great idea, btsx will not succeed unless you do this. it does not matter how good btsx is if people don't know about it. this should have been done long ago but requires lots of time debating some very smart people mixed with lots of trolls. you need people over there who really know what they are talking about and can clearly yet technically explain why btsx is better than the competition.

I just really like 12.04 so far it's been great to me (other than this hiccup), and it's still supported until 2017.of course my bad upgrade experiences are from the days when the ubuntu versions were still single digits. maybe it's gotten better.I've been halfass trying to get it to work in a virtualbox too (but haven't been trying as hard because I dislike that solution)-- haven't implemented the tips in the second topic linked below yet though, but my gut tells me it'd work if I went and did that, but I'm not in a giant hurry until BTER allows withdrawals anyway.https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=5770I gave it another crack last night, using some of the instructions I discovered in this thread, and now its giving me a different error and not even letting the compile start anymore. something about qt5 not finding curses... I could probably reproduce that for you if you want, but I'd need a few minutes.i dont wanna upgrade and dont wanna use a virtualbox, so maybe I deserve this and should stop whining EDIT: also I was just using "cmake ." so when I got it to start compiling it probably wasn't even thinking about the qt wallet. when qt5 barked about curses was the first time I tried compiling it with DINCLUDE_QT_WALLET=on flag
What distro are you on, and where is it failing?

I change operating systems quite often. I never customize things more than absolutely necessary. I know you want to stay away from virtualbox, but if you can be swayed I got the wallet working in a great little distro called whonix. It's actually two virtual machines and it routes everything through tor in a very interesting way.Edit. I Kinda want to run that in a virtual box running inside of a freebsd box. Just cause I'm a nerd.

You're already on Linux, you really should just build it yourself. I know I'm on the up and up, but you couldn't know that. Anyways if you want it https://www.dropbox.com/s/p5bc0odmwg82upj/BitSharesX?n=58282092

Yeah I really think this is a great idea. I was a bit frustrated with marketing earlier today, given BTSX trading so much below donating price, but everything you want for marketing is actually there. I think Brian & others have done a great job. BitShares-X.info is looking ice cool. Great videos, Good Youtube & Facebook. Hugely popular forum. BitShares.org and DACsunlimited also good. This is the only thing we missed, which is what everyone else does, is making the effort to create that presence on BTT. (& perhaps Reddit too.) So making the effort to specifically divert traffic there is important. What do people think about doing a '(BTSX) BitShares X - Official Thread' as the main one started by one of the devs? (That seems to be the kind of format guys like NXT for example use.) What other threads should there be? Also do people think we should be on alternate cryptocurrencies https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=67.0 or Alternate Cryptocurrencies sub section announcements https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=159.0To me it makes sense to be on the first, but the announcement one does seem to move at a mile a minute, so much traffic there.
Is it possible to attempt an automatic synchronization?
.. gonna participate
lol this is a terrible idea, any time you try to onboard people by "taking over" something that is theirs and not yours is probably not going to net you the result you want. Also, it looks REALLY bad that you are the one suggesting this bad idea.Seriously.

I think there's a fine between trying to bring some of the discussion over there, and outright spamming them with our propaganda.I approve of the first idea, which is what I think bytemaster is aiming at, and disapprove of the second. It's a credit that this community is big enough to sustain discussion on it's own, but it also isolates us from the rest of the world.I mean the "Alternative Cryptocurrency" sub-forums exists. We should use it.EDIT: rereading the OP, I take that back. I think it would be a better idea only to move a few of the important discussions over there.

I'm SUPER busy for a few days but can look into it (or can help those that want to do it).
