General Discussion / Re: NuBits is a Ponzi [BLOG POST]
« on: January 13, 2015, 05:59:30 pm »
I think you could have explained it fairly (as you do) without using the Ponzi label (which is unnecessarily sensationalist). To me, that implies fraud beyond the design of NuBots. It imputes some dishonest intentions. I'd prefer to believe that the NuBots people are honest, even if it's a flawed design that relies on IOUs. Aside from that criticism, the article is well-written.

Agreed.

Also agree.

It is a interesting idea for sure and I love that they are trying to bring the 2.0 crowd together but I wonder about the development of the product also. Mumble would be good I would like to hear more.

General Discussion / Re: How to Maintain Privacy with BitShares
« on: January 12, 2015, 01:22:05 pm »
Apparently the Shadow community appears to have (or so they claim) one of the best or the best method for privacy during transactions. They use a two coin system where each time you convert them, new coins are created/minted

Check 3.3 and 4.
http://shadow.cash/downloads/shadowcash-anon.pdf

btw im not a tech guy so im not sure how thing work in detail, but it's always worth to check it out. Food for thought, maybe it will spark some ideas

This may be a overly simple solution but what if we had a mixing delegate.

user A sends tainted bts to mixing delegate. mixing delegate B creates a new registered account with the newly minted coins and sends newly minted coins to said registered account. Delegate keeps tainted coins and a small fee. Delegate B then sends user A a pgp message of his new account with new coins.

Or even simpler, a user wanting to mix his coins should just send them to a exchange with high volume and convert to a few different alts and finally back to bts, thus receiving different coins then he had from the start.

https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/amagi-metals-pay-entire-staff-bitcoin

I bought a few silver coins from them, quite a while ago now, using bitcoin. But it was a Bitpay transaction and I don't think that they were keeping any of the bitcoin back then. They were just using BitPay to convert to fiat immediately. But now, with them paying staff in bitcoin, I guess they are no longer converting all crypto sales to fiat immediately anymore.

I don't think that we should approach them until 1.0 release, but I think they are an extremely likely prospect to start using bitSILVER, bitGOLD and bitUSD. It would be a big win for them over bitcoin, which they are already accepting and keeping.

 +5% Interesting

I think we should approach guys like this as soon as possible to start a conversation, to discuss it and get feedback but again I'd prefer if we had a delegate who fulfilled this role & was skilled in making contacts and building relationships vs. just us randomly contacting.
Contact made, these guys are a great fit for accepting Market pegged assets.

Ok, made some good progress this week:

Set up another machine in order to test this process more correctly.
Tested sending BTC to the daemon address and correctly got BTS back out again.
Still working on the opposite way around, having some slight issues when the sender is not a registers bitshares account.

All in all, this is close to being the first releasable version! Once this outstanding bug is fixed and I can get some more testing done it will be ready to go!

Have a great weekend!

Cheers, Paul.

Great to have you back, your project is so exciting that I look forward to seeing your progress updates.........also please ignore the shill above me suggesting to vote you out, I meant absolutely nothing of the sort.

Happy Birthday

General Discussion / Re: Looking for a tech to run my delegate
« on: January 08, 2015, 10:06:04 pm »
As someone that is sitting in with max on meetings with business partners I have nothing but good things to say about him.

We actually recently had a discussion on how you quantify results of these meetings and how to show the community their value. Obviously you can't sit in on the meetings and it wouldn't make sense to give anyone person the credit for getting a partner company to sign on.

No matter what metrics you use, here is what I personally have seen:

Great speaking ability
Informed about the product
Very solid work on http://bitshares.tv/
Great work done on Press kit
The book http://www.amazon.com/BitShares-101-Generation-Currencies-Decentralized-ebook/dp/B00QUIWHR0

Honestly I can't imagine working a community based marketing effort without him. He is one one those figures that acts as a social glue bringing devs, marketers and talkers like myself together helping us form one great simply message and then conveying that message to partners that will in turn help Bitshares become a standout among 2.0 technologies.

All that being said I can't wait to hear about his incentives and how many delegates he is asking for.

Me - There is fashion to be chief scientist now. In fact i'am not. I think more in business terms so i am responsible for architecting all this stuff.
Kostya Lomashuk - responsible for pushing everything forward.
Vitalik Lvov - responsible for investment operation of cyber•Fund and providing expertise to cyber•Shares community.
Dima Sadovnichiy - responsible for development. Contracts development in future.
Max Uvarov - leading digital marketing expert in Russia. Didn't commit full-time to project yet, but his advices are valuable for us.
Marina Guryeva and Vova Savin are early investors who believe in us from the very begin. Initially Vova was responsible for mining (hardware), but now we don't believe in mining as it exist today, so he think about engaging in some future hardware engineering.
Early Believers  - FFF (friends, family, fools). Small group. So we already pass this stage.
Category of founders is a way to to honour people who make this all happens. This category exist and doesn't mean nor work, nor responsibility.

