General Discussion / Re: Here we go again....4.9 version not working....

Mac crashes though.

It would really help if you could provide a stack trace from the crash reporter:

On the OSX Terminal:
Code: [Select]
defaults write com.apple.CrashReporter DialogType Developer

Still having issues with mac (crashed again while re-syncing block chain).  Can someone walk me step by step what I need to access a stack trace? (i.e. I'm not a dev, like not even kind of close)

Check this thread reply #113, hopefully this solution will work for you:

General Discussion / Re: Main obstacle BTSX faces at current stage
« on: September 01, 2014, 02:11:00 pm »
This is not good.

I dont want to put a bad message here. But we've expected more than this. I tried all versions from the beginning on difference machines but they are not stable enough. It crashed every version i tried then I need to have the clean up process on my machine, have to do many technical steps to make the wallet work. We are be-hide on the road of the dev progress vs. nxt on their stable client and good asset exchange GUI. 6 months from the 2/28 but still in beta-and-crashed version. This is not the way to make the billion $ and not the answer the the billion question $ like bitshares Q&A page. Thinking about sell all my btsx out for now :(

Interested in buying.  Let me know how much you'd like to sell.

General Discussion / Re: Was TITAN a bad idea (terribly timed feature)?
« on: September 01, 2014, 02:04:58 pm »
TITAN is great...
But it would be awesome if somebody could choose some accounts to work without it somehow with a button for example right to the account...
So the user could choose which account are "hidden" and which not ...

2 in 1...

Sorry but I think that is terrible idea.  You can imagine that in the future government could force payment gateways to only deal with BTSX account which are not using TITAN.

If you take away the ability for people to choose, they will just move up a layer, and refuse to use that entire type of crypto currency which uses anything like Titan.

It will always come back to hurt you when you do anything to destroy something someone else wants.  It will always come back by someone else trying to destroy what you want, one way or another.  The only way is to find out what everyone wants, and find creative ways to get all of it for everyone.  Only then, will it not come back to byte you, by someone else trying to destroy what you want.
Hi Brent.Allsop,

I think it will be very hard to get all of it for everyone. :)
With BTSX, will be either privacy for everyone or transparency for everyone. Just look at BTC, it is nearly impossible to get more privacy in the code now. In the perfect world I agree we could have a choice, but this is the world  where governments would use this option to force everybody to be transparent so they would know everything about everybody.
We have example of this already with so called tainted bitcoins. I am personally for 100% privacy for private individuals and 100% transparency for the governments and all public bodies. Governments spend our money therefore need for transparency, but not for us as we do not spend others people money. Maybe one day we will have fork of BTSX without TITAN if there is enough demand for it. For me I say more TITAN and more privacy for individuals.

Respectfully
aloha  :)

LOL if you think 100 delegates couldn't be tracked down, extorted and/or bribed to comply with their demands.

It's not about extorting the 101 delegates they must extort everyone that has the power to vote delegates in (or out).....the entire network.   Remember delegates can be voted out instantly.

Dear yiminih,

Working together and helping each other is very rewarding experience and I would recommend it that you should give it a go. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Surely bitUSD is a safe haven for any perceived future drop in BTSX. While BTSX rises perhaps it'll be tempting not to buy bitUSD but to short it? So, between those two, you have a draw into bitUSD.

I'm not sure whether you need to control the market as much as sell the idea of it. I wonder there needs to be some ELI5 descriptions for those of us with less experience of financial markets; and those of us who've drunk too much beer :p

If ever there is a prospect of bitUSD being widely available on exchanges and used in the real world, it seems very likely it'll find its market. USD is an imposed consensus; bitUSD is a distributed consensus and as such it's not bitUSD==USD but the peg and the utility and the idea of bitXYZ acknowledging real world assets is a powerful one. Just add time.. not rules.

Quote this:

The only way BitUSD will be used as a safe haven is if information flow and market signalling is improved. People make rational decisions only when they receive timely information otherwise it's just gambling.

BitUSD is best used when you have accurate pertinent information about a market disrupting event which is about to occur. A spike in the purchasing of BitUSD may be a statistical indicator that something has happened which will result in a crash in the price. If Mt Gox gets hacked, if the Bitcoin ETF is about to open, if big whale investors are about to enter the market, all of that influences whether or not people should buy BitUSD because it's a prediction market.

Information right now doesn't flow very well. It's hidden in the forums, in the Mumble meetings, etc. This lack of information flow causes a delay in people purchasing BitUSD, and it is partially why people don't value BitUSD yet. It's going to take a dramatically more interconnected and efficient information flow to create a true information market.

On the whole the network is stronger with fewer shorts and more guarantees for BitUSD holders.
On the whole the network is stronger with fewer rules and more free market action.

Allowing someone to Short BTSX backed by BitUSD would be an interesting experiment for a future chain.  It would certainly create buying pressure on cheap BitUSD.

Price feeds are something I would prefer to avoid all together.   Average prices are something I would prefer to remove all together.

So this discussion is mostly focused on "how do we make a peg work in a thin market".

I am no expert on financial markets, but I think that the big benefit of BITUSD is that is closely mimics US Dollars (which is not exactly a totally free market instrument)   on the block chain and thus allows big players.....(corporations and the like) to have the option to leave funds (profits) in the system without risk.  This avoids them rushing to cash out as in the current process using Bitpay.  That being the case,  whatever the solution,  it should allow for a very tight correlation to the US Dollar.   I think a 90% guarantee is still too much of a variance assuming we are talking about hundreds of thousands/ millions of USD in value.    I don't know, but maybe separate assets should be created to achive the various objectives of BitUSD(?)

Just my 2 cents.

General Discussion / Re: 0.4.10 Testers Wanted

How long should 4.10 take to sync?

I am running OSX 10.9.4    I've been stuck at - last block sync 4 days 7 hours for the last 3 hours now.  I am showing only between 3 and 6 network connections and intermittent loss of connection about every 30 sec.   BitsharesX version 4.9 worked perfectly.

Thanks

Try this comand in console mode

Code: [Select]
network_add_node "188.226.195.137:60696" add

Thanks.  What I did was to force quit out of the app, relaunch and choose the "Reset Database" option from the popup error message.   So now it is re-syncing the entire database but seems to be working correctly...( 30min syncing and im about 1/2 way through).

Bingo! This worked. For anyone using OSX, open activity monitor and force quit the bitsharesx app. You'll get the "reset database" prompt that way. Is there a console command for resetting the database?

I noticed after the app is synced that the "from" TITAN  (word/icon) address is missing.  I was able to resent this instantly by importing my .JSON file backup.

If you all want this market to function the way it's supposed to, someone needs to start creating video tutorials on how to use the BitSharesX app and explaining the basics of trading. I guarantee you there are a bunch of people just like me who have no idea what they're doing so we don't bother using the exchange to its full potential. For example, I would like to know (in plain english) when I should convert to bitUSD, when would be a good time to short a bitAsset, etc. There is so much I would like to know but have no idea where to start learning.

Anyone else feel the same way?

Incase you missed it, check out this site, it may help: http://nullstreet.com

guess this is MeTHoDx site, isn't it? ;)

Opps, yeah you're right! ... Feed back loop!  :)

Yes, that would be great to find some instruction on the trading engine also.
