General Discussion / DAS Tools
« on: March 03, 2014, 07:55:28 pm »
I'm making a toolkit for the BTS and larger crypto ecosystem. I'm starting a thread because public expectations are a good commitment strategy.

https://github.com/nmushegian/das

C++ sucks balls for anything other than the core networking/blockchain code and the whole dev setup now scares away newcomes who give up after 30 minutes. Most of the stuff new devs would want to work on are not in the core BTS codebase anyway, they want to quickly and easily interact with the BTS ecosystem.

Ideally Dan will establish a byte-by-byte format for transactions so he can offload building the wallet (misnomer: "transaction maker" - the wallet itself is trivial) onto us. If not there are still a lot of "top-down" software that needs to be written.

This week I plan to deliver:
"das" top-level command routing
"das angel" Angelshare utilities, like a merged btc/pts wallet for holding your AGS and code for looking up snapshot allocations
"das keyring"  <- BASIC "wallet" functionality, like just a named list of ECDSA keys and CLI commands for the basic operations on keys

Today I plan to deliver:
* Hopefully most of this week's goal for das keyring.
* Nicely organized super-easy-to-get-started repository

Important stuff in the future:
* BTS X market maker bot
* BTS DNS auction CLI interface

edit: btw "DAS" is distributed autonomous service/system... More friendly and more general that DAC in my opinion.

General Discussion / more naming issues

We need to make it clear that "BitUSD" only exists on a *specific* BTS X chain, so I propose start saying things like "XT-USD" for when we also have "XC-USD" or "XI-USD". Like "XC-USD has a larger margin requirement but doesn't pay interest".

Keyhotee / Hello Invictus! Please respond!
« on: February 28, 2014, 02:35:05 pm »
I've brought this up to both Dans but haven't heard meaningful responses...

Your Keyhotee master private key does not depend on all of the forms in the profile wizard! This a critical error and all founders would have to re-register, right? Please just tell me I'm misreading the code?

https://github.com/InvictusInnovations/keyhotee/blob/master/profile_wizard/ProfileWizard.cpp#L269

I don't see where create_profile is defined but its conf argument is defined on the stack and so we know all the fields that got set.
Looks like first name, middle name, last name, and brain key are the only things that count. SS, passport, DOB... none of those things contribute to security.

No, that was a bug that we didn't catch.

BitShares X with Dynamic Parameters

dan has mentioned a prediction market for interest rates. I thought we might collect some more ideas about what other parameters could be made dynamic.

* interest rates
* number of assets
* WHICH assets (to reduce # the bank has to buy back all assets of removed type)
* max block size
* tx fees
* arbitrary asset hierarchy parameters (like, interest rate on interest rate on block size)
* interdependent/partially-self-referential asset derivatives with feedback for self-aware/conscious DACs (not really)

come on let's hear some

General Discussion / DAC concept spotted in the wild

Is this one of you guys?
http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1ycqbs/this_is_tripping_me_out/

The comments make it seem like people aren't seeing bitcoin as a DAC... should we jump in? No need to mention bts ever

(by the way, we should have a marketing/outreach subforum)

to register a domain your domain's "worth" has to beat a certain growth curve up to a certain point (simplest case: if your domain does not trade at X at time T you lose your collateral)

you would not expect google to trade at a high price unless google comes in to actually buy it up and then you can expect it to trade at a very high price. so lots of space for shorts to push the price down to 0 (de-register the domain) unless the market decides *this* is the T time units in which google will want to buy rights to the name

so the squatter problem is replaced with a more sophisticated domain registration ninja-ing
