Technical Support / Re: "Check for new update" No update found?
« on: December 09, 2014, 11:56:33 pm »
that button is for GUI updates only . just minor changes ..
you need to download the new BINARY ...

as we are in alpha mode .. this menu entry is "wrongly" named ..
later on .. there shouldn't be any major update in the core client .. but only in the UI (that's what the button is for)

Okay. So how do I update my current GUI client?

Technical Support / "Check for new update" No update found?
« on: December 09, 2014, 11:48:16 pm »
Why is the check for new update not working? I have an old version and it is not recognizing the update.

I compiled the latest version of the BTS client on my linux mint OS (live usb). After I started the program, it crashed and gave me a corrupt database error and the client wanted me to reset and reinstall the database which I clicked. Then it opened the client and now it has been stuck at the "Finished Connecting. Launching Bitshares" stage for the last 20 minutes.

Is this a known issue?

General Discussion / Re: Thunderclap Campaign #2 - Headline Poll
« on: December 09, 2014, 09:17:19 pm »
I'll admit I have no idea what a "Thunderclap" is, but I recommend sticking to a narrow target of cryptocurrency enthusiasts.

The way I see it, if you try marketing to the wider public, only two things can happen:
  • The campaign will fail to bring profitable conversion, in which case it was a waste of money and time.
  • The campaign will be profitable, in which case you'll need massive funds to rapidly scale it up
So best to leave it to the guys with hundreds of thousands in marketing budget.
Thunderclap is a service that facilitates a coordinated post to social media from all of the accounts that opt in.

Instead of paying thunderclap why not just have everyone here post on social media? I am not sure whether using a paid service is a good use for our marketing funds.

I blv chinese are accumulating should rise near release time

Actually I think the Chinese are probably the dumpers.  The dumps never happen during the midday US time, they only happen while china is awake.

We just have to keep buying every paycheck.  Just keep buying as much as we an for as long as we get the chance.
Just put buy orders under the price and wait for the dumpers to dump you cheap shares.  It will happen every time if you wait.

Does seem like they have hundreds of millions to dump over last few months.. but some are buying too.. others playing the spread game... in general market is waiting for news.. chinese have ability to pump to moon like noone else.

There seems to be millions of shares that are dumped on the market every day. Dumping is good for Bitshares in the long term as the shares are distributed to more holders

What happens when a delegate misses a block? Do those transactions get stuck in limbo?

General Discussion / Re: The Bitshares SUPERbull thread
« on: December 09, 2014, 02:34:31 pm »
Lol everytime the price jumps up like that, I wish I had sold some and waited...but I know, I just f'ing know that the one time I decide to take the plunge and sell some the bull rally will start without me and I'll end up buying back at a premium.

Trading drives me bonkers. I don't know how people can do it without going mad. Sticking to my hold strategy...for now.  :P

Good call btw lil_jay. Spot on.

Yeah it is really hard to time a bottom. Although in a few years I honestly believe that this thread will feel so stupid. Just like the speculation threads on bitcointalk arguing about whether you should buy bitcoin at $0.20 or wait till a drop to $0.15 :D now bitcoin is $400 ish and it really doesn't matter whether you paid $0.05 more.

The trick for early adopters of bitcoin was being a strong hand to see it all the way though and not cashing out a long the way. You would have had to hold through the price jumps of $1, $5, $10, $50....

Stay strong and hold for the next few years!

I managed to dump a couple btc worth right after the snapshot and buy most of them back, making a couple thousand free BTS.  (Or at least, I will once I manage to finish buying the rest of them back under 4400).

Someone please sell just a few more! :P

Edit: Success!!

Nice. I should have done that.

Snapshot time has passed, correct?
(And also this is why BTS just dropped about 10%).

Yep.

Technical Support / Re: Bitshares hotfix terminal build?
« on: December 08, 2014, 11:07:37 pm »
Can I build the new bitshares update in linux terminal yet?

Using these commands?
https://github.com/BitShares/bitshares/blob/master/BUILD_UBUNTU.md

If you checkout the proper tag (v0.4.24.1) you are good to go.

Bytemaster what do you mean? What command line would I need to change to get the updated version?
