General Discussion / Re: What is the Counter For?

Not sure how that link is supposed to help. It identifies that it is for ags donations and, when it ends. Does not easily identify what it is for. Maybe that is because we don't really know what it is for? I'm sure it will be good but, it is hard to tell.

That's kinda why I was asking. I don't think anybody trully knows what this snapshot is for. Also, it sounds like this is the last snapshot? I wouldn't say I'm hardcore on knowing everything about bitshares but, I definitely try to read first. If I was unable to arrive at a clear answer then I'm sure others are not able to as well which is why the donations are low. Maybe that is on purpose? People who do understand don't want return to decrease due to high number of donators?

my 64bit has never worked either. I'm hoping that is on purpose and they just don't want to call me stupid. The reason I say this is because they only thing people say to do is delete appdata folder and install. After that my report is treated like it didn't happen.

I would like to consider myself technically inclined. I have yet to be able to successfully open the wallet. I've done everything short of wiping my computer completely. If this is on purpose then that is fine. If not then a solution really needs to be found. I have brought this up before but, it was not really looked into.

windows 7 pro 64bit.

Have you tried deleting the BitSharesXT folder located in C:>Users>Admin>AppData>Roaming and starting the client?

Yes. I don't know everything about IT but, I would like to think that I've done everything a person can do with a mouse. This means that I have not modified registry settings, changed items inside of a file, or reformatted my pc.

i am sorry to hear this. i am confident that future releases will work with your rig, but for now I think you may be stuck playing the waiting game.

could you describe your issue further: when you open the client, does a splash screen appear briefly, or does absolutely nothing happen? After you attempt to run the application, can you see any BitShares processes running in the background when you press control+alt+delete ?

The version previous to the current would open up and disappear. The version before that did nothing. The current version shows the initial splash screen for a few seconds. Shortly after I get a windows error "application not responding."

Windows 7 64 bit. I've re-installed twic and wiped app data both times. When I install and try to run the client opens and then disappears. No events in event viewer. Is this to be expected for my version of windows or, am I missing something?

It should work on Windows 7. Any log files in C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\BitShares XTS ?

Nothing with .log. Just .dll's and an exe.

Firewall/AV disabled. AV is ESET. Cisco web filter also disabled just in case. No host file entries. DNS pointed to ISP.

Also tried the following.
Run as administrator (domain and local)
Run in xp mode.
Run from program files(x86) instead of the shortcut.

seeing this from feature perspective bitshares has at least one feature that emunie does not ..
what shorting adds to an economy? I am the wrong guy to answer that question .. maybe you should watch the introduction movie?!

Maybe, I will answer this question (short version)

Some market simply cannot exist without one side being short and the other being long.

Examples include futures, options, bitAssets on BTS X.

Those markets provide valuable products:

-BTS X with its bitUSD will provide the advantages of the crypto currencies with the price stability of the dollar.

-Futures – One Important segment of the economy (the one that feed is all literally) - the farmers, also struggle with big movements in the price of their product. Even worst, all of their product comes at the same time. We have all the supply in one month and the demand spread throughout the year. Guess what will happens with the price when for example all the corns come to the market at the same time. Future allow the farmers to fix and hedge their price at a (profitable) chosen by them level and secure that they will get no more no less than that price. They achieve that by going short the required number of futures contract equal to the amount of product they expect to produce.

Another good example is multinational companies hedging against currency exchange rates. If a company operates in Europe and expects the currency to decline in price then they can short their profit so that it does not turns into a loss. A similar thing might be done with bitcoin vs pts vs whatever other currency/commodity.

I'm not worried as this was kind of my "throw it in and see what happens" bet. If it should fail then fine. If not then great. I was just simply stating that we are passed the "in good time" phase.
