hmm, yeah kinda. it doesn't say that it exists yet, but it probably wouldn't be that hard. it's a shopping cart in a sense (something i am VERY familiar with) and once all products have been scanned in then the Checker just selects how the customer wants to pay.

cash, credit or crypto? :)

I love ShapeShift. Love it.

But, I'm saying that we need one piece of open source software that can be downloaded to any tablet turning it into a cash register (kasse in deutsch).
This Checkout will be able to accept any currency, or form thereof.

Something similar to this, but much more full featured:

General Discussion / Re: The BitShares Online Web Wallet is ready...

What is exactly the use case of the web wallet?
Regarding security, this seems catastrophically risky. The browser is an insecure environment [1], and hacking a server is common once money is involved, as illustrated multiple times with exchanges.

I agree with these concerns. The use of the web wallet seems to me less about serious trading/holding funds and more as an easy way for people to learn about the exchange and get interested.

I agree too. I wish everything was web based and lightweight. I hate downloading apps. BUT, until we are sure where the content is being served up from, we are risking quite a bit by going web based right now.

Storj [Driveshare] could be a great solution to this. The js that gets distributed to the clients needs to be served up in shards via multiple trusted nodes. NO SERVERS. Even the domain itself needs to be decentralized via .p2p .bit .dac whatever.

I thought DACs are impossible without Smart Contracts. Do BitShares have Smart Contracts already?

Great question - anyone?

Right now, Bitpay is the predominant POS software for merchants.
If a merchant decides to accept bitcoin, they usually choose Bitpay.

I'd like to see an app that allows the merchant to accept ANY cryptocurrency.
Bitshares is the perfect choice here, no? But how?

If I go to a store and I feel like paying with litecoin, they should accept it. The money goes right into their Bitshares or bitAsset account.
Same thing goes for bitSilver, darkcoin, namecoin, whatever.

The only thing the Checkout should consist of is the large tablet, card swipe/nfc module, the handheld barcode scanner with mount, small printer for customers who request a receipt and a cash drawer.

Is anyone working on an expanded POS app for that yet?

My 3 year old daughter knows more about circuit boards than any low voltage tech I have ever met.  She knows more about coding in javascript than most first year cs majors.

Ya know, I'd like to also mention here that to teach crypto is quite simple..
Take your bitcoin-curious female friend out for lunch. If she drives, you buy.
Tell her that you'll show her in about 5min how easy bitcoin is to use. (this assumes the cafe accepts bitcoin)
She installs mycelium, you send her some bitcoin, she pays for lunch. Send her another couple bucks worth of bitcoin on the drive home for the gas.
When you get home, show her how to do a backup, use coinality, do some online shopping, etc.
Planting seeds is fun, no? :)

Peace thru Crypto

I live in Munich. There's tons of crypto people in this city. TONS.
Europeans are not happy about that "EUR" label though. In fact, almost every native German I know would prefer precious metals, the return of the deutschmark or crypto. Not one is in favor of the Euro, not one. So, bitEUR will probably never be popular here. bitSilver hell yes. bitGold oh yeah. bitANYTHING before bitFiats.

ICANN won't be runnin the show much longer with .p2p and .bit tld's going mainstream.
Bitshares.org is closer to what the dac is anyway, come to think of it, .dac would be perfect for Bitshares.

Hmmm, bitshares.dac - perfect!

That tld doesn't seem to exist with icann/iana yet either:

I'll get meshnet and distributed computing to everyone, Dan and Delegates get decentralized dns and unrestricted trade to everyone...
Hmm, I see true human freedom coming to us very soon :)

My accountant has always advised me to invest 4-40% of whatever money you receive into yourself first. Spend money on things that will make you money (like bitSilver), retire financially as soon as possible, treat investing like it's a bill that has to be paid or else and get a copy of the Cashflow 101 boardgame from robert kiyosaki. Well worth it, wish i had that passive income advice decades ago. Ive gone from homeless to beemers to everything in between, so don't sweat it, we all hit bottom at least once. If all you can invest right now is $2, so be it. Get some bitassets, get some crypto coins and just keep buying. A dollar here, 2 there, 5 next week and so on. Do local trades too, you've got lotsa friends here in the crypto space @MedTorgenstein :)
