General Discussion / Re: OIL. Let's get this asset going.
« on: December 16, 2014, 05:41:39 pm »
IG directed me to check out Nadex as their service is UK only. I spoke with one of the reps at Nadex and you can get access to the market data API for a one time fee of $500, but you also have to apply and associate your identity with them. Not sure if that would work so well for anonymous delegates but it could be one possible source of OIL feeds for public delegates. Of course as the regulatory waters are murky, this could also have some implication w.r.t. the CFTC saying they can regulate crypto derivatives.

Well complaining that DPOS-PTS doesn't honor the social consensus when it is an attempt to upgrade (replace) PTS is pretty dumb IMO. If it did, it wouldn't be serving its stated purpose, which would mean it would be ignored by default.

DPOS-PTS with AGS as a user asset would be fine.

Thanks for your opinion toast. Do you see any legal considerations that would be necessary food for thought for the issuer of UIA AGS? Or a combined token?

Since that thread is locked , I am going to continue the discussion here. I would like to hear what the BitShares team thinks about requiring an airdrop of AGS to PTS to maintain the favor of the community.

I feel that DPOS PTS deserves consideration by the community to give it a pass here but I can see how people would take the opinion that it is a violation of the social consensus.

DPOS PTS is cheaper to maintain and the discussion of moving PTS has been long going, even before the superDAC merger. I don't see why we should tilt the PTS / AGS split in favor of AGS instead of maintaining the current split other than semantics. Moving PTS to DPOS is beneficial for the whole community because it will cost us less to maintain. Of course it will still cost more than killing PTS; but I personally would like to see it live on for future DACs to snapshot. Combining AGS / PTS into one user issued asset and making that the new consensus tool would be my preferred option but I will support DPOS PTS in case that doesn't happen. In some ways DPOS PTS is the simpler upgrade path, because nobody has to step up to be the GENESIS issuer.

What do you think vikram?

good start ... though we still should have at least 2 more sources for a price for OIL ..

Agreed, unfortunately it would seem most of the feeds cost money. I haven't been able to find any freebies. Maybe we could have the DAC subsidize the cost of OIL feeds by allowing 3% delegates to re-register a new 4% delegate, and use the extra 1% to pay for the OIL feed. The problem with that however, is that standby delegates would need to eat the cost of an OIL feed. Maybe we need a specific 100% OIL delegate to transparently pay the other delegates OIL feed prices and also cover the top 50 in standby or something? Not sure the best way to tackle that.

Edit: it would be nice if we could work with quandl and maybe some other sites to give us some kind of bulk buy "delegate" deal on feeds. Unforunately quandl themselves don't have any real time OIL feeds according to the founder:

Is there any real time oil feeds for Brent or WTI? I am involved with a distributed exchange called bitshares and we could really use the data to make oil derivatives happen. Thanks!

Sorry to say, but no real time feeds yet.

IG doesn't let you register outside of the UK. I am going to assume that an API token of some sort is required to pull the feed programmatically; maybe not though since it is a free feed. If not can you pass off some details like the endpoint and some common params? I was going to try to integrate it into alt's price feed script and send a PR.

Can anyone tell if this is the spot/cash price, or a 1 day future, or something else?

They have a free feed.

Looks like the free feed is 15 minutes delayed. Should be good enough to kick off Brent OIL.

How do I activate data feeds on my account?
To activate data feeds:

1.      Log into the trading platform and select My Account

2.      Select Data Feeds

3.      Select the relevant data feed then click Add Data Feeds

If you are activating the NYSE or AMEX exchange feed, you will need to complete the exchange agreement form via the Data Feeds section.

Data feeds on CFD accounts

Adding data feeds allows you to see additional price feeds and volume data for shares. There is a monthly cost for adding a data feed, but we rebate the cost if you place a minimum number of trades per month on that particular exchange.

The Data Feeds section in My Account lists each available exchange, along with the cost of access per month. The Activity column shows the number of trades required to receive a rebate on the cost.

Please note: any new exchange feed you activate will be charged to your account immediately for the current calendar month, and you’ll receive the rebate at the end of the month (if applicable).

If you plan to take a break from trading in an oncoming month we recommend that you deactivate your data feeds before the end of the current month to avoid being charged.

