Title: HALP! Wallet out of Sync
Post by: fav on November 20, 2013, 06:42:42 am
Calm down, here's your fix:

Reliable cloud based node, maxconnections=2000, currently connected 820:
Code: [Select]
168.63.12.227

For everybody behind crazy firewalls:
Code: [Select]
168.63.12.227:80

Using command:
Code: [Select]
protoshares-qt.exe -addnode=168.63.12.227:80
or
protoshares-qt.exe -connect=168.63.12.227:80

From console (Help -> Debug -> Console):
Code: [Select]
addnode 168.63.12.227:80 add

Nodes to use:

94.23.215.174

168.63.12.227

Yes, 168.63.12.227 has problem, it's doesn't crashes, some times wallet stop getting the new blocks from the network and become unsync.
Now 168.63.12.227 back to sync.

Hello, I just downloaded and installed my wallet. Not connecting / says zero active connections. Are these the IP addresses I need to fix that? If so where exactly do I enter this information? under proxy? If it is the debug file--where exactly in the debug file do I enter this info. I just want to connect to the network. Please help!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you.

WOW, thanks for the link but does anyone know how to uninstall the old protoshares on windows8?  It doesnt even show up in the control panel under uninstall programs.  Im asking because I do not want conflicting problems running two versions of protoshares.  I mean, I just downloaded the client.  Got PTS on an exchange and I cant even secure it tonight.  How sad...

Doesnt do nothing...could it be the old PTS client isnt uninstalled?  How does one uninstall it?  BTW, I clicked on your link and ran it but windows8 doesnt want to open it?  I would love to mine too.

We tested last couple of nights. The correction I was giving to fix this problem failed after a pathetic few minutes of having 1 active connection.  That was officially strike two. We look at the complaints by other users and decide if they merit a start at strike one and they did. You were warned very clearly that this is a serious matter and you are being given a random consumer inspection. We see other people still having the same problem. Last chance to save Protoshares/Bitshares reputation. How do people clearly fix this problem at connect? The pattern here is that you insider group is mining while others are delayed after your claims of being fair to enrich yourselves.... We will try to stop that.

Mr. Bytemaster, if you really wanted to help people why didn't you tell them that the new wallet will not work if they do not search for and delete the current wallet.dat file? We have a programmer on staff otherwise no way I would have known that --causing more delays delays delays. It does not go away even if you uninstall the original software and will prevent new wallet from opening.

Title: Re: HALP! Wallet out of Sync

New wallet is synching finally, but mining options are removed. Are people to assume that the mining is built in now and automatic?? If so, why take away the 1, 2, or 3 thread option from people? Please explain. We would like the file for version 1 of the wallet so we can compare all three versions for the sake of transparency. Thank you.

Mr. Bytemaster, wallet finally synching with new/version 3 wallet, but mining options removed. Are people to assume that this is built in and happening automatically? If so, why take away the 1, 2, or 3 thread option from people? Please explain. We are concerned about your version 2 wallet and would like to compare the different versions of the wallets to better understand what happened.

We removed solo mining because it could take over a month to find anything.

Unless I'm missing something, the files in that archive have the same sizes and modification dates as the files in protoshares-0.2.0.zip. Maybe you made a mistake?

There are many threads on this forum.  The problem with connection is something we are looking into as our own friends and family have experienced it.    We have a seed node hard coded into every client that should support 2000 connections and is currently reporting just 355 connections.  Clearly our seed node is not overloaded.  We did not modify the Bitcoin-Qt networking code.   It seems like if you follow the instructions and add some nodes posted in the forum you can connect.

There is no insider group, learn about the pools that have been in operation since the first week.

Let me clarify how I managed to set up my wallet for all the new people like me who couldn't synch to the network. It will only work if your proto wallet is entirely empty. I installed the protoshare wallet given on the home page. Then I went to C:\Users\admin\AppData\Roaming\ProtoShares and deleted my wallet.dat file. Then I installed the new wallet provided in this thread by bytemaster. After you download the new wallet, it will give you a new wallet.dat. Open your protoshares wallet, and type these into the command console one at a time
addnode 168.63.12.227:80 add
addnode 168.63.12.227:80 onetry
addnode 94.23.215.174 add
addnode 94.23.215.174 onetry
viola, I am now synchronized.

I would backup the wallet.dat file rather than delete it.  Just rename it.

Bitcoin qt is far more buggy than seems reasonable.   We will look into better solutions.

