Title: Bitsapphire working on a general purpose bitAsset wallet [designs inside]
Post by: bitsapphire on September 27, 2014, 06:26:41 pm
Many people in the community have been asking what our team is up to lately.

Beyond routine forum tasks such as working on creating multiple backups for the forum, making torrent files of the comments ready, and changing some on-site SEO we have also been working on our own little project!  :D

As we are invested in the I3 DAC ecosystem we want to add value by using our industry expertise (UX/UI development and user facing web applications). We figured that the current wallet being developed by I3 goes beyond just being a wallet and is a fully fledged trading engine. It is attractive to early adopters and DAC/finance geeks, but not the general population.

We believe that the wast majority of users want a simple wallet which holds their funds and which they can use to transfer funds similar to the current generation of advanced bitcoin web wallets. Most users would be put off by having immediate access to a complicated financial interface. The way we look at this is that your default calculator in your operating system uses a simple calculator view, but you can always select the financial calculator view if you need it.

As many of you have already read we are also working with Cedric and Eddie from Bitshares Music to build the peertracks web application. We have agreed that Peertracks will use our wallet.

The wallet will be modular to fit the needs of as many upcoming DACs as possible. We intend to make the wallet fully open source under the MIT license so that more projects can use it, including for commercial purposes.

We don't want to raise funds to develop the wallet, rather we intend to do a fundraiser once the wallet is fully developed. We don't like vaporware either  :). Depending on how much we raise different rewards can be achieved for the donors. The fundraiser itself is still in th works.

The wallet tech stack is:

We have chosen this tech stack specifically so the same wallet can work on the client (as does the current BitSharesX wallet), the browser as a web wallet, and potentially on mobile devices.

If everything goes as planned we should have first interactive videos of the wallet UX/UI ready in 5-6 weeks, paving the way for advanced user testing of the wallet. The flowing are the UX designs which we are using as references for our developers (obviously, fields and content are not final).

Edit: For people who might be interested, we use the Google Material design (http://www.google.com/design/spec/material-design/introduction.html#) principles (Video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8TXgCzxEnw)). We want to future-proof the UX/UI.

Different DACs will need to be KYC capable such as for non-bearer instrument tokens. Companies like Overstock would need such DAC capabilities and interfaces.

We are just building the UX/UI so it's ready for more DACs in a consistent way.

That looks very nice!!

Will we be able to claim securely shares from 3rd party DACs that honor PTS-AGS using this wallet or I am again out of topic?

Now this post, will provide material for at least 3 question in the 'Stupid Questions' thread, from me.

The vault looks cool!  +5%

Will it colors other than green?

Ask away :D

Turquoise is just our branding reference color. Different DACs or companies such as Peertracks will use their own branding and color scheme.

The wallet is not intended for this purpose (though it could be used it PTS gets converted to DPOS). This is simply a wallet designed specifically for the general population. The wallet can be used and adapted freely by any DAC project out there.

Seriously impressed with the UI! Wouldn't a mobile app be more useful though?

Fantastic job, if it's for general public maybe the default screen could be with rounding to nearest cent. $1.57 looks much more familiar than $1.568765. Or round down if it makes complications ie $1.56. You could have a show more decimal places button if needed.

Yes!

This will bring great value to the BitShares Music blockchain. PeerTracks would fail miserably if it ended up looking like btc-e!

The material design framework we're using is intended to work cross platform and works on mobile too. Here's an example of the framweork in action on a mobile device, it's insanely smooth http://vimeo.com/86664858.

Coinbase shows two decimal points until you mouse over it. I like that.

Looks really good.

Am I understanding correctly then that this is an open source front-end design that can be easily integrated with any DAC using the Bitshares toolkit on the back end?

Meaning a new DAC developer could clone the Bitshares toolkit and tweak as necessary and then create a site using this and have a DAC with a web GUI using very little relative development time?

If I could add my .02 bitUSD. I would like to see a simple layout since time and energy will be spent to revamp the current wallet design.
Below is a quick layout I think may work and integrate it with the awesome looks your already going for....

(http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/a485/emailtooaj/Screenshot20_zpsd05b9a7d.png) (http://s1280.photobucket.com/user/emailtooaj/media/Screenshot20_zpsd05b9a7d.png.html)

I'm a simple person, so going for stupid easy design is what I'm all about  ;D

I really like the "Dashboard" approach when an application first opens up.
Of course this is just a rough layout so hack away,  but I hope I'm helping in some way?!!

Looks great. Nice work. If this can integrate with any of the on-ramps Brian has talked about (seamlessly tie in with banks or credit cards, etc. to allow people to purchase BTSX and other BitShares currencies from fiat without visiting an exchange), that would be fabulous. I also share the previous poster's belief that a simple design is best.

That's the idea, yes. Though the first release will be a complete wallet plus some general purpose frontend stuff which any DAC developer can use to build their custom frontend.

There is no reason why one could not do that. We would love to see something like that!

That's definitely a big contribution to the ecosystem then.  Nicely done and good luck with continued development on it.

Any idea when the wallet will be ready for release?

We should be able to show off the fluid design of some of the views this week.

Within 3-5 weeks we will create the angular integration. For this we use the came QT wrapper the current wallet uses. Then we start working on the Node.js wrapper which will take longer but will be of great use to more DACs and developers.
