General Discussion / Re: Why no one is shorting bitassets?
« on: May 09, 2015, 08:10:42 am »
I agree 10% is too high, but as long as there are automated margin call orders people wanting to buy a likely to be forced to pay over the market (to beat the margin orders at call price) so there should remain a good incentive for people to close their own orders before it reaches the level of being called.

I think being able to keep a short open for a longer period of time would also be good, as automatically closing after 30 days has left a backlog of short orders being margin called.

General Discussion / If you could start any Bitshares business...
« on: May 07, 2015, 08:51:49 am »
I'm confused why more people aren't starting Bitshares related business. There seems to be less of an 'ecosystem' around BTS than there is for other cryptos, but yet there should be more as the DPoS provides a way to help fund them.

So I just thought I'd ask - Do people even have any good ideas for BTS businesses?

Personally, if I could start any Bitshares business...

I would set up a site selling BitGold. You can say to people "invest in gold online with zero fees and earn interest". That is genuinely better than everything else being offered on the market anywhere in the world right now. I think it is reasonable to assume that its as good a deal as it is practically possible for people to ever get, now or in the future.

Its also a huge market, both in terms of the number of people and even more so in terms of $$$.

What's more its not marketing to crypto-fans (which is a way over-saturated market), its bringing in new blood who may not know or care about cryptocurrency and who don't need to care about it to enjoy its benefits.

If anyone wants to steal this idea from me feel free - but please do consider contacting me as I can help with marketing and some other things.

Any other ideas?

Technical Support / Re: Instant Critical Error

I don't know if its the same problem but maybe it has to do with the antivirus?

Yes, THANKS!

When I've had anti-virus issues before it always gave an alert saying it was blocking the program, so I didn't even check that.

Strange. If you delete the whole "chain" folder does anything different happen?

Slightly different. First time I did it last night I got the blue screen and 'bitshares starting', which wasn't happening before. That stayed for about four hours and then I had to power down. Today I get the bitshares starting screen flash for a second or two and then the same critical error message.

Also in the command prompt, I get the same thing as above but also this bit, which I don't remember seeing before:

Code: [Select]
th_a fast_level_map.hpp:64 bts::db::fast_level_map<unsigned char, struct bts::blockchain::property_record>::toggle_leveldb

Just tried to open my wallet via the command line and got:

Code: [Select]
error

13 class boost::filesystem::filesystem_error: boost::filesystem::remove The directory is not empty: "C:\.......chain\index\property_id_to_record"

What also seemed strange to me was that when I tried to take a look at the folder in question I found that the whole chain folder was still empty.

The download link for Windows says x34-bit/64-bit, but I have an x64 bit processor as well as 64-bit OS. Could that be why its not working?

Technical Support / Instant Critical Error
« on: April 23, 2015, 05:32:12 pm »
I've just tried to install the Bitshares wallet on a new laptop and when I try to open it I instantly get a critical error 'error occurred while trying to start'.

This is not the same as what other people have posted where it tries to synch and then crashes - this is an instant crash within a second of double clicking to open. I've tried 0.8.1 and also 0.9.0 and the same thing happens.

Can anybody tell me what to do?

This happened quietly, I had no idea they could be claimed.

Can anybody point me towards instructions for how to import keys from a multibit wallet?

Please read here: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,15593.msg200557.html#msg200557

Thanks, that was very helpful.

Consider reposting your articles on Medium.com, it could help you with extra exposure! Worked for me :)

That's a great idea, I've read a couple of blogs on Medium and thought it was a really nice site,

Nice work.

Thanks.

Great initiative!

The social media bar on the left covers part of the text so I have to scroll much...

Damn...thanks for letting me know.

will point you to some alternatives later this day

Thanks!

Great - maybe you should consider to change font! Cause it's really noisy sometimes and difficult to read!

Great Initiative !  +5%

Thanks for the tip! I will certainly look into finding something better. Its difficult to find something more readable which also fits with the general theme style, but hopefully I will be able to find something that looks good and is readable. Perhaps just increasing the font size might do it.
