Upgrading the RAM on my 2011 iMAC from 4GB as syncing the block-chain keeps stopping half way through on latest client versions. Would 8GB or 16GB be recommended?

I'm quite happy with my 8GB RAM running linux debian.
3d generation average i3 intel CPU. It does take more than an hour to compiling the client or synchronizing the blockchain.

Light client will minimize the need for additional RAM in the not so distant future, so 8GB should be more than sufficient, but 16GB is just awesome all around right?

my delegate is running on 2GB RAM .. though it is synced 24/7 .. don't have to sync the whole blockchain too often :)
