Title: :-[ Help! Did I lose my bitshares? [solved]
Post by: nvasilakes on May 20, 2017, 03:19:22 pm
New to BTS... I created a wallet offline using Jshares (here (http://https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=17114.0)) and sent some BTS to the public address. It didn't seem to work so I created another one and sent more BTS to that public address.
Now I'm reading about 2.0 and thinking I may have lost my coins by sending stuff to the old system. I tried importing the private address into a new bitshares wallet created with the web wallet, but it says that address has zero assets.

So I have 2 private keys that should have 500 bts each. Can I retrieve them somehow?? Thanks

Are you trying to sell some old bts shares from 2+ years ago?

Or have you just bought some bts and want to transfer them to your personal wallet, out from an exchange?

I bought some shares on Poloniex a few days ago and transferred them out of the exchange into the wallet I created with jshares.

Could you link to the website that you used for jshares?
I'd just like to read the instructions given there.
I'm sure your coins are fine, but it's useful to know what information you have read that has made it confusing for you, a new bitshares investor :)

@xeroc @fluxer555

These guys might be able to give you a hand.
Did poloniex say that they sent the transaction to the public key you gave them?

EDIT:
It seems you have used outdated information relating to BitShares 1.0, which ceased to exist and became BitShares 2.0 in 2015.

The public/private keypair technology is identical, so your keys should still be valid.
The problem is that BTS 2.0 doesn't use public addresses in the same way. All keys are tied to "accounts" which allows users to spend and receive to a simple unique username.

I'm sure there is a coding, technical way to sort you out, but I don't understand it well enough

There is a big BitShares event coming up soon, so many more technically expert users may be busy. But somebody should be able help you out soon
Sit tight, it might take a week or so but I think you should have your coins.
If you wanted someone to help you faster, you may consider offering a bounty. A % reward for helping you get your bts back.

Good luck

Problem solved!! I logged back in to find the withdrawal history and it is now showing as invalid withdrawal and my bts are back in my account.  All is well, thanks!