The levels of access available are:

·           No fee: In some cases, we are able to provide free data feeds from alternative exchanges. There is no cost for this access, but it may be delayed by 15 minutes.

·           Level 1: This will enable a live price feed but it won’t provide volume data for all stocks (such as small-cap stocks)

·           Level 2: This will provide a live price, along with volume data from the exchange where applicable. Level 2 access is required to view volume data on our charts, or the orderbook on PureDMA and L2 Dealer.

Data feeds on spread betting accounts

All markets are already enabled, with the exception of Australian and Canadian shares (which can be enabled in the Data Feeds section in My Account).

Nice fast job!
I assume you want your BitUSD sent to onceuponatime?

That's my favourite account  ;D

Awesome! I copied your transcription over to docs for easy reference. I think this material would definitely be wikipedia worthy. Also did some spelling corrections and formatting changes.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1OQ9kKwAvE2z7Px0poCC-4f66avVW17mUitSDr7-fWyQ/edit?usp=sharing

I have made many correction in the two posts above (parts one and two).

I don't know how to use googledocs.

The document has been updated to contain the latest version of your transcript.

Perhaps delegates with servers located in the US had best move them elsewhere.

VPS running delegate.robrigo moved to Singapore. Thanks for the heads up Riverhead!

You can safely move your BTS to a local wallet and be sure that BTER will honor your BTS that was in their control during the snapshot in the form of PLAY when that DAC is launched.

That's pretty much what I needed to know.  Thanks.

Anytime.  ;)

you can redeem your BTS in the BTS client using the private keys that hold BTS
you can redeem your PLAY in the PLAY client (once released) with the private keys that have held BTS at the time of the snapshot

I emailed Bter and they said they can't export user wallets/private keys because they use the same coin wallets for all accounts.  Meaning I can't import my BTS into my client with the PLAY share and I have to have my BTS in my client in order to take advantage of all the coming snapshots.   Atleast that's what I understanding. Likewise, I don't feel safe keeping funds on an exchange. Sorry if I'm aggrivating anyone.

If you held BTS on bter during the snapshot, and you have the BTSPLAY or w/e it's called, that means they will redeem the private keys when PLAY is released and credit your account. You can safely move your BTS to a local wallet and be sure that BTER will honor your BTS that was in their control during the snapshot in the form of PLAY when that DAC is launched.

Going off of what xeroc mentioned, I believe the Key graph functionality is meant to be an on chain graph database:

Quote
In computing, a graph database is a database that uses graph structures for semantic queries with nodes, edges, and properties to represent and store data. A graph database is any storage system that provides index-free adjacency.

I believe toast has been working on some aspects of this functionality over the past few days. Looking at recent github commits there has been work on edge and object records.

Muse/SoundDAC / Re: Bandcamp now competing with music streaming services
« on: December 11, 2014, 06:17:33 am »
Nice find Robrigo.

I disagree with the idea though. You have to give the market what the market wants. And that's full blown access to everything. You just have to figure out a way to make sure he artist isn't screwed over in the process.

What bandcamp is doing is giving you access to just that one artist's stuff for a price. You are paying for access sure, but not to the world's music library. The market isn't asking for that at all.

This is why we will be offering ACCESS to everything. If you really want the files while you are offline then yeah, you can pay the artist for that, sure.

As far as the die hard fans go. The coin/token is where it's at. Those people will be buying those up to access all the VIP perks.

Anyway that's the model we are following so far. After watching a boatload of Gerd Leonhard talks I can safely say PeerTracks is pretty confident we have a winning recipe.

This is all without even going into the curation benefits that stem from the existence of the coin/token too!

I didn't catch that the subscription service isn't across the entire bandcamp platform, but rather on a per artist basis.

You're right; that's totally different and definitely a much less attractive service IMO.

I'm curious what you think about management of credit to contributors on the BTS music chain; care to comment on that too? (Posted here: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=12163.0)

Sounds like an awesome usecase for KeyGraphs ..

TOOOOOAAAAASSSSSTTTT!!!! 8)

Agreed, I wasn't even thinking about that possibility! Edges could define the relationship from public accounts (one for each contributor) to an object (the song). A descriptor could define their role in the creation of the song such as singer, drummer, producer, etc.
