Had a very warm welcome both within bitcointalk (unusual?) and gaming communities.
I'll put up the social media pages for the project today - and have an article up on medium.
Sincere gratititude to everyone that's come out and spoke for us at BTC Talk - you guys are the best :)

Just some stats
We had 500 bets worth close to (on-site token) 6600 USD placed and the house winning has been highly profitable so far.
I am in talks with a number of marketing avenues and will soon be working with them to get the hype up over the weekend.

Regards

Edit : very tempted to jump right into the fee discussion, but I owe it to the company, team and the investors to work on promotions so bam.. following it closely none the less!

good job

One worry would be teams would possibly fix matches because betting is involved. Any longer term plans for some type of simple reputation system or report abuse?

I just saw this great project today, @Xypher awesome
do you have the plan for the prediction market's backend?
I have thought something like this before, here is my way:
1. issue 16 smart assets: BET1, BET2, .... BET16, reserved by USD.(or CNY/TCNY, because lack of USD now)
2. the initial price is both 16CNY/BETX
3. after 1st round, there are 8 winers and 8 losers, change loser's price to 8CNY/BTS.
4. enable force settle.
5. after the period of force settle, start a new round, disable force settle, change all 16 asset's price to 8CNY/BETX

as a player, for example I bet BET1 win BET2, I should borrow BET2, and sell BET2 for BET1 at a price from 0.5~2.

the benifit for this is you can reuse these assets, everyone should ask for settle, because the price allways /2

I have test the whole steps in test chain, it's run perfectly.

+5% +5% +5% cool  make the GUI easy
let users simple click to finish bet

sorry,it's my misunderstanding,
I thought you are developing a prediction market.

As of now, its an e-sports betting system (at gamebet.gg) - but given the fact that PM's work on binary outcomes(from what I read) and there can only be a WIN or LOSS on bets placed, it is highly possible to integrate the two. That said, depending on the stability, incentives and complexity of the PM here, we may or may not integrate it.

I am heavily loaded with the marketing front for the next few weeks, but if you'd be open to sitting down with me for an hour and break this down, I'd be glad to see how it can be integrated into what's being built. As of now gamebet.gg is purely focused on gamers, but the way I see it, PM integration will give individuals even from the financial markets to see what's in it for them. I've been hunting documentation for a while. If there's any reading I coud do in regards to this, please do link me.
As of now - the PM market is not integrated, but it is surely a possibility. I'll take the matter up with kuro and hybridd too.

interesting, I was under the impression freebieservers had more influence. in the end 0 teams signed up...?

We've been solely focusing on gamebet.gg for the past few days. This is metric from 2 days of taking sign ups.
I decided not to move forward with the tournament until we launched 2 key projects (gamebet & gambit) as they use Bitshares heavily and it made no sense to have the tournament until the projects were launched. I'll get back to promoting Bitshares as these pieces fall in place.

We had close to 400 bets being placed in our alpha test mode. I'll share metrics later.

Thanks as always for providing us the info :)

I am excited to look at the numbers from today  as I hadn't done major promotions until yesterday and GA takes 24 hours to update.
Over the course of the week, hopefully we should hit 10-15k views. One of the smart things hybridd did was the live stream of matches and the schedule listings. I think a large number of users use the system for that purpose too. So far, I've had very positive responses from individuals that saw the concept.

Thanks, @Xypher

And what about this question:
Do I need to pay anything to enroll a team and become a participant? If so - how much?
What is your business model? Who funds the rewards?

And if CS:GO is so popular, I'm sure there are already online tournaments like yours.
What USP did you achieve by doing it with BitShares?

1. Currently entry is free to participants. Each team comes with 5 participants and they are allocated a BTS wallet (the fee for which we pay).
2. Rewards and operations are currently sponsored by the people we endorse. Currently FMV is our key sponsor and am trying to reel in more people.
3. Cs:GO is indeed popular, but the crypto-integration is relatively new. In addition, this gives them an early taste of our E-sports betting platform and in-game item marketplace. The most important aspect of BTS integration is probably the zero wait time confirmation that will eventually allow gamers to transfer money for their daily activities.

Regards

That's good.
You should advertise it clearly then that participation is free but still you can win something. It's an important piece of information for the user.

Yea we are still launching out with the marketing phase.
I asked for the tournie to be pushed further a week so that brands and endorsements can fall in place.

@Xypher , I'm happy you are doing this.
As I not not a big fan of these kind of things (i.e. I'm not your target), I can offer you a more objective feed-back.

Nowhere on your website (at least I did not find it after 2-3 minutes of browsing) do you say what this is all about.
What kind of tournament is this? What is e-sport? How do people compete? Do they play some kind of on-line game?

OK, so here is your chance to target people who don't know what CS:GO is and why it is so much fun to play it.
Unless it's your marketing decision to ignore this target.

Hey Jakub,
Thank you for your input.

