Nothing wrong with going on a vision quest if that's what you're into.  8)

So, peertracks will be using various techs for its backend. Does this reduce the significance of the "so called" bitshare music blockchain?
Will Notes be the only "reserve currency" backing the whole system peertracks is building?
Overall, if peertracks proves to be a huge success in the future, will Notes achieve an increase in value of the same magnitude or less? I mean, people will mainly be interacting with peertrack website and frontend, how could that increase the value of Notes?

Notes are the collateral for the bitassets on their chain, so noteUSD will be used for the artistcoin buyback / burn mechanism. Thus NOTEs should increase in value because of that. Also I think the NOTEs will be able to be used to pay for your subscription to the PeerTracks service.

As far as I know, their service depends on an on ramp type service to go from credit card transactions on PeerTracks to noteUSD on the chain.

Never.

And the now that the PTS/DNS hiolders can redeem and dump BTS, those who hate bitshares now can dump it down to nothing.

Time to buy DOGE now before coinbase adds it on their new exchange. :P

BTC goes up == BTS goes up historically right? So why would BTC rallying up for coinbase news be bad for BTS other than the fact that BTS likely won't be on their exchange out of the gate?

To me this just screams of "short bitUSD" but that's because I want to make money AND support BTS.  8)

Based the hangout people and the active members of this forum, just my guess. I would say it's below 1000users. Active users numbers, I mean who do transactions and wallet market orders, is even less.

OMG  :'(

I wouldn't be too sad about it. Do what you can within your own means to bring more early adopters to BitShares. Quality > Quantity. Blockchain technologies are nowhere near mainstream use yet. Our little "tribes" will be dwarfed by the coming tide of users over the next few years...

Absolutely, how about Max Wright for BitShares Decentralized Exchange?

That would work out well with promoting the 101 book. We'll have to catch up with Max and see if he has the bandwidth / interest. I think that Stan would make a good speaker too, considering his ability to spin a yarn that's fun to read and informative.

What do I need to do? Do I just get people to attend the event or is there a page I can send them to for our booth?

Attending the event would be key. BitShares has a featured speaker slot available if a developer or community member wants to go to bat at the conference. 15 minute long video. Worse case I can do it, but it would have more cred coming from a core dev / founder. I also plan to reach out to the other DAC teams (Music / Play) to see if they would be interested in a 15 minute slot; the organizer is open to interesting topics and I think having 3 speakers from "powered by BitShares" projects would be a solid move.

Stellar?

Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk

If it's any alt project this one would make the most sense with the announcement theme. Does Coinbase have any ties to Ripple?

Maybe they are pulling a Xapo and putting BTC wallets in space... i.e. their "Vault" functionality would be based on satellite harbored wallets.

My stab in the dark is that they are integrating with bitshares as a gateway. I personally don't think they are adding LTC but who knows. What value would it bring to their platform? All I can think of is more fees collected via LTC traders using Coinbase.

*waits for BTS price to rise 30%*

General Discussion / Re: Up to 27 100% delegates. Really?

http://bitsharesblocks.com/charts/supply

"Total Supply of BTS" graph. It's interesting to watch the slope of that graph naturally increase over time as more paid delegates come on board. We definitely need to keep the downward pressure high to mitigate these effects, looks like it has been a wash so far. Will it stay below the January 1st high as more users join and use the network? Stay tuned.

General Discussion / Re: Convincing a Bitcoin exchange to add BitShares
« on: January 24, 2015, 09:56:14 pm »
I met the head of a UK Bitcoin exchange today and I started talking about how BitShares is something of long term value, because its a profitable business model implemented on a blockchain that will eventually reward its shareholders with dividends instead of inflation etc etc. He said long term value is a must-have for him to consider adding it.

I think I made a good case today, and he's a really cool guy so Im about to write an email to propose helping out with becoming a gateway, but I was just wondering first:

-Is issuing a gateway IOU inside BTS as profitable for an exchange as just charging the usual 1% fee on every trade made internally?
-Would it be an easier sell to just ask them to trade BTS on their own exchange first? Then they can charge more fees.
-I was thinking of sending a link to this BTS TV episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtCVRIwcBYU Good idea?

Feel free to suggest any other links.

Some benefits of being a gateway:

- Build more trust in clientele because they can follow the IOU on the blockchain.
- Ability to market themselves as the first bitshares gateway to implement fiat (if they are a fiat <=> crypto exchange).
- Less overall risk because centralized servers aren't holding all of the private keys, users are.

Cons:

- Fees are presumably less for gateways, because the orderbook fees are relegated to the blockchain. If they offer a fiat onramp they could be charging fees between fiat and crypto though, like Coinbase or Circle.

To answer your question, I think a gateway is much more valuable then just listing BTS. But having them list BTS could still be a minor win. Get them to start slow and then in the future they could evolve into a gateway. Which exchange is it if you don't mind?

Good music, I think it would really make the mumble sessions "pop" to have an upbeat intro / outro.

Yep. Unfortunately im done paying out of pocket to improve these things so it is time for the community we have served to start helping me pay those bills.  If you havent voted for the delegate, rob, please consider doing so :)

You've already got my vote fuz. The mumble sessions are very useful.

You're close! Position 103. I bet you could get the extra boost you need from publishing some feeds and your client version number.  8)

It was good to chat briefly on the mumble session, and hear about your vision.

I am a huge advocate of open source hardware and it seems incredible to have allies such as you in the field!

I have been following the work at Studio Kosagi: http://www.kosagi.com/  The Novena laptop in particular, quite a feat.  I'm sure you must be familiar... another talented crew to collaborate with.

Everything else has mostly been said.  I agree with fuzz that the importance of building a foundation on open hardware is key to our long term survival, and I see it as a huge priority.

And this...

The possibilities are endless once you're willing to commit code to metal.

Let's explore those possibilities!

Novena is awesome! Just going to drop this here: http://www.bunniestudios.com/

Maybe we can get bunnie to colab on this? I have no contacts personally just like to read about OS hardware stuff once in a while.  8)

Agreed on the ability to hold any market issued BitAsset or UIA on the device.

Also the ability to vote with BTS stored on the device (cold storage voting should be in v0.6.0) would be great.

Uh, I think I am using your forum for its intended purpose:

Collaboration.

Your forum code-- the software running the forum-- it basically sucks.  Sorry, but that's the bottom line.

I'm totally not trying to rag on the community here, though-- community is killer!

If you want to see where Bitsapphire (current team that took over maintenance of the forums) is at with the forum replacement, I would reach out to them in email. They post here occasionally.

Last I heard, they were building a custom solution to keep the SMF forum and a new discourse forum in sync with each other so anyone could use either forum and not miss a beat. This was months ago though.
