General Discussion / Re: What's happening with the price?

I'm not sure how I screwed you...

By giving away my master plan!
I have been solely whaling this BTS drop with my 500+ million BTS!

If it weren't for that pesky Ander, it would have succeeded too... :(

How Ripple Rips you: "The founders of Ripple Labs created 100 billion XRP at Ripple's inception. No more can be created according to the rules of the Ripple protocol. Of the 100 billion created, 20 billion XRP were retained by the creators, seeders, venture capital companies and other founders. The remaining 80 billion were given to Ripple Labs. Ripple Labs intends to distribute and sell 55 of that 80 billion XRP to users and strategic partners. Ripple Labs also had a giveaway of under 200 million XRP (0.002% of all XRP) via World Community Grid that was later discontinued.[29] Ripple Labs will retain the remaining 25 billion"

The very very sad thing about all this is how many people I constantly watch in cryptocurrency focusing so much on the price that they forget why we got into crypto in the first place.  Instead of changing the paradigm to one that empowers everyone, they are willing to lie to others to make a quick buck---and damn those they lie to.

I was actually kicked from the Cryptocurrency Collectors Club for talking about the Ponzi nature of Nubits/Nushares while the admin pushed "the last thing we should be doing is calling out other cryptocurrencies.  We are all in this together!"  bs.  So sad.

I personally am so pumped.  Let me explain why:

-MetaExchange
-3D Printing Alliance growing
-Open Source Hardware
-DataSecurity Shares
-MoonStone
-CryptoFresh
-LimeWallet
-Nathans Wallet
-MineBitShares
-PLAY
-MUSIC
-BitSharesTV
-NullStreet Marketers
-Other DACs some are considering working on that I am not at liberty to talk about
-...and many others I am not thinking of atm.

Not so very long ago we didn't have any of these....now we are making progress.  Now if only we can stop shooting ourselves in the foot by trying to be something we are not... :)

When I see all those initiatives coming together I really get the feeling Bitshares is going to be HUGE, and I'm not talking market cap-wise, but feature-wise. When I look at market cap, the only thing it tells me is that several whales have lost faith and that some traders are riding the down trend. Is it market manipulation or a general sentiment that Bitshares isn't going anywhere? I honestly don't know.

The danger we face is if the market cap stays this low long enough, all the 100% delegates won't be able to put in as much time as they use to in Bitshares, because they'll have to work full time on other projects to pay their bills and feed their family.

If the market cap could get back up to at least $75M in a reasonable amount of time, it will at least secure a relatively decent salary to all those 100% delegates, and limit the risk of having those delegates leave their jobs for other more profitable projects. I'm sure all of them are truly dedicated to Bitshares, but everybody needs to pay their bills.

From there, I wouldn't mind if the market cap stays at the same level for a couple of years, I'm in here for the long run.

When investing, your best friend is time.

For those who bought at a higher price, dumping at the current price would almost be like selling for almost nothing a lotto ticket you already paid for only because the odds of winning the big prize "seem" to have changed. It's just a perception issue here, because the technology and innovations are there, the progress is there also.

The money and liquidity aren't there though, and it's killing us.

We are attending the Texas Bitcoin Conference in Austin on the 27 -29th of March.

Notes will be liquid by then (on the BTS blockchain) Expect news then, last week of march.

Thanks to everyone for your patience (:

I don't expect you to release any specifics that may give the competition an edge, but have you started serious discussions or did you get any big names on board yet? That's pretty much what will give the whole project value. Popular artists will drive demand for their coins and increase awareness for the whole project.

Isn't it literally impossible for the US to pay off its debt because the fed perpetually gives the treasury loans at >0% interest? I thought debt always grows and we just hope real value of dollars falls fast enough

True, cause each dollar in circulation is owed with interest to the fed. It's a simplified explanation, but each new dollar printed comes with a percentage of interest that is owed to the lender (fed). There's no way we can ever pay back completely the debt, cause we use those borrowed dollars to do interest payments.

afaik it 'rides' the feed price.

Yep, they create a wall at feed price

Another +18% today, it's now at ~$2.4 billion market cap and over half of Bitcoin if you count the full supply... Really blows my mind..

Wouldn't it be much lower than that if there wasn't a few huge whales that don't sell? (read here the devs that have the majority of XRP "available" on the market).

I mean a little buying pressure and you're through the roof in market cap if less than 10% of the coins are really in circulation (I speculate on the % value in circulation, no hard fact). And the fact is that the pump is continuous, no major correction and its up 500% this fall... I don't see regular crypto market behavior here, as there's always a correction after a steep increase in market cap...

???

Some business investment and decisions are good, others are bad. Every entrepreneur at some point has to live with a couple of bad decisions. What deal has been struck between BM and the marketing team can't just be voided, as there was probably nothing related to "if you do not deliver, than this will happen". What has been done is done, and the millions of BTS and the 100k$+ in salary paid can't be "unspent".

