General Discussion / Re: Hyperledger Contributions

If they address privacy issue properly, their blockchain will be the king.

No not really. Just because big corporate names are behind it that doesn't mean it's a good architecture.

Well there you go. Blocktrades will probably be the first real test case.

I know that the marketing firm Farlaweb, as well as the magazine Forklog, have both issued stock using NXT. Wondering if any organizations have done the same within Bitshares? Thanks for any resources and/or instructions on how to better determine the answer from within Graphene -- I'm doing research for an episode of The Daily Decrypt.

So far no company has issued an actual stock on the blockchain. Obits isn't a stock and is called a token of appreciation. You don't get actual equity in any legally recognized way as far as I know unless the SEC considers it a security.

There was a company that wanted to set up something called Gemspace to allow real stock trading but that never happened. There is also DACX which deals with real stock.

Max Wright has not posted since October 2015 and seems to have abandoned Bitshares.
Also what is the adoption rate and growth statistics for Bitshares which indicates success or failure of the referral program?

We will soon have micropayments? We can do better than Cloud Factory with community support:

We need a worker proposal and crowdsale. Who would like to initiate this?

Code exists which can be adapted, demand is growing and going viral will be easy. It introduces people to Bitshares and crypto who really need it. It is global or potential to be.

The code is here: https://github.com/crowdresearch/crowdsource-platform/tree/develop2/crowdsourcing

There is a possible synergy between Sharebits, EarnBitshares (which we could call EarnBits), and Curiosume. People earn, then they share. People earn, then they trade.

which UI is the best?
Check out Discourse. SAFE Network forum uses it and it's the best forum out.

I'm little sick of this kind of practice...

BM said the upgrade will be Thursday only in mumble. NO pre-announcement.

Theoretical post update Tuesday. NO announcement on forum or via email.

The devs should realize that Github notification is not an announcement. We need more formal and official one, to become a successful platform.

We are in the process of notifying exchanges and posting the update in the appropriate threads.  We cannot broadcast on all channels at the same time.  Also, it is helpful to have witnesses verify the code before we notify exchanges.

That makes sense. I maybe over sensitive, but we should notify all types of customers, not only exchanges, so that we need more specific channel IMHO.

- stealth coming
- fee backed assets coming
- tonyk's proposal about BTS being a share instead of a currecny
- 0-fee transfer proposal

And I guess some more people that used to be part of this community are regaining optimism.

I think new people are joining the crypto community through Ethereum and just now finding out about Altcoins like Bitshares and SAFE Network.

General Discussion / Re: Ethereum price discussion

@luckybit and others I never owned a single eth because I don't understand its purpose but can you please explain me in 5 lines why ethereum should be worth $1 bil and what it can do that bitshares can't do and why bitshares shouldn't be worth equally? What are the differences and why eth is so superior?

I just don't get all this ethereum madness and I don't get it why people dump bts at these levels.
Please explain.
Thanks

Ethereum can do smart contracts and most importantly it can do computation markets. You can't do computation markets on Bitshares right now. The biggest advantage of Ethereum is it's developer friendly,

General Discussion / Re: IRC/telegram as a trollbox?
« on: February 11, 2016, 10:08:41 pm »
I believe what we're talking about here is not about redesigning the forum but just add a simple trollbox to OpenLedger, doesn't matter if it's ugly, as long as it fills its purpose. We can make it pretty or choose another one better in the future. It only needs to work atm.

I really think it would help bring more people in and it's always useful.

What is taking so long?

I don't know. @svk was working on it, however I don't know where it stands on his priority list. Still, I believe we will have it sooner or later. At least, I really hope so. The idea can be pretty simple but I believe it can have a pretty positive result.

I'm the one who initiated all of this months ago by asking for a trollbox. It is essential to the success of any exchange. The social element is essential.

We could expand it a little further too.  I changed the memo key of Twitter.puppies to the same key as announce.  We could have the wallet show all transfers to any account that has that same memo key.  This way we can send messages directly to  others but still have them in our troll box.  We could automate the creation of accounts with that memo key,  and automatically create transfers from that account when typing in the troll box.  This allows responding like most other trollboxes.  Then we just need a way to ignore users.

What if I want to ignore all users who don't have beyond a certain amount of value trading on the OpenLedger exchange?

What if I want the script to say, if below x value held amount then ignore all posts?

OpenLedger should copy MCXNow exactly. In MCXNow you couldn't post unlimited if you didn't have beyond a certain value threshold held at the exchange. Do exactly the same for OpenLedger.

Anyone who either pays a fee or buys some trollbox tokens should be able to send unlimited messages and access all the best features. Everyone else should get 5 posts per hour and no more. If you're a frequent chatter then you'll buy the trollbox tokens to have unlimited posts.

This would discourage spam and monetize the box. It would also be very easy to implement. You could label it "basic", "premium". Or you could label it "bronze", "silver", "gold", "platinum", or whatever you want. The more a person holds in terms of value on OpenLedger the higher their membership rank should scale, the more features they can access.

Having to pay a BTS fee to post in the trollbox is a non starter - it has to be offchain.

However it would be beneficial to login to the trollbox using a blockchain registered username.

But lets just get something quickly working in the wallet first.

It's it's cheap enough that it is like 0.001BTS then it's fine. But the way to do it is like how MCXNow did it.

Their trollbox was free but only for a certain amount of posts per hour. So give the user a certain amount of free posts in an hour and if they don't make any trades or don't pay the fee then they have to deal with the rate limit. The people who trade or who pay the fee don't have rate limits.

This way people don't feel like they are paying. They get some free posts.
