Always make backups, AND REMEMBER THAT YOU HAVE THEM AND WHERE THEY ARE.

Advice to all - if you've lost something think back to when you last remember having it and then retrace your steps. It may be that you left it in a pocket and will find it in a garment in the laundry basket. Also check behind cushions and down the back of your armchair. If it's your glasses, they may be on the top of your head.

@toast - where did you find your BitAssets? I bet you got distracted and put them down on the side when the phone rang...

The block production is REALLY slow with the current implementation of PTS, which I think was the main argument against proof of burn as a way to claim new DPOS PTS. It'd be lovely if someone could think of a way to use proof of burn.

Is there no way that the snapshot could be taken, as announced, in order to allocate new DPOS PTS, but then only release the new funds after old PTS is sent to a proof of burn address? Even if people have to wait for weeks for transactions to go through, would it really matter?

General Discussion / Re: Hard Questions for Bytemaster
« on: November 30, 2014, 01:06:56 am »
A better question to ask is...
"Will a nice wallet and protocol v1 be done before the end of this month?"

Not a chance. Unless you mean december.

I'm assuming he meant December.

The wallet will never be perfect, it shouldn't be an excuse not to start the marketing.

Bytemaster wants to finish up the core features so he can put out a 1.0 release and then not hard fork it for 6 months.  That way the new adopters brought in by the marketing can see a ready product and not have to download a new version over and over any more.

We are all aware of the "sector" we are in is change rapidly, right? In this case, one month delay of major marketing moves is necessary but also a luxury. Thus if this is a smart delay or stupid one yet to be see.

It can't be necessary and a luxury simultaneously. On balance it seems to be necessary. Therefore it has to be done.

I know more accounts makes it slower to scan. I'd like to see some quantitative details on this.

I don't know whether or not it makes restoring a wallet a lot harder.

..The only thing I disagree with is Adams value. I've looked into him and I think he would be a WICKED addition to our marketing effort if he were allowed to participate in an official manner.

Here, 'wicked' means 'very good'. Just to avoid any confusion :)

edited to add:

So Brian is paid if BitShares market cap increased, even if 95% of the volume is CNY? I don't think this is reasonable. The USD volume should be the judge.

This is worth bearing in mind. It's been acknowledged that the Chinese marketing has done well...

Freezing funds is a slippery slope.

Frustration with marketing is nothing new, but things have only been improving. Adam is legit and CAVO is a huge opportunity, Brian's crew is legit but cannot execute until we give them the go-ahead with a nice wallet and protocol v1.

I agree with this, we cant just freeze funds as much as I would like to. It will make people lose confidence in the system...

A slippery slope indeed. Part of the reason people will come into the BitShares ecosystem is to avoid their money being effectively or literally taken from them (or devalued) by 'the system'. This will be hindered if the BitShares ecosystem has demonstrated that it's done exactly this.

It wouldn't be such a disaster if BTS were to be taken back contractually 'off chain' though (rather than being frozen).

And to close with an advice... When society and everyone around you think you are crazy, then most probably you are right.. ;)

I'm not disagreeing with you, but your comment reminds me of a Carl Sagan quote which happened to be mentioned by Andreas M. Antonopoulos on a podcast I listened to recently.
"Let's Talk Bitcoin! #165: The Shadow of History" - http://letstalkbitcoin.com/blog/post/lets-talk-bitcoin-165-the-shadow-of-history

Quote

But the fact that some geniuses were laughed at does not imply that all who are laughed at are geniuses. They laughed at Columbus, they laughed at Fulton, they laughed at the Wright Brothers. But they also laughed at Bozo the Clown.

Carl Sagan

Anyway, the Ripple rise seems to have ceased at the moment - it's down a little...

General Discussion / Re: People don't understand BitUSD peg
« on: November 27, 2014, 01:17:32 pm »
But it's gotta be a problem when more experienced people think the same way. Talking about volatility, and the peg, Adam B Levine mentions that there's almost no volume on bter, and that the rate is 95 cents on the dollar.
If you take a look at bter's bitUSD/USD market then you should also take a look at BTC/USD market .. same thing! Not an issue for bitUSD or BitShares .. the internal market is very well working with good liquidity ..

Either Adam doesn't know better or just sucks

I've added an edit at the bottom of my original post to clarify my statement.