Few things to bring to your notice,
Firstly, our goal with the tournament was to bring more users into an ecosystem by having them experience the core product  without even having them know what they are doing. People don't really know how the servers behind facebook work, but the guys there have done a wonderful job putting together a system that makes any average joe interact with the system and share thoughts, opinions, memories, memes - all kinds of stuff without ever knowing the technical side of things. What, we noticed early on, we were doing wrong was the fact that we have been trying too hard to sell the technology to the average user, and then spending time whining about the GUI. Ofcourse we can't expect CNX to solve all our problems and each one of us have to contribute towards making this eco system more welcoming to the average user.  So, in a way this is us working towards that. This is the first of many integrations we intend to do into the ecosystem we have been striving towards creating over the past year.

To break down what we are doing in terms of integrations :

1. We took steampowered.com  - the gaming world's largest marketplace logins and used it to make Bitshares wallets. So basically any user can now have a Bts wallet ready to send, receive funds in a matter of five seconds. No fancy keys involved, no passwords - just a click to authorize like the one gmail offers and you have a BTS wallet ready to function.

2. We cut out a lot of junk from the BTS wallet and made it more gamer oriented. This meant stripping away the junk that the  dex offered. We believe it should be as simple and intuitive  a system we could build.

To put in perspective the devs have worked towards making Bitshares the first community to have a steam-powered wallet, specific for gamers

Now to, answer your question : why isn't there an explanation on the tournament ?
Well, the tournament was aimed at gamers and most gamers know de-facto what model the tournament will pan out and the basic rules.
I didn't really expect to attract a crypto-enthusiast to come join us for the tournament. Now that, I see you are interested, I'll try and make changes to make it more welcoming for you too.

I see a number of people interested in taking part for the tournament. To be honest, due to resource constraints - we are looking at hosting all of 16 teams. Depending on sponsorship and resource availability this might go up to 32/64  but that's completely dependent on how much we manage to raise. So far, FMV has been our key sponsor. If we can crowdfund / find more backing, we'd be glad to do this once every quarter or so.

I also find that a number of people would like to buy CS:GO and begin playing it. I'll arrange for a means for you guys to buy it and play it.
Maybe we could find faster consensus by loading our rifles and shooting each while screaming expletives other in a game :)

I think its important the community here sees the importance of what we are building.
Do take a look at https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,20736.0.html for more information on E-sports and why Crypto's will play a major role in it in the coming  5 years.

All I could figure out is this:
- there are some teams involved,
- there are prizes denominated in BTS to be won,
- there will be moderators preventing the participants from cheating.

But what kind of game will be played - I still don't know.
And I don't know if I need to pay anything to become a participant.

Please, take this feed-back the right way.
I know I could find out all these answers if I paid more attention and read the forum thread. So it's just me being lazy.
But we all know that most people are lazy. So please consider structuring the information on your website in such a way that after 20 seconds I fully understand what this is all about.

Just a head's up, we are pushing the tournament further by a week/2 max.
This is to help on-coming sponsors integrate better with what we do and provide more time for on-boarding partners.
This means brands/individuals can still buy in and advertise with us as we put things together.

I have sent out e-mails to a number of individuals explaining the opportunity here. Looking forward to hearing back from them.

What would donations go towards?  I'd gladly donate to a crowd fund to increase the grand prize payout.

Am I wrong in assuming that that would be the best way to get more attention for this tourney?

Hey,

Thank you for the interest.
From what I have learned, no, a direct size of pool increase will not increase attention.
It will have to be invested into

>Twitch advertisements (streamers talking of us)
>Forum advertisements
>Team sponsorships (primarily for social media coverage).

The pools size does matter, but the funds can be split and further invested into this.
Maybe 50 percent could go into the pool and 50 towards marketing.
There are expenses in terms of human resource and infrastructure too.
We're talking of monitoring over 200 matches and keeping them hack free for a fair tournament, which is a pain in itself.
That said, if you'd like to contribute solely to the pool - just add it in, as a memo when you send the donation.

P.s - Lots of eyes on my username. Hope it doesn't matter :)

1st -  I really like THAT!
2nd - I would attend if it were not CS but R6Siege.
3rd -  IMHO prize should be bitUSD not BTS.
4th -  Don't think the date is well chosen, because of holidays.
5th -  Not sure if betting in any kind without permission is legal in germany, so I'm not able to advertise this directly.

However keep it up!  +5%

to address some of these:

2) r6s is popular as an emergent game but nowhere near as established as cs:go, as such were aiming at the more target-rich environment.

3) the prize being in bitusd would only confuse the hell out of our users and they would have no idea what to do with it

4)we specifically chose the date because of the holidays, the demographic were targeting is out of school for these dates and generally is not old enough to drink.

5) there is no betting involved in this tournament.

Nice! just curious .. Xypher renamed from freebieserver before, right?

We will have a total of 200 matches. Lots of chances to get killed and use expletives.

new banner is ready :D

I remember reading an older post from AK (Vote) about contributing to e-gaming. Is that still the case?

