BitShares PTS / Re: Could somebody ELI5?
« on: November 06, 2014, 08:57:26 pm »
Whats going on, are Bitshares-PTS worthless now? I havent been able to keep up much and this stuff is confusing enough for me o_O. I've read up a little and I see that PTS holders wont recieve 10% of future DACS anymore, is there a new one that will replace PTS or what?

Nothing has changed about PTS.
Works the same way as always.

The PTS network has not produced a block in over 12 hours; so you can't possibly say that PTS "works" in any way whatsoever. What you mean is that PTS plays the same role in our community as always in terms of sharedropping and whatnot, but as a crypto-equity, PTS does not appear to "work."

Send transactions on the PTS network at your own risk.

Nobody knows. There's a community over at http://pts.cubeconnex.com/ that is upgrading PTS, and they will snapshot the current version of PTS. The question we don't know the answer to is whether they'll use the snapshot from yesterday (November 5, 2014) or whether they'll take a new snapshot. The PTS network has almost completely stopped operating, which means that if you try to send PTS from your wallet, it's possible they will never arrive at their destination.

This is a rumor that has been circulating, but as far as I can tell, it's not currently true. (I say "currently" because all these things are subject to the whims of the community consensus) It looks to me that PTS (hopefully the upgraded version) will probably continue to have DACs sharedropped on it. See forum post by Stan here: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=11063.msg145649#msg145649

It was a blatant violation of the social contract. PTS holders are no longer entitled to 10% of future DACs. Can't expect people to just let that go. I agree with the change it was necessary, but it did affect some folks, it will leave a scar regardless.

Why do you people keep harping on this? Read Stan's and toadt's replies, then note that PLAY and RandPaulCoin are both honoring the November 5 snapshot.

Ok I'm back... go for it whenever :)

I'm pretty sure the buying on Bter is mostly arbitrage bots. Some exchanges (like Cryptsy) still have very high prices, so a naive arbitrage bot could be buying up all the cheap PTS in order to sell it on the expensive exchanges.

Sure, investors can buy and sell whenever they want to .. and I dare tell them they are doing wrong .. do what ever you like .. I am not a trader nor a big investor ..

I just wanted to make clear that those expecting BTS from their BTSX do not sell their stake because they thought BTSX has been snapshotted .. and they can get rid of them ..
That's just not the case.

well , no need to be worried ...because people aren't that stupid yet .... most exchanges gave out a detail plan telling people "BTSX will not be affected after snapshot" , so I'm just saying today's price movement just another issue .

Although one thing did seem odd is that PTS is not dropping ....

I was watching PTS on Bter and I'm 99% sure that someone forgot to turn their arbitrage bot off. I'd sell 10 PTS into the top bid, and 15 seconds later there would be a new bid waiting for me at the same price. I gratefully thank whoever it was that donated so much BTC to me in this way! Hopefully this will be a cautionary tale to all those who run bots.

I take some :)

I'd totally buy your short except now I'll be away from my computer for the next 14 hours or so. Maybe the price feed will still be in my favour tomorrow morning...

General Discussion / Re: BitUSD is failing HARD
« on: November 05, 2014, 08:57:50 pm »
So is it cheaper to buy bitUSD on bter or btsx?

If you want to buy in a short timeframe, BTSX is better because of higher liquidity (tighter spreads). If you can afford to wait, Bter is better because of lower liquidity: since the spread is so wide and the markets are so thin on Bter, if you wait long enough you might get an opportunity to pay only 61 cents for a bitUSD, like the OP pointed out. :)

I'm looking to buy about 0.1 bitGLD at the feed price, but there are no shorts. Place a short and I'll buy it!

BTSX doesn't have a vesting period but if you leave it on an exchange you're trusting them to, "Do the right thing".

I take it those holding BitUSD are missing out on the airdrop ?

Your bitUSD will simply carry over to the new BTS.

I haven't heard of any other airdrop outside of PLAY.  Post here if you do.

I was thinking of dumping my PTS after the today's snapshot, but the fact that it take hours to get confirmed, it may not be worth it.  The price will likely be down so much by then.  I expect a small dump on BTSX as well.

Why are you expecting a BTSX dump? I was expecting that BTSX would become BTS seamlessly so there would be no reason to dump.

The only other thing I know of that could factor into PTS's value is alphaBar's DPOS-PTS that he's been talking about.

If I remember correctly PLAY will use the PTS snapshot.

Yeah, that's what I'm getting from HackFisher's post.

Looks like PLAY is going to snapshot w/ PTS on Nov 5.

Thanks for the cross post! I never would have known this otherwise. I'm not real excited that they gave such short notice on that, but whatever. Now I have to figure out whether I want to get PLAY from my PTS...
