Quote from: fuzzy on January 25, 2016, 10:26:14 am*Update* Mike Hearn has responded to my email. Thanks, btw, @CLains for sending a second one--it really cannot be understated just how important it is that even one other person supported this--it very well might have made us stick out from the crowd and I applaud CLains for being the only one to have the inner drive to send such a supportive message. With that said, though Mike declined at this time for the seeming reason that he didn't want to cause more waves than he already had. However, we now have a direct link to contact him that we know works. Also, we have him remembering the concept of "beyond bitcoin" just from seeing the email that he responded to. In the future, these things give us a higher chance of bringing him onboard. I responded to him telling him we greatly appreciate his bravery in bringing up topics we have largely felt outcasted for bringing up in the past and told him we understand how it feels to try to tell the truth to the community...not to hurt, but to help. With this said, however, if you donated to this and would like to sell back your COPPERTICKET and SILVERTICKET please feel free to send them back for a full redemption of BTS. If you do not redeem them, I will likely use them as a growing pool of carrots with which to bring other High Profile individuals on to speak with us. As always, thanks for trusting me and thank you for the privilege of serving a community of core individuals who really do care about liberating tech.If this can be done via this thread to help provide easy transparency, please do so. If not, please post the link along with the amount you are sending back. I like the carrot pool idea.. also, I sent some BTS but don't think I got a ticket https://cryptofresh.com/b/2867237

I will send you 2,000 later today.Regarding the list I would like also Andreas Antonopoulos. He has done an extremely good job helping Bitcoin in many ways, however he is too bitcoin centric, everything other than bitcoin isn't good for him. He sees bitcoin in a pedestal and doesn't accept the idea of any other cryptos. At least that's my opinion of what I've seen of him. It's either bitcoin or nothing.@Akado that is why it would be interesting to have him in a hangout. It would be a debate. There is no purpose doing hangouts with external parties that agree that bitshares is better than bitcoin. We should want to have debates with bitcoin enthusiasts and convince them why bitshares is better. @fuzzy just to let you know that if you have sent me any copper or silvercoin nothing has gone through.I agree but my opinion about him is you might try to justify with all the rational arguments and facts that he will just continue to say no, just because. He has done some pretty bold statements in the past that I was pretty amazed to see from someone like him. I don't remember about what though, maybe PoW vs PoS? Can't remember for sure. I remember one comparison with a metaphor about cars and wheels? I don't remember if it was that one but it was something that atm made zero sense to me.Still, I might be wrong. I'd welcome him or anyone else of course, as long as they actually debate stuff instead of just saying: no this won't work, btc is better.I think one awesome theme to any of those guys would be Governance. How Bitcoin governance may seem to have some problems and has involved coercion and corruption (assuming Mike Hearns arguments are true). How BitShares aims to solve that. What other solutions should bitcoin or us consider, etc. Or how could BItsahres and bitcoin help each other mutually

Can I upgrade my copper ticket to silver by adding 1000?
I will be giving 1 SilverTicket for each 1000BTS donated. SilverTickets are my way of giving a little extra to those who sacrifice for our community and as such will be used to enter special events. Naturally, this event with Mike Hearn, if we can get him on...would be one such event.

@fuzzyI don't see coppertickets on any of my accounts :xCould you check pls? I sent 1000 BTS with sharebits. Rise..
I think inviting Mike Hearn for a hangout is a very good idea!@fuzzy . People donating bts will receive copper and silver tickets from you, but are you going to keep those bts donations for yourself or those bts will be given to Mike Hearn for accepting an interview?Edit:@fuzzy sorry just read the OP again and clearly those bts will be given to Mike. What if he never responds to emails and he doesn't accept the invitation? Should I assume that you will keep those bts for the future for inviting someone else special?

Initially I thought it might be good to get Hearn on the BBC show, from the standpoint he is controversial and it might attract attention to BitShares and allow us to highlight our solutions to various problems in the Bitcoin ecosystem. Our pro regulation features might be interesting to him and stimulate his interest in coming on.
Quote from: aloha on January 16, 2016, 10:20:59 amI watched his presentation in London around 2013 sometimes when he was just in transition from Google to Circle. He was than promoting blacklisting of coins which did not receive very good reaction from some of the audience. I think if we invite him we are just giving another reason to Bitcoin community to dislike us. Also it may give him a free paid shot to criticize another competitor to "Bankcoin".I applaud the initiative here, but I think the speaker "disgruntled competitor" should be left to speak at the next Fed meeting instead.I'd rather pay Jim Willie (or someone like him) to come back on, but he's actually cool enough to come on for free.If you do get Mike Hearn into a Mumble session, I sure hope you're ready to be muting others ... a lot. ... sent with love.

Is this a joke?I cannot agree more with you.Quote from: merivercap on January 16, 2016, 06:06:32 amI think any news is good bad news if you get Hearn on... but I also think it's better to reach out to the other side as well. I think it's more important to get the broader Bitcoin community on board with Bitshares than create more divisiveness. Hearn is already an outcast and even more so now. Mike is working for R3 and the timing of his post with NYT article cast suspicions on his agenda. If he has become an outcast with the bitcoin community, inviting him at this sensitive time is inviting bitcoiners' enmity.

He would want to start his own project and have it be his idea. If you talk to him, you might want to frame it in terms of the overall potential + the areas where this ecosystem would benefit from new businesses/layers/solutions.But we would not be asking him to "join the BitShares team". We would be asking him to accept a PAID invitation to do a presentation and Q&A in Mumble at a specific time, and we could advertise the shit out of it far and wide.I'm all in favor of it. But inevitably, these shows end up trying to find common ground with the guest. I know the shows are supposed to be wide-ranging, but it's basically a BitShares crowd, and so in the end, is this person going to have any overlap with our project or not?

I would like to start a discussion and brainstorming session on the topic of ............I don't have any particular opinion on what we should talk about. I'm aware of the arguments for and against such a scheme. I'm interested in new insights or thoughts.......I think this is a topic on which the Foundation should eventually arrive at a coherent policy for. Of course I know that won't be easy.
There is some bad blood already:https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/413pwp/mike_hearns_latest_blog_post_was_a_strategic_move/Stupid r/bitcoin ..full of [fill in an appropriate term]
Sounds like a good idea .. to approach him, we need something like an open letter that touches the right buttons and makes him curious to try it out .. I'll try to write a short draft for this next week ... unless someone else can do it faster ..
Nice idea. But can't you just stick with BTS or at least with your Brownie Points? I'm not sure we need more UIAs with questionable value floating around.