As some have said, let them to their job, as they don't get paid a salary by I3 anymore and they have all the incentives in the world to deliver. If they get the market cap equal to Bitcoin market cap they'll all be millionaires. If they don't, then they will lose a hell of an opportunity, as all they have to do is market an awesome product.

I understand Brian to stay away from the forum right now, as he's going to get rocks thrown at him the minute he comes here. He may not have struck any public deals, but he has made business contacts, and I wouldn't be suprised he was involved in getting the deals with some of the on/off-ramps we heard about, but that are still being set-up.

His mistake has been the lack of communication with the community and also the lack of small accomplishments that get the community reassured. What could be done though, for a start, would be for him to come over on this forum with his team and start interacting and stop being so secretive.

I don't give a damn about his deal with BM as it is what it is, but I sure want to know what is current plan is, and what are the next steps (except waiting for the 1.0 version). And knowing that, it wouldn't hurt if he got in touch with the community marketing team to work with them in order to have a better coordination between the different marketing teams. All those things would help a lot IMO, and people might stop asking for his head on a spike.

And he needs to manage his PR badly, like right now.

One day, as Billy is lounging in a perfect vacuum, he idly tosses a quarter vertically at an initial velocity of exactly 50 m/s.  As it sails through nothing in particular, he ponders what he may spend it on when it returns.

1. What is the total flight time of Billy's quarter?
2. During this time, how much value can Billy anticipate will be lost to inflation?
3. Does Billy's action constitute a futures contract?

1: 10.20 sec.
2: .0000001375 cents.  (Based on official government inflation rate).
3: No.

Why do people always assume gravity is 9.81 m/s²? In most parts of the universe it is actually quite different - especially when that part is a perfect vacuum :)

People assume it's 9.81 m/s² because everywhere you go on earth that's pretty much the acceleration you'll get from gravity. Vacuum or not.

Anywhere in the universe you'll get a different value (depending which massive stellar object is closer), you just even have to be at a couple of thousands miles from earth to get a different value. Anyway, for what it's worth, earth gravity on its surface can be measured by the force exerted on any object (acceleration * mass), with the acceleration being pretty much constant anywhere you are.

Edit: The only difference a vacuum will make compared to the normal atmosphere will be the terminal speed the object will be able to reach, and the measured acceleration of the object while falling

Thoroughly bummed. Never received any newsletter updates. Never had the chance to get in on the pre-sale. I'm heartbroken.

??? It has been advertised here in the forum as well as on CMC and several interviews were done with Eddie and Cob. You didn't hear about it in time?

General Discussion / Re: Bitcoin difficulty finally went down.
« on: December 03, 2014, 02:36:57 am »
I'm curious to know the logic linking lowering difficulty and end of the bear market?

If bitcoins are overvalued, it is better to sell bitcoins (or hold off on buying them), and instead buy mining equipment.  The result is that investment money flows into mining, not bitcoin.  This contributes to the end of the bull/start of the bear.

If bitcoins are undervalued, it is better to buy bitcoins directly, rather than buy mining equipment that will be unprofitable.  The result is that investment money flows into directly buying bitcoins, helping to end the bear/start the bull.

Got it!

thanks for the clear and concise answer, it really makes sense.

« on: December 03, 2014, 01:51:34 am »
It hasnt gone down since January 2013.  It just had a less than 1% decrease.

The only period in bitcoin's history where the difficulty had some decreases was during the 2011-2012 bear market phase, where it was very undervalued.

This might be a good sign for crypto's in general, as it could be a sign of the end of the crypto bear market.

I'm curious to know the logic linking lowering difficulty and end of the bear market?

ah thats old fashioned shark style to steal someones idea and to profit on first move, but oldschools dont know that new generation is not gonna fight with copycats, we are the community, and have our own right to give names whatever we like to our money
if we start to dig into trademark war it will bury project because all funds will be spent on lawyers, accountants, counsels etc

Anyway, I would like to see how a centralized entity can sue a blockchain.

General Discussion / Re: So What Happened To Bitshares AGS?
« on: December 02, 2014, 01:19:58 pm »
there never was ANY promise with AGS ..
every single satoshi you send there was a DONATION.. no strings attached ..

yeah sure... that's what they told us afterwards.

When I donated to AGS I knew for a fact it was with no strings attached, no promess of anything. It was written everywhere I was reading about how to donate to AGS (sorry, don't have any links, just know I read it).

Its amazing what a difference a month makes.

A month ago these boards were nothing but people being upset about the changes and fighting each other.

Now it is all these cool projects being started and positive developments.

In a few years it's going to be full of early adopters bragging about the cool mansions they bought with their new found riches.