It's because there are too many people that have incoming connections disabled or firewalled

use 5.9.24.81, it has 300 openings

also, re: 2000 connections, the source doesn't use epoll, so if you got to over 1000 connections I assume your client would crash

No response in 3 days? No resolution in over a week? New wallet still not mining. Please advise. We have been really patient while you mine thousands of protoshares. This looks really terrible. Basically only you and the initial group are allowed to mine protoshares it seems. Why were the mining options removed from the new wallet? If you cannot get people mining quickly we will also contact the attorney generals office because this is contradicts your claims.

Boggle.  Seems like 1/2 the posts in here are about this same problem, yet people ignore the answers

The DNS seed nodes that the protoshares client uses are crap, so you have to use addnode.

either do it in your .conf file, addnode=xx.xx.xx.xx

or do it from command line, protoshares addnode xx.xx.xx.xx onetry and protoshares addnode xx.xx.xx.xx add

or do it from the -qt client from the terminal window, addnode xx.xx.xx.xx onetry and addnode xx.xx.xx.xx add

the real problem is that too many people don't allow incoming connections, thus there is a shortage of nodes that have open slots for incoming connections

reason for new wallet not mining was stated above.  use a pool

I have the Protoshares wallet v0.8.5.0-unk-beta running
and using your console entries it is now synching.
However I am wondering If I should still install the New wallet .zip you posted?
and if so...  (if answer is YES)
then  i echo another user who states they cannot find a way to UN-INSTALL the first version.
I see it no where.
Any suggestions?
ALSO... PLEASE find a NEW CAPTCHA version...
this one REALLY is difficult even when listening...

thanks

Forestearth:  I had the same problem.  Your issue I believe has been answered - you may be encountering a different issue because
I simply followed the "answer" to your problem which is listed here multiple times.  I seems to have worked.
navigate to the help - tab then choose debug window
then choose console
and in the text window at the bottom type the following lines one at a time followed by enter:
addnode 168.63.12.227:80 add
addnode 168.63.12.227:80 onetry
addnode 94.23.215.174 add
addnode 94.23.215.174 onetry
After that go to the mining option and choose your mining option.  The miner should now show up in color
and hovering over it will let you know the connections and collision rate.
cheers  (i still have to try multiple times to get through this site's captcha which is very difficult to read OR hear...)
thanks

Apparently my seed node would 'hang' and stop accepting connections.   I created a script that would automatically 'reset' the seed node once per hour and since then the network history graphs have shown a significant increase in bandwidth.  I assume this means many more people are being able to sync via this seed node.

As mentioned in my thread, I added the nodes from http://altcoins.com/protoshares-pts-mining-guide.html (http://altcoins.com/protoshares-pts-mining-guide.html) and have an active connection. So I'm going to assume the nodes from this forum are full/stopped working.

Anyone with problems connecting should try those nodes.

EDIT: These are no longer working for me.

Sorry to sound naive, but i added all of the nodes in this thread and i'm still not in sync.

After I downloaded the wallet, I didn't realize it wasn't in sync and withdrew my funds to my Bitshares-PTS address. They're now out of my bter account but obviously not showing in my wallet since it's out of sync.

Have I lost these forever? That would suck pretty bad.

As long as you have the wallet.dat file, your funds are safe... just make some backups of your wallet in case something goes wrong...

You can try this node if you have't tried it yet, in my case it helped me synch my wallet yesterday.
addnode cryptoseed.cloudapp.net add

or

go to the properties of the shortcut that starts your  bitshares wallet and edit the "target" field

"(or something like that)bitshares.exe" -connect=cryptoseed.cloudapp.net:80

the problem is the funds were never in the wallet. so not sure if having the wallet.dat file will help

im on a mac, not sure how to edit the target field, but I did just put in that last address you mentioned. hopefully it works.

AFAIK The moment you sent a transaction from one address to another, the whole network "knows" that the funds now belong to the new address. The wallet.dat just proves that this specific address is yours to claim the funds, there is no need for the wallet to synchronize, as long as you control your wallet file(wallet.dat) the funds are yours.

Just remember to make a new backup of your wallet.dat from time to time if you have lots of incoming transactions in your wallet, every backup wallet can "restore" up to 100 incoming transactions, so if you made a backup today and by the end of month you had more than 100 incoming transactions, your backup wallet will be able to restore only the first 100. (thats what was happening with bitcoin, I'm not 100% sure if this also aplies to PTS)

Awesome thank you.

So i copied my wallet.dat file to my desktop deleted all of the other files associated to protoshare and re-installed another dowload of it. I then put the original wallet.dat file into the newly created folder. My original address is back in there!

Now i just have to get this damn thing to sync! None of the nodes in here have worked for me. I'm at a loss.
