You can symlink the whole directory, or just the 'chain' directory (which consumes the most space since it holds the copy of the blockchain).

I have it set up with symlinks and it's stable through upgrades (3 for me so far) and usage.

If you're unfamiliar with symlinks, this would be a good start:
Wikipedia - general on symbolic links: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symbolic_link
Windows: http://lifehacker.com/5496652/how-to-use-symlinks-in-windows
Nix + general: https://wiki.debian.org/SymLink

Or search for symbolic link / symlink / junction (older), and find what suits your context.

Thanks for help. The client is extremely slow and needs too much cpu and ram, this is beyond any discussion. Normally I use the -datadir option, this works for nearly all cryptocurrencies for portability (I have actually about 150 in use). I don't use online wallets for security reasons since 2011.

No problem  :)

It's gonna get better; already did, comparing last three updates - in my case, resource allocation halved since 0.8.2.
Remember, it's still actively developed, and ver. no. is less than 1, so give it a benefit of a doubt you would give to any other beta software.

Best way to run such hungry clients without problems is to use a cpu usage limiter for processes like "Battle Encoder Shirase" (works with Win 7), otherwise its not funny to run such software !
