringing out my inner Stan.

lol, traders never care about GUI .
They trade on the exchanges .

I trade Bitcoin for half a year without even touching the Bitcoin wallet

It would be an awesome development for bitshares and all crypto 2.0 if Ethereum passes bitcoin.  It will break the idea that bitcoin is the only legitimate crypto currency and everything else is a "shitcoin".   Investors and developers will then start looking at other crypto projects as viable investments instead of thinking the only investment/platform has something with a direct connection to bitcoin.

Amen.

One things for sure - Poloniex is making bank! 35000 * 0.004 * 372 =~ $54k

that's petty cash for them . if they do a little side business on speculation with their born advantage (seeing all the trade data) , they could make far more than that .

... and usefulness of end product.
Tell me about it! How useful is ethereum at this stage? What meaningful smart contracts do they have? Slock.it?

BitShares was on the 3th place of coinmarketcap by a useless 1.0 wallet that even the devs admitted it was "unable to use for normal people" .   so .... no one really cares about usefulness on the market .

It's possible . But our ears would be laughed out by the bitcoin miners seeing how we were bashing them  :'( :'( :'(

Hmm....that's the news on January,2016.. Maybe everybody have forgotten that .

Yes people forget easily.  And things change easily.  And when there is basically no response from people asking questions (I know I have reached out regarding hangouts on many occasions---and I am sure you are busy, but it is impossible to blame people for speculating when there are very few responses when questions are asked).  It is just another kind of pr blunder.

So I guess I will invite you guys to join us for an hour someday and chat with the community.  If you guys want to join and explain to the community some of the stuff going on behind the scenes it would potentially not only be helpful to the community---but the PLAY project too.

So was there any press from this event where the graphene based rng was recognized as part of bitshares' technology?  Or was it labeled as something that is part of ethereum?  It is only right to give credit to the people who paid for graphene to be built...and those who actually built it (your coders among them since they seemed to have added functionality).

This was the news on BTC38 http://www.btc38.com/btc/altgeneral/9230.html  that could answer all your question even with google translation .

I would love an update about what play is planning.  I don't think they should have to do a mumble though.  Especially if none of them feel comfortable speaking english.

If btswildpig is any indication of the play devs opinion of bts, it isn't good.  he seems convinced that BM is a thief.

Regarding the "thief" question , I'm sure you must speak a different set of English than I used to . Everybody knows BM acted in the way that he thought was necessary , and I question his tactics based on how I was educated/experienced, especially in the crypto field, that his tactics are simply not possible to last for a long time  . It's nothing new though , I said it a year ago that dilution is not real money , that's my constant belief and educated guess .  I'm simple reminding this community that there are basic and fundamental principles regarding market . Start-ups don't have "secondary market" as their only income source, no matter how many attempt to get so-called "real-users" , the up and downs is and always will be decided by the secondary market and the capital in it . Because , again , unlike real company , we don't have fixed cost/fixed income department , imaging -----when BM brought 10000 users in by his magical dilution development work  ,they created 100000 USD buy pressure(highly unlikely ) , and then BM or other whale see the huge buy order coming up and sold 300000 USD worth of BTS because they want to pay tax/buy boat/whatever , is this "company" profiting or losing money ? You can't tell , could you ? That's why I said I've always said real users could not drive marketcap , because it doesn't work that way with market cap .

Sometimes I'm just too tired to repeat some basic and simple princicple regarding second market that everybody should've known a long time ago . Call me fudster for telling the common sense for all I care  [emoji14] .

And second of all , I'm just a community member regarding DACPLAY now . I have no role that could branded me their "indication" .

Thanks for clarifying btswildpig.  I really was not trying to talk trash.  I have gotten the impression that you believe that BM has set up bitshares as his personal piggy bank to be raided whenever he feels like it.  To me that would be a thief.

If instead you believe that BM has made mistakes that have hurt bitshares, but that he was not trying to rip us off then I was mistaken.

I apologize for that.

As far as not knowing if you were still, or ever involved in dacplay, the whole point of my comment was that none of us know anything about dacplay.  I am still a delegate on the dacplay chain.  Only missed 12 blocks too.  I have no idea what is going on with it though.  Should I still be spending that $20 a month to keep the server up?  I have no problem paying $20 a month to help support dacplay til the end of time, as long as it is needed and its going somewhere.

Anyways thanks for responding, and I am sorry if I mis-characterized your opinion of BM.

I don't know much about programming . But it seems to me they've been working on the old-code and graphene code at the same time .
And they've just won the Shanghai blockchain hackaton with Graphene based random number generator (10000USD reward) .

Hmm....that's the news on January,2016.. Maybe everybody have forgotten that .
That was eth based blockchain hackathon . Isn't that?

I don't think that's the case since there was a project based on Factom also won the prize . Unless Factom is another name of Ethereum .....

266
For those that don't know... Graphene does NOT have a random number generator. So they may very well just be prototyping on ethereum

http://www.blockchainlabs.org/hackathon/view.php
No.8 there is a intro of the platform , and there is a github address https://github.com/clar/graphene

maybe it's may bad english . They made a "random number generator "  that use graphene as the platform , not "a system based on Graphene's random number generator"

This was the news on BTC38 http://www.btc38.com/btc/altgeneral/9230.html  I think automatic translation could get the rough idea , or not , because there is several english word there you might be familiar with ...

well from what im hearing in the background they have moved to ethereum.  if this is untrue id hope someone from their team would tell us so.

I would be shocked if anyone from their team told you anything.  Ever.

well if it is true, ethereum just bagged a group of coders who can help them significantly in attempting to steal our tech in a way that doesnt cause any problems with intellectual property.

but i am not 100% certain. i only heard it through the grapevine.

I don't really understand . Is there  intellectual property stuff under the current licence of Graphene ? Last time I heard they gave up that demand .

I wonder why we always get overlooked in the Bitcoin media, despite being in the top 10 and top 4 coins for the longest time. Why is that? POS or something else?

I feel like we're the red headed step child. Answer that and we might get some traction

the founders of this project called bitcoin a failing business and will eventually dead . And even some of us follow the lead and does that .
what do you expect from those bitcoin people .