@Xypher knows more about that than I

Good deal, here's the link:

https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,19554.msg250932.html#msg250932

Very excited to see E-sports find it's way to Bitshares.

Have to be honest.
AK has been very patient with my delays and highly collaborative.
Messaged him, stan and Dan about the tournament.
Waiting to hear back.

Pinging other brands (CCEDK, Muse) to join in at the moment.
Would love it if we can bring maximum brand exposure with a single campaign.

As for press release : I will ping journalists and see if we can arrange some PR

wow that has a very nice look! Only thing missing might be a Freebies logo there or on the background with transparency to go with the theme, after all, you need your brand to be recognized right? I would also suggest the BitShares logo even if small and discrete.

im actually working with my art guy right now to make a cool logo that combies freebie and shitshares for this :D

the system will be released within an hour or two, there has been some delays today but all in all its ready to start taking sign ups!

Sports-betting robots are giving the industry bad press right now.  There might be a niche for a system that is peer to peer, so that 95% of the winnings don't go to the 1% bots...

How are you planning to promote/market this beyond the members of the bitshare community?

awesome question, the key marketing platforms we are using are:

Reddit
Twitch
Gaming forums

Via sharebits:
Twitter
Facebook
Instagram

we have a detailed marketing plan laid out which we are more than happy to share, we are working closely with @eagleeye in this regard,
perhaps he and @Freebieservers can shed more light.

Any plans for articles in places like Coindesk and Bitcoin Magazine?

Announcing a brand endorsement later today.
Do PM me if you'd like to work out a deal with us.
There's only about 13 days to the event and we're looking to get things in place ASAP.

Previews of the wallet system we are using for the tournament.
Will be announcing product collaborations and rules of the tournament later today.
Kindly ping me if you'd want to see your projects endorsed.
Alternatively, do donate to the crowd-fund. Sad to see zero donations come so far.

I imagine this getting more popular by getting it done at universities too. If you do it from X to X months, rotating universities. Then doing this every year to gather even a bigger crowd... It could get popular.

Specially if you find some team or famous players/streamers to sponsor this.

We are already in touch with a number of major teams.
Doing this in the model suggested by you would require a lot more resources.
Maybe, some time when we have our E-sports venture running at scale :)

Is this a cs tourney?

CSGO this time around yes, sorry for the lack of clarity

I am happy to announce that we are launching a new initiative at Freebie LLC. We are fronting the first ever Bitshares E-Sports tournament in the first month of January. In order to help attain the goal of garnering more users into the Bitshares Ecosystem we are working towards :

    * Opening a tournament with Bitshares as prizes
    * Setting up of an intuitive wallet within the tournament sign up system
    * Establishment of our E-sports venture's early marketing campaign done via UIA's issued on Bitshares.

We are also fronting a new wallet - with absolute basic systems (send, receive and history) to avoid confusing the end users with pointless functionality that does not appeal to them. In the current variation its a trustless system and we store the information encrypted with AES and the information cannot be decrypted without knowledge of the users password which we do not store. We are looking to have our tournament attracting around 16-32 teams with around 5 members in each team. We will be working via marketing channels such as twitch and forums to garner the crowds. A key reason why we had delayed this promotion for so long was the fact that we were waiting for key pieces such as the sharebot and our e-sports venture falling in place. Now that we are looking to go all in, with promotions.  The  tournament we are hosting for Bitshares is the first of many projects we are looking to launch in the months to come. We intend to launch 2 key projects that have been in the works for months in the months to come.

This is quintessential to the Bitshares eco-system as this is the first time an organization is running an operation of scale into a demographic as diverse as that of gaming. We will be using a plugin to automatically transfer winnings to the users and utilizing UIA's for active marketing of the project. In addition, users will be directly interacting with the Bitshares blockchain, without having to go through the pain of setting up a wallet - or utilizing the overly confusing UI of the existing wallet. This is just the beginning and we are looking forward to doing lots more for the community. I'll be following up in the thread with rules, updates and on-going promotions.

Endorsements & Funding

Although we intend to bear a large part of the tournament's expenses through the financial backing provided by the aforementioned community member, we are open to taking donations from individuals and organizations in regards to the marketing campaign. Brands , start-ups and teams looking for endorsements of their products and product integrations into our eco-system may contact me via pm to discuss further possibilities. Currently, we are looking  for individuals looking to give away prizes, sponsor ranked teams and twitch streamers and back us financially for the marketing campaign.

We are also looking to upgrade our Bitshares account (gamebet-gg) - upgraded to Lifetime.
All Donations made to the account will be utilized for marketing the ecosystem here and further enhancing the Bitshares brand amongst gamer demographic.

If you can contribute beyond solely funding - and wish to help in terms of marketing, man-power, server administration or any other role, feel free to message me and I'd be glad to sit down and work along with you.
