it was not the ath and market is still not liquid, but what do you think about this? $1337/btc. Might not be relevant, price range will probably narrow down but it's pretty interesting seeing someone bidding that high for btc

General Discussion / BitShares Timeline?
« on: May 04, 2015, 11:28:40 pm »
How difficult would it be to make something like this? http://www.tiki-toki.com/timeline/entry/428388/The-official-Viacoin-timeline/

I'm guessing some html, css and js could do it? I'm in the process of learning it so I don't have the needed skills yet.

Do you think this would give a new user a good perspective of what BitShares has achieved and will achieve in the future?

edit: it seems they used this http://www.tiki-toki.com/

So I decided to get in contact with CoinGateway to add bitAssets.

"The coin I would like to be reviewed is BitShares' bitasset, bitUSD, since it's stable and pegged to the usd (Along with bitCNY, bitEUR, etc). I think it could bring stability to merchants without the need to cash out bitcoin for fiat. Instead, money would still continue within the crypto-sphere.

Is that fee you mention only to list the coin or also to review it?

Thanks"

Their reply,

"Hi,

We have already considered accepting BitShares but no one had got back to us, BitShares definitely qualifies for listing along with BitAsset/BitUSD. The fee would be for listing only yes, the initial review is free."

Would someone help me and also get in touch with them. Show that we're interested. I'm not the most technical guy so if they need more technical information I would really appreciate for someone with the skills to take over. I know this is not a priority right now, getting bitAssets to merchants, however that doesn't mean we can take the luxury of letting opportunities go away.

I currently asked what's the next step for them to add BitShares to their service. I know we need to pay a fee to get there, but i don't know the procedure, what's the next step.

Thanks.

General Discussion / Lending DApp
« on: May 01, 2015, 08:40:47 pm »
Found this whitepaper https://s3.amazonaws.com/loancoin/whitepaper.pdf

Lending DApp is a global, decentralized crowdlending network that runs on the blockchain. The network’s “gas” is LoanCoin, an asset-backed,
income-producing cryptocurrency. The network can provide loans in almost any currency, anywhere in the world, while significantly compressing
opex (leading to lower rates for borrowers and higher yields for investors). From a coinholder’s perspective, LoanCoin is similar to a savings ac-
count (without FDIC insurance), but with a higher yield, no minimum balance, greater transparency via the blockchain, and all the benefits of
bitcoin, such as peer-to-peer transfer, privacy, globalness, etc. A centralized prototype of LoanCoin is currently running on top of Counterparty.

We are acting as the sole loan officer and investing on
BTCJam, a third-party peer-to-peer lending platform

General Discussion / Are Bitassets Actually Useful?
« on: April 21, 2015, 09:00:07 pm »
http://www.miningpool.co.uk/are-bitassets-actually-useful/

~2 months old so i dunno if it has been posted already. If not, i thought it would be worth sharing. Paul Sztorc's (Truthcoin creator) opinion on bitassets.

"Sztorc has continually pointed out that bitUSD should only be used as a long term store of value. While he’s also explained that BitPay, Bitreserve, and many other businesses can also be used to avoid bitcoin’s volatility, Ethereum Creator Vitalik Buterin pointed out that those entry and exit points usually come with added costs. As a final note, Sztorc was able to describe a scenario which would render the bitUSD completely obsolete:"

“To fully kill the bitUSD? A private, cellphone-accessible, Swiss bank account that accepted Bitpay — [as in, BTC to USD] — deposits.”

Random Discussion / Blockchain is Vulnerable?

"They successfully demonstrated how arbitrary data can be injected into a digital currency decentralized database simply by using an exploit code that opens a notepad enabling corrupted data to be inserted into the Blockchain."

General Discussion / Tor & Crowdfunding?
« on: April 02, 2015, 11:34:53 pm »
So I remember the Dark Markets initiative, some members liked it, others didn't. I found this article https://blog.torproject.org/blog/tor-weekly-news-%E2%80%94-april-1st-2015 which mentions some crowdfunding

"Crowdsourcing the future (of onion services)

Onion (or hidden) services are web (or other) services hosted in the Tor network that have anonymity, authentication, and confidentiality built in. As George Kadianakis writes, “anything you can build on the Internet, you can build on hidden services — but they’re better”. A major task for the Tor community in the near future is making these important tools more widely available, and usable by groups who urgently need them, so George took to the Tor blog to solicit ideas for future onion service-related projects that could form the basis for a crowdfunding campaign. “Long story short, we are looking for feedback! What hidden services projects would you like to see us crowdfund? How do you use hidden services; what makes them important to you? How you want to see them evolve?…Also, we are curious about which crowdfunding platforms you prefer and why.”

See the full post for an introduction to onion services, why they matter, why a crowdfunding campaign makes sense, and how to join in with your own ideas."

Now this could be the perfect way of marketing BitShares to deepweb without directly marketing to darmarkets  :)

General Discussion / OKLink pegging service
« on: March 25, 2015, 01:38:01 pm »
" OKLink will also offer a pegging service to eliminate bitcoin price volatility."

http://bitcoinist.net/okcoin-expand-bitcoin-adoption/

OKcoin doesn't trade bts so highly unlikely they would use our bitAssets. They are trying to create a brand and i seriously doubt they would use them but i guess it's always worth contacting. People like to reinvent the wheel :b

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2zrdxz/withdrawals_halted_as_stolen_evolution_coins_make/

Apparently some of the coins the devs stole from their own market (Evolution) which should go around 12M$ are arriving to BTC-E and this exchange decided to halt withdrawals. I found this link on reddit and I must say the discussion is pretty interesting.
.
Is it far for btc-e to take those actions without user's consent? At the same time we're in a free market and they should have the liberty to do it. What do you think?

Also, do you think BitShares could make a difference in this kind of situations? If so, how? Imo, it could, not only by being a decentralized exchange, but also through vote (once it's finished though it should take a while).

Bitcoin is awesome because of all the potential of the blockchain being a public ledger, but at the same time it can have its own disadvantages as someone could know what you do. What's your opinion on this?  :)
