Addendum

It's been a joy working on this payment gateway... that's coming from someone who's
priorly implemented Robokassa, Authorize.net, and Stripe payment gateways (grudgingly).

Reflecting on my experience, many benefits come to mind:

For customers
 - TITAN allows for very friendly interfaces
 - Pegged assets like BitUSD are as intuitive as it gets
 - DPOS makes transactions fast and painless
 - Practically no need for QR codes
 - Logins (not yet implemented) simplify repeat orders

For developers
 - Interfacing with BTS client is easy
 - No need for cumbersome currency conversions if pricing in fiat
 - Writing a BTS payment gateway from scratch
was easier than implementing the Authorize.net API
 - No crazy chargeback/verification logic

For merchants
 - No chargebacks
 - Minimal collection of customer data
 - No 3rd party involved
 - Stable currency
 - Transfers are atomic and practically instant
 - Transaction fees for a $20 purchase are less than 0.1%
where 2-5% fees are the industry standard
For a $200 purchase, the fee is less than 0.01%

Needless to say, we're excited to explore the opportunities with this outlet!

Slick job on the site! Those are some great marketing points. I enjoyed being able to buy something tangible with bitGOLD and thought the checkout process was slick.

General Discussion / Re: Do we need a new logo?
« on: January 19, 2015, 02:29:34 am »
I like our logo but we all should use

bitshares   as our official name and NOT
BitShares

its the "b" that reminds as our logo...
or the logo reminds as bitshares?  .... doesn't mater!

PS just to remember you that it was Brian Page decision to use the ...B    :'(

What about Bitshares instead of BitShares? Never liked the weird capitalization and everyone ignores it anyway (for example the BitShares 101 book didn't capitalize it correctly a single time IIRC).

 +5%

It feels awkward to capitalize the "S".

Technical Support / Re: Having difficulty registering?
« on: January 18, 2015, 09:48:49 am »
Hello, still trying to get this rolling. I launched the Bitshares client on my Mac, pasted my username and key into the faucet, used my reddit account to validate it, then was taken to the "congrats" screen that suggested I post something via twitter or facebook, "to add funds." ? I didn't do either, and simply went back into the client on my computer. But it still says that my account is not registered with the blockchain?  :( Is there a delay or did I miss something?

Thanks.

You can use the faucet directly from the account registration prompt in the client. Can you try doing it again that way to see if it registers you?

Are you building the master branch or the latest released version? You should checkout the tag:

Code: [Select]
git checkout bts/0.5.0
Don't forget to init and/or update the submodules in git as well before you make.

Code: [Select]
git submodule init
git submodule update

Technical Support / Re: New 0.5 version bug

Please post an issue on github if one hasn't been created. Core devs will be more likely to see it this way.

prestashop plugin done

You're on a rampage, tearing through these shopping cart integrations!

Let's vote dev.sidhujag back into the top 101! Currently at 108.

Mobile devices will more than likely all be light clients instead of full nodes which store the entire blockchain due to the size. The bandwidth requirements probably wouldn't make the cut on a mobile device when the network is at scale either.

cn-members also mentioned on nullstreet that the title could be construed as misleading because NXT and I believe XCP had a decentralized exchange before BTS. The difference is that the exchanges preceeding BTS were only in the business of handling user issued assets. BTS is the first market issued asset exchange, so perhaps the title of the article should be changed to describe that.

"The Worlds First Decentralized Exchange Without Counterparty Risk"

Nice trick. Thanks for sharing.

Technical Support / Re: BitBTC advantages over Bitcoin
« on: January 07, 2015, 05:44:09 am »
Yield and 10 seconds to send your bitBTC as opposed to 10 minutes. Also the ability to trade bitBTC against other market issued assets. A future feature is planned to allow you to short any asset against any other market issued asset so you could use bitBTC to back your short orders when that is implemented.

In theory the price should track vanilla BTCs price fairly close. So you will still be exposed to the volatility of BTC.

One downside is the market isn't very liquid atm, but when some of the gateway projects are finished this should improve.

General Discussion / Re: How to Register a BitShares Account [BLOG POST]
« on: January 03, 2015, 02:01:47 am »
http://bytemaster.bitshares.org/tutorial/2015/01/03/How-to-Register-a-BitShares-Account/

In this post I demonstrate the new faucet built into the client.   Please help review the tutorial for improved clarity.

Nice post for beginners. Just curious have you considered integrating a comment section to your blog? Might be a good way to facilitate some additional discussion for readers that wouldn't bring it here to the forums because they lack an account or haven't been exposed to bitshares yet. Maybe not for this post necessarily but for some of the other more philosophical ones. Just a suggestion; the clean look and feel of it currently also has its merits.

General Discussion / Re: Year End Developer Bonuses
« on: January 01, 2015, 12:27:41 am »
As somebody who likes to read new commits to the repo I got to say that the BTS team works their asses off! You guys definitely deserve it. Good work BTS team, for going live with the project in 2014 and then elegantly bootstrapping it via crowdfunding and equity.

And with that, a large amount of stake has now become further distributed.  +5% for boosting trust in the network going into 2015.

Stakeholder Proposals / Re: New Delegates: Zach Lym Trial Week
« on: December 31, 2014, 11:30:06 pm »
Bump. Need 0.3% more. Or just vote out some inits...

Voted! And I agree that some of the inits should probably get the boot now. dev0.theoretical is in the 101 spot and will be kicked out if the trial delegate is made active.