Ok so who is going to develop the wallet and all these cool features you are talking about?
Vitalik, Kostya, Dima and me. Of course we will do everything to expand the team.

awesome, last question I promise :)

Do you guys have linked in profiles or can you point me toward past work that shows you can complete a project of this scope?

OK so let me see what I understand as oppose to what I don't.

You are proposing a share drop of 10% to maidsafe, ethereum, bitshares and nxt. Is their an actual date set when these sharedrops will happen?

Then 22% for purchaser's-I am assuming this is the UIA across each platform? Is the amount of User issued assets equal on each platform? what happens if you sell out on next but have a surplus on bitshares?

What are these other groups that are listed?
Distributed trust10%
Founders 10%-I get who this group is but can you reveal everyone in the projects name that is apart of this group?
Cypher Fund 10%-This is the actual money that is used to buy assets across the 4 exchanges? Will the holding amounts be public? Who picks how much of a asset you hold and where?
Inspirer's 8%- Who is included in this group (names) and how do they fit in?

How does a buyer of the UIA profit from this?

General Discussion / Re: What are Github commits?
« on: January 08, 2015, 04:14:23 pm »

"The project raised over 4 million throughout its history and I was able to get Koblitz and Merkle to join ethereum prior to even a fraction of that funding. I think that good projects are able to attract great minds if the ideas are accessible and there is an emphasis placed upon collaboration. Vitalik established a wonderfully collaborative environment for people to join Ethereum, do you feel the same has been done for the developers behind bitshares?"

Your ability to get people excited about projects is well known and recognized. You have been able to exercise  this talent across a few different projects and I think it has just as much to do with you as it does the project in question. I believe your background as a mathematician coupled with the ability to speak well makes you a great talent scout and a unusual mix of talents.

To answer your question, Yes I do. I think the evidence is here in the forums. As time has past and even more so of late we are seeing people with a range of talents being attracted to Bitshares like months to a flame. I think Ethereum's approach of attracting talent/interest is different then ours. Ethereum has a star power for sure, just read through the list of names of people working on the project. That in itself is huge. Bitshares has maybe some less established players but arguably twice as hungry. These guys don't have long legacy's of accolades, most of their stories good or bad have yet to be written.  I don't know so I will ask, Why does it  seem like  Ethereum has attracted the attention of many of the established players while Bitshares developers seem to be younger and with less......history? I think the answer has alot to do with you and as stated above, your ability to attract talent.Which you have a proven track record of.

Bitshares attracts talent through incentive(delegates) and by appealing to ideal's, Does Ethereum just appeal to ideal's to attract talent?

"It seems to be a payment mechanism for work and that's great to explore. The bigger issue is if the development team is inclusive or exclusive. Bitcoin is terribly closed to the outside world and many with great ideas from Amir Taaki to the Btcd project have been excluded from the conversation for whatever reason is floating in the core developer's head.

I think it's worth spending some time examining successful open source projects like the linux project (800 developers from 100 countries) to firefox. What have they done to attract talent and new ideas? How do they manage the community? How do they deal with different philosophies and goals? A little bit of time in reflection can yield great results. "

Your comparisons are to preemptive to draw any kind of conclusions. The projects stated above long histories. Firefox was started by 2 people who worked together that were unhappy about the direction their boss was telling them to go.They were also done at a time when the internet was young. In order to understand why some one thinks or feels the way they do you must not only look at the person or company but you must also look at the time period they worked in.

To quote BM "Bitshares is like a onion, Bitshares has layers". To me Bitcoin(god bless it, if you believe in that kind of thing) is a victim of its own success. Money attracts alot of player's and each player with their own agenda. We are only at the outer most layer. We are just learning how people will behave as delegates and how voters will use their power. Thats not even taking the challenges that the code itself into consideration.

Bitshares has caught alot of flack because of the way it has changed or even better evolved. I won't argue if the changes are good or bad from the original, thats for nature to decide.I will argue that its willingness to make big moves and bold changes will help keep the project a success.

I wish you would consider joining a mumble session. A good portion of this conversation is about the free exchange of thoughts and ideas, why not come share some with us. Not only that but I think you would probably make a certain fuzz a very happy happy guy.

If you move your asset you will collect the yield whatever it is so just vote or transfer it to yourself and see what happens.

What do people think of Dwolla? https://www.dwolla.com/

That's an example I kind of like.

- Clear, succinct  pitch with a call to action and learn more option
- Then it funnels target markets.

Then you scroll down and see a few more key points.

(Edit: Nice that we're 25X cheaper than their main selling point :) )

I love this type of page, clean simple and easy for anyone in any of the above groups to find what they want quickly.
