Could it be due to a general expectation for USD to collapse in the near future.  Should a devaluation occur, it would be rather awkward for anyone with a significant bitusd position.

Probably more sensible to hold bitgold, bitsilver and their ilk....

Yeah.. have you looked at these markets?;)

If you thought BTS:BitUSD was unfair..

If bitUSD is at a premium, there is no way merchants can sustainably sell products at face value (i.e. for equal quantity of bitUSD or USD), and get the benefit of selling bitUSD at a premium. Consumers would quickly learn to convert their premium bitUSD to USD before their purchase and use that instead.

The behaviour the market would adopt would be to therefore price goods at a discount when bitUSD is being used instead of USD. This is no net benefit to consumers or merchants. But it makes life more difficult for both because the premium is likely to fluctuate considerably.

I agree there are benefits to owning and using crypto-USD rather than real USD. However my current view is that I would prefer parity, and to reflect the difference in attractiveness in a lower rate of return on the bitUSD compared to a real USD. In practice this would be reflected in lower acceptable yields in the yield/deposit/bond market, or some other form of relative cost leakage over time.

Yes I agree.  I think that will happen.

How about Poloniex?

Has this been discussed before? Surely it must have.

Was/is anyone working on cooperating with exchanges to implement the pairs?

I really think the direct debit idea would be extremely welcomed.

BitAssets are in a unique position to perform this service and as far as I know no other crypto project supports direct debits.

It's simply a much better match than bitcoin for the job. Imagine the publicity....

I'm getting tired of the spam subject "Why I am afraid that the price of BTS is rising" which looks horrible in the "most recent posts" summary of the forum.  None of us should be afraid of a rising BTS price. That's what most of us want to see isn't it?

Just because it 'makes you tired' and/or you disagree with it, doesn't make it spam.

Higher priced BTS may be what most of us want, but unless the new higher price is reached with sound fundamentals, then people are only setting themselves up for disappointment.

It does matter why the price gets higher. Personally I don't think it's sound that in 4 days the price jumps by roughly +130%, if you do I have some wonderful beachside property you may be interested in ..

I'd be interested to know if anyone can predict what they think BTS might be by the end of September 2015

Last week nobody could predict the absurd rise this week, and you want forecasts for September?

Other than 'To the moon!' I don't have any prediction to offer. I think if the GUI is stabilized, mobile wallet hits stable release, BItAssets remain viable, documentation is updated and people can buy/sell things easily with BitAssets, then it seems logical that the price will rise.

Either way BitShares is worth much more than $16mil, that's for sure.

But for now? Why would it rise like this? I'd be very surprised if you can buy stuff with BitAssets in more than 10 shops.
It's basically an instrument for speculation, and even before hitting the 'normal people' (which it only will do when shops regularly accept bitassets, buying bitassets/bts is simpler, and the gui is stabilized - and even then, no guarantees!) we should stop to consider than even inside the cutting edge that is being in the cryptocurrency scene, few users of other coins use BitAssets as a hedge against fluctuations in their currency.

For instance, it would make much more sense IMO for bitpay (random example) to allow transfering incoming btc payments to a bitshares account with bitusd.

Either people don't believe bitassets can truly preserve wealth (to extent that the underlying asset does) or we have some heavy marketing to do in that department. For even without mainstream adoption the opportunities are already so many..

Technical Support / Re: Bitshares Multisig Usage

BM has said that Multi-sig features and related documentation will be released at the start of June in the upcoming announcements

Wonderful news!

Why is VTC up 500%

Bulls on methamphetamine.

864
No surprise.

But yeah, fucked up.

It just doesn't make sense that it has to be either one of those two options. Of course, I might be wrong and that could happen. In crypto everything can happen, but it just isn't something I would ever base my predictions on.

If it takes off, it will necessarily have to have a market cap >$200mil.

I believe we need, once the client & the new ideas/changes are implemented and stabilized, to go full throttle on having BitAssets accepted as means of payment in as many areas as possible.

The other side of the coin is having easier ways for people to jump onboard. Do we have any USD/BitUSD onramps ? CNY/BitCNY ? (only bter?) Where you just make a bank transfer and voila.

Is it possible now to buy BitAssets or BTS with a credit card?

Normal users won't be (and shouldn't be required to) jump through bitcoin to reach us.

The concept looks solid, we just need to make it real easy for everyday users to use the system, and advertise this alternative.
Stuff like that infographic that surfaced some days ago is exactly the stuff we need.

The only reason not to buy BitUSD at more than 1.00 is the name.... call it a USD correlated asset and it works fine.

But that was the big premise! 1 BitUSD = 1 USD +- 1%

I think most people will care about:

Is it worth 1 USD (will it preserve its value)?
and
Will it give me some interest?

Would be pretty interesting if this is part of the upcoming announcements.. :o

This is all old news anyway, soon BitShares will be using less RAM than your web browser.

Really BM, now you mention it? I literally bought 8GB of RAM to be able to run the bitshares client without killing a few programs & swapping madly.

Seriously.
